XPENG MONA L05 launched in China: From HK$165,000, up to 635 km range for EV version, 1,310 km for EREV

XPENG has expanded its MONA line-up with the launch of the MONA L05, a mid-size electric SUV offered with a choice of fully electric and range-extender powertrains. Six variants are available in China, priced from RMB 139,800 to RMB 171,800 (approximately HK$165,000 to HK$202,000).

The five-seat SUV focuses on cabin space and technology, with a zero-gravity front passenger seat, a rear entertainment screen and up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power for its driver assistance system.

The first 5,000 production units have rolled off the line, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on 1 November.

Powertrain and Range

Both versions of the MONA L05 use a rear-mounted electric motor producing 183kW and 280Nm of torque. The higher-spec version can accelerate from 0–100km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Fully electric version

The EV is available with either a 58.2kWh or 71.1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering claimed CLTC ranges of 535km and 635km respectively.

It supports 3C fast charging, with a 10–80% charge taking as little as 19.1 minutes under the stated conditions.

Range-extender version

The range-extender model combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 37.2kWh battery. It offers an electric-only range of 310km and a combined range of 1,310km with a full tank and fully charged battery.

XPENG quotes combined fuel consumption of 2.3L/100km under the WLTC cycle, rising to around 5.26L/100km when the battery is depleted.

Dimensions

The MONA L05 measures 4,870mm long, 1,930mm wide and 1,636mm tall, with a 2,940mm wheelbase. Its exterior was designed by a team led by Juanma Lopez, formerly head of exterior design at Ferrari, under the theme of "Vital Flow".

Design details include frameless doors, flush side windows, concealed window trim, frameless door mirrors and an active grille shutter system.

Six exterior colours are available: green, black, white, grey, silver and purple. Buyers can also opt for the ROAM package, which adds sporty exterior details, 20-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather seats and an exclusive infotainment theme.

Interior

The cabin features a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 26.8-inch wide-angle head-up display and a 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen. A 20-speaker AI sound system is also available.

The front passenger gets a 14-point massage zero-gravity seat, while the driver's seat offers active lumbar and shoulder support. Rear seats feature powered angle adjustment and heating.

Other interior equipment includes 256-colour ambient lighting and a choice of Deep Space Grey or Atmospheric Grey cabin finishes.

Luggage capacity stands at 702 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,913 litres when they are folded down. The fully electric version also has a 102-litre front boot.

Intelligent Driving

The MONA L05 uses XPENG's Turing AI driver assistance system. The Max version runs the second-generation Turing VLA Lite model, while the Ultra SE gets two Turing AI chips delivering a combined 1,500 TOPS of computing power.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Automatic Emergency Steering (AES) and a tyre-blowout stability control function are standard across the range.

With its roomy five-seat cabin, choice of EV and range-extender powertrains, and extensive technology package, the MONA L05 is aimed at buyers seeking a practical family SUV without stretching their budget.

The fully electric version offers up to 635km of claimed CLTC range, while the range-extender model's 310km electric range and 1,310km combined range offer greater flexibility for longer journeys.
