GWM ORA Good Cat

2026-09-27 14:00:01

Model Overview

The ORA Good Cat is an all-electric B-segment hatchback developed under Great Wall Motor's ORA brand. Built on GWM's dedicated L.E.M.O.N. EV platform, the vehicle made its official market debut on 24 November 2020. Penned by former Porsche designer Emanuel Derta, it embraces a distinctive "Retro-Futurism" design philosophy.

The current core lineup comprises the 2025 ORA Good Cat and the 2025 Good Cat GT Mulan Edition. The standard 2025 ORA Good Cat is offered in three variants (401km Classic, 430km Luxury, and 430km Premium), with official retail prices ranging between RM83,800 and RM103,800, and limited-time promotional trade-in pricing starting from RM79,800. Meanwhile, the Good Cat GT Mulan Edition is available in two variants, priced from RM96,800 to RM106,800. Key segment rivals include compact all-electric models such as the BYD Dolphin, Geely Xingyuan, and Baojun Cloud.

Design Language

The ORA Good Cat features curvier, retro-inspired exterior styling that blends playful aesthetics with elegance. Up front, signature circular LED "cat-eye" headlamps combine with prominent front wing contours to deliver unmistakable visual identity.

While retaining its iconic silhouette, the 2025 model introduces refined exterior touches: the front bumper lower intake has been widened and extends down to the number plate section, complemented by functional air curtains on both flanks for a sportier stance without compromising its rounded profile. At the rear, the previous "ORA" lettering has been replaced with the "GWM" marque emblem to reinforce brand cohesion. The 2025 model is available in six exterior shades—Diancui Blue, Brilliant Green, Coral Pink, Tahiti Grey, Jasper Green, and Eastern Pearl White—along with several two-tone dual-colour options.

The Good Cat GT Mulan Edition retains its aggressive aero kit, complete with a carbon-fibre-patterned front splitter, 18-inch petal-style alloy wheels, and a rear bumper diffuser to accentuate its sporty character.

In terms of dimensions, the standard 2025 ORA Good Cat measures 4,242 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, and 1,632 mm tall, while the GT Mulan Edition stands at 4,254 mm / 1,848 mm / 1,632 mm; both share an identical 2,650 mm wheelbase. Boot space is rated between 228 litres and 858 litres (with the rear seats folded), easily accommodating daily urban commuting and weekend getaways.

Inside, the 2025 model adopts the brand's latest-generation cabin architecture, replacing the predecessor's dual-screen panel with a standalone floating digital instrument cluster and an independent floating central touchscreen. Drivers benefit from a fresh two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and a steering column-mounted gear selector that frees up usable storage along the centre console. New Oriental-inspired interior colourways—including "Azurite Green", "Cyan Silk", and "Sandalwood Brown"—further elevate cabin ambience and refinement.

Powertrain & Performance

The entire 2025 ORA Good Cat range utilizes a front-mounted single motor, front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration, offering permanent magnet synchronous motors in two output tunes:

Specification 401km Classic 430km Luxury 430km Premium
Max. Power 105 kW (approx. 143 PS) 126 kW (approx. 171 PS) 126 kW (approx. 171 PS)
Max. Torque 210 Nm 220 Nm 220 Nm
0–50 km/h Sprint — 3.5 seconds 3.5 seconds
Top Speed 150 km/h 150 km/h 150 km/h

The 2025 Good Cat GT Mulan Edition comes standard with the 126 kW electric motor across all variants, completing the 0–50 km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 150 km/h.

Energy is supplied by a 45.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack across the board, utilising CATL battery cells. Under CLTC testing standards, pure electric driving range is rated at 401 km and 430 km respectively. Compared to the 2024 model year, the 2025 update discontinues the older 135 kW motor and the 501 km variant, streamlining powertrain and battery specifications onto a unified hardware platform.

Charging-wise, the vehicle supports DC fast charging that replenishes 30% to 80% state of charge in approximately 30 minutes, whereas standard AC charging requires roughly 8 to 10 hours. A 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply function comes standard across the range to run electrical gear outdoors. In real-world urban driving conditions, the 430 km variant achieves an efficiency rate of approximately 90%. For colder climates, the LFP pack incorporates battery pre-heating, keeping driving range degradation down to a claimed 15% at -10°C.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the ORA Good Cat employs a front-wheel-drive setup supported by MacPherson strut independent suspension up front and a torsion beam semi-independent suspension at the rear. This configuration is widely adopted among compact EVs, striking an optimal balance between manufacturing costs and rear cabin packaging.

Stopping power is managed by front ventilated disc brakes and rear solid discs, accompanied by an electronic parking brake (EPB) with Auto Hold as standard. Tyre fitment consists of 215/50 R18 tyres on the Classic variant, while the Luxury and Premium trims ride on 225/55 R18 tyres. The Good Cat is offered exclusively in front-wheel drive, with no AWD options.

On the road, the suspension damping is distinctly comfort-biased, soaking up minor road undulations with ease and settling body rebound cleanly over speed bumps to maintain commendable rear-seat ride comfort for its class. The steering is light and manageable at low speeds for effortless city parking, gaining reassuring weight as road speeds climb to boost high-speed cruising stability. Three-level adjustable regenerative braking is provided, with the strongest setting enabling single-pedal driving. Throttle response is zippy around town, where its 0–50 km/h sprint of roughly 3.5 seconds ensures brisk off-the-line getaways and effortless lane-change overtakes.

