The Hong Kong Transport Department will hold its next auction of vehicle registration marks on 5 September, with 320 registration marks going under the hammer at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
The auction will be held in two sessions. The morning session will offer 100 personalised vehicle registration marks, while 220 traditional registration marks will be auctioned in the afternoon.
The auction will take place at Meeting Room S421 on Level 4 of the Old Wing of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Bidders must attend the auction in person.

The full list and other auction details are available on the Transport Department's website.
For the traditional registration marks, this auction includes only marks beginning with "HK" or "XX", as well as special vehicle registration marks. Bidders must attend the physical auction and should check the reserve price announced by the auctioneer before bidding.
All personalised registration marks have a fixed reserve price of HK$5,000. Applicants who have already paid the HK$5,000 deposit must still attend the auction and place the first bid themselves. If they do not attend, their reserved mark may be bought by another bidder at the reserve price.
Documents required
Successful bidders must complete the registration and payment procedures immediately after winning a registration mark.
Individual bidders should bring their identity document. If the buyer is not the same person as the bidder, proof of the buyer's identity is also required. Companies bidding in their own name should bring a copy of their Certificate of Incorporation.
Payment methods
Payment can only be made by EPS or crossed cheque payable to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
If you plan to bid for both personalised and traditional registration marks on the same day, the Transport Department recommends bringing at least two crossed cheques.
Cash, credit cards and post-dated cheques are not accepted. If payment is made by cheque, the registration mark can only be assigned to a vehicle three working days after the cheque has cleared.
12-month deadline
The successful buyer must assign the registration mark to a vehicle registered in their name within 12 months of the auction date.
If the mark has not been assigned within this period, the Transport Department may cancel the allocation without further notice.
Special registration marks cannot be transferred
Special vehicle registration marks cannot be transferred with the vehicle. If a vehicle carrying one of these marks changes ownership, the registration mark will be reclaimed by the Transport Department.
Personalised marks cannot be changed after the auction
Once a personalised registration mark has been approved at auction, its letters, numbers, spacing and single- or double-line layout cannot be changed.
Buyers who successfully bid for a personalised registration mark will receive a Personalised Vehicle Registration Mark Allocation Certificate.
If the vehicle is later sold with the personalised registration mark, the seller must provide the original certificate. The original document is also required for the transfer of ownership.
For the full rules and requirements, bidders can refer to the Transport Department's detailed guidance on traditional and personalised vehicle registration mark auctions.
