VOYAH Zhuiguang EV

2026-09-28 07:50:00

The VOYAH Zhuiguang (VOYAH Light) is the inaugural saloon introduced by Dongfeng Motor's premium new energy vehicle (NEV) marque, VOYAH. It serves as the culmination of the brand's "three categories in three years" strategic roadmap spanning SUVs, MPVs, and saloons. Positioned as an executive luxury intelligent electric saloon, the Zhuiguang officially debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023, built upon VOYAH's proprietary ESSA native intelligent electric architecture. For the 2024 model year, the lineup retained the battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant while introducing plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options to establish a dual-powertrain product offensive. As of June 2026, the 2024 VOYAH Zhuiguang EV remains on sale, with recommended retail prices ranging from approximately RM279,900 to RM309,900 depending on the variant. As VOYAH's debut saloon, the Zhuiguang EV shoulders the vital mission of driving brand elevation and directly taking on tier-one luxury electric saloons.

Design Language

The VOYAH Zhuiguang EV adopts the "Aesthetics of Light" design philosophy, revolving around dynamic light and shadow interplay to deliver a seamless blend of high-tech flair and sophisticated poise. Up front, it features a fully enclosed grille flanked by slim, sharp LED headlamp clusters linked by a full-width light bar, anchored by an illuminated wing-spread brand emblem for a striking visual identity. In profile, a flowing, upswept character line complements a sleek fastback silhouette alongside flush pop-out door handles, yielding a class-leading drag coefficient of just 0.225 Cd. In terms of exterior dimensions, the saloon measures 5,088 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase aligning with mainstream executive segment benchmarks. At the rear, full-width LED tail lights with an illuminated VOYAH script emblem ensure commanding night-time presence. Inside, the Zhuiguang EV showcases a wraparound cockpit trimmed in premium leather with diamond-pattern stitching across the seats and dashboard, accented by metallic garnishes and multi-colour ambient lighting. The EV variant features a rotary drive selector on the centre console, exuding a clean yet opulent ambience.

Powertrain and Performance

The VOYAH Zhuiguang EV range is powered exclusively by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup comprising permanent magnet synchronous motors. The 2023 model year delivered a combined system output of 290 kW and 670 Nm of torque. For the 2024 model year, the rear motor delivers a maximum output of 200 kW and 310 Nm of peak torque, propelling the saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds towards a top speed of 171 km/h. Notably, the powertrain delivery of the 2024 Zhuiguang EV is calibrated more conservatively for an AWD setup, prioritising cruising efficiency and range over outright explosive pace. Range-wise, the 2024 model is fitted with a 75.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, providing a CLTC-rated electric driving range of up to 610 km. The battery also supports DC fast charging, replenishing from 30% to 80% state of charge in roughly 0.27 hours (around 16 minutes).

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the VOYAH Zhuiguang EV features an electric AWD layout paired with an all-independent suspension setup comprising double wishbones up front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. Widely favoured in high-end electric vehicles, the front double wishbones effectively mitigate body roll during enthusiastic cornering, while the five-link rear axle delivers superior road bump absorption, balancing handling precision with supple ride comfort. Adaptive air suspension comes standard across the entire range with selectable damping firmness. Higher-spec variants further gain active rear-wheel steering with a maximum articulation angle of 3.5 degrees, significantly tightening the turning circle to enhance low-speed agility during U-turns and tight parking manoeuvres in town. The synergy between the air suspension and rear-wheel steering ensures this 5-metre-long executive saloon remains remarkably nimble and easy to pilot in confined urban environments.

Cabin and Equipment

The interior highlight of the VOYAH Zhuiguang EV is its standout multi-screen infotainment interface, boasting a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated 12.3-inch front passenger entertainment display as standard. This is augmented by a 7-inch auxiliary touchscreen embedded within the rear centre armrest, forming an integrated four-screen interactive ecosystem. The entire lineup is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset running on the Huawei HarmonySpace intelligent operating system. Seat comfort is paramount, featuring heating, ventilation, and massage functions for both front and rear rows, along with electrically adjustable rear seats. Cabin amenities include four-zone automatic climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, an onboard fragrance dispenser, an air purifier, and a PM2.5 filtration system. An audiophile-grade Dynaudio sound system with over 10 speakers is fitted as standard, complemented by practical everyday conveniences such as wireless smartphone charging pads and a powered tailgate.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

In terms of active safety and driver assistance, the VOYAH Zhuiguang EV is equipped with the brand's proprietary VOYAH VPILOT system. The hardware suite incorporates 27 perception sensors, comprising 5 millimetre-wave radars, 10 exterior surround cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. It provides Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability with over-the-air (OTA) upgrade readiness for Level 3 functionalities where hardware permits. Key ADAS features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), a 540-degree panoramic camera system with a transparent chassis view, and Automated Parking Assist (APA). The 2024 model year further expands its capability with Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) for highway driving—supporting automated ramp entry and exit, overtaking, and lane changing—along with Remote Parking Assist (RPA) and Memory Parking Assist (VPA), the latter capable of learning fixed parking routes to park autonomously. On the active safety front, the 2024 Zhuiguang EV adds a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) for fatigue alerts and an in-cabin occupant detection sensor.

Market Performance and Verdict

Since its market introduction, the VOYAH Zhuiguang has struggled to make significant inroads into mainstream sales charts. Throughout 2025, cumulative sales for the Zhuiguang range (combining BEV and PHEV variants) stood at around 12,000 units, averaging under 1,000 deliveries a month. Moving into 2026, the saloon registered only 383 units across the first two months (121 units in January, 262 units in February). The Zhuiguang has nevertheless earned praise from owners and automotive journalists alike for its pliant chassis dynamics, generous standard kit, and plush cabin materials. In particular, standard-fit air suspension and executive-grade comfort features lend it solid value-for-money appeal. However, as an NEV brand under a state-owned enterprise, VOYAH still contends with a brand awareness deficit against established EV powerhouses such as NIO and Li Auto. On the technological front, while the subsequent Zhuiguang L received substantial intelligence upgrades via the Huawei Qiankun ADS driver assistance suite and HarmonySpace cockpit, the pure electric version shows a slight generational gap in software and computing prowess against fresh rivals. In terms of market rivalry, the VOYAH Zhuiguang EV locks horns with contenders like the BYD Han EV, ZEEKR 001, Luxeed S7, and Avatr 12. Ultimately, as VOYAH's maiden venture into the saloon space, the Zhuiguang EV exhibits commendable build quality and chassis engineering, serving as a prime showcase of the marque's core engineering capability.