Cabin & Equipment

In terms of in-car technology, the ORA Good Cat features a dual-screen digital cockpit. The instrument binnacle uses a 7-inch full digital cluster on the Classic variant, while Luxury and Premium variants upgrade to a 10.25-inch unit. For infotainment, the Classic is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, whereas the Luxury and Premium trims receive a larger 14.6-inch floating central display.

Infotainment is powered by GWM's Coffee OS 3 system (Coffee OS 3.2 on GT models), incorporating the Coffee App Store and mini-program ecosystem with over 40 native applications, supported by SOTA over-the-air firmware updates. The interface supports multi-zone voice command recognition, continuous dialogue, "see-and-speak" capabilities, as well as HUAWEI HiCar, Apple CarPlay, ICCOA Carlink, and wireless smartphone screen projection. Eight preset thematic cabin modes—including Nap, Pet, Camping, and Car Wash modes—allow quick setting changes for various everyday scenarios.

Cabin comfort highlights on the 2025 model include a wireless smartphone charging pad, automatic climate control with CN95 particulate filtration, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, and a transparent chassis underbody view. High-spec trims (Premium and GT Premium) add a powered tailgate, ventilated and heated front seats, as well as a heated steering wheel. On the safety front, all variants come standard with six airbags (dual front, front side, and full-length side curtain airbags).

Safety & Intelligent Driving

On passive safety, the ORA Good Cat is built around a high-strength safety cage structure complemented by six standard airbags. Its crashworthiness is backed by international safety credentials, having achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and the Euro NCAP Best-in-Class Small Family Car award in 2022, as well as finishing as a top-three finalist for World Urban Car in 2023.

For active safety, the ORA Good Cat comes equipped with the ORA-Pilot Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), bringing Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features as standard across the range. Environmental mapping relies on a 19-sensor perception suite comprising millimetre-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, and surround-view cameras. Core driver assistance features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC with Stop & Go, 0–150 km/h): automatically regulates cruising speed and maintains a safe following distance along expressways and highway stretches

  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Lane Centering Control (LCC): tracks lane markings accurately to keep the vehicle centred, gently decelerating through sharper bends and resuming preset speeds upon corner exit

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB): delivers forward collision alerts and initiates emergency braking when detecting crossing pedestrians or braking traffic

  • Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Smart Dodge (evasive manoeuvre assist), Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Door Opening Warning, and Rear Collision Warning

  • 540° Panoramic Camera with transparent under-chassis view: provides distortion-free surround views, proving especially handy when navigating tight parking structures or passing oncoming traffic in narrow alleys

For parking convenience, the 2025 model benefits from an upgraded automated parking assist system that utilises the 19-sensor suite to detect complex bay markings across more than 100 parking scenarios; it can slot into perpendicular, parallel, or diagonal lots in as little as 30 seconds, and supports remote smartphone-controlled parking.

Market Performance & Reception

Since its introduction, global cumulative sales of the ORA Good Cat series have surpassed 520,000 units (inclusive of Good Cat GT models). It has been distributed across 32 international markets, establishing localized CKD production in Thailand alongside export entries into Brazil, Indonesia, and Ecuador.

In its domestic Chinese market, annual deliveries grew from 50,900 units in 2021 to a high of 73,600 units in 2023, before experiencing a sharp drop: falling to 45,300 units in 2024 and further contracting to 29,300 units in 2025. Moving into early 2026, the slump persisted, recording combined sales of just 720 units across January and February, with 833 units logged in January and even softer numbers in February. In 2025, overall ORA brand sales tumbled 23.68% year-on-year to 48,300 units, representing the only business division within Great Wall Motor to post negative growth.

Market analysts attribute this persistent downturn to hyper-competition in the compact EV space, where rivals such as the BYD Dolphin and Geely Xingyuan continue to capture market share; an aging product lifecycle combined with a gradual model refresh cadence; and limited brand equity traction among mainstream EV buyers. The 2025 facelift adopted an aggressive "value-led pricing" strategy to regain traction through lower barrier-to-entry pricing (trade-ins starting from RM79,800) and enhanced standard equipment, though its ability to stage a meaningful sales turnaround in a crowded field remains to be seen.

On the consumer front, owners consistently praise the Good Cat for its chic exterior styling, easy low-speed manoeuvrability, pliant ride comfort, and low daily running costs. Nevertheless, recurring customer feedback highlights areas for improvement: complaint registries such as CheZhiWang point to occasional infotainment lag, battery range drop exceeding expectations in adverse conditions, and relatively pricey out-of-warranty replacement parts; the model has also seen recall campaigns in select Southeast Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia.

As a cornerstone of GWM's small EV strategy, the ORA Good Cat has carved out a unique retro-modern niche within the compact electric hatchback segment. However, against intensifying competition and rising consumer expectations for superior real-world range and cutting-edge digital cockpits, sustaining sales volume and brand appeal will require a swifter product update cycle and broader global brand building.
