DENZA Z9GT launched in Hong Kong at HK$998,000 – 1,156 hp, 701 km range and 5-minute flash charging

DENZA has officially launched its flagship Z9GT electric grand tourer in Hong Kong, priced at HK$998,000. The new model combines a shooting brake design with a three-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 850kW (approximately 1,156 hp), enough for a claimed 0–100km/h time of just 2.7 seconds.

It also features a 122.49kWh battery, a claimed NEDC range of up to 701km and BYD's latest Flash Charging technology, which can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes under compatible conditions.

The launch event took place on 23 October aboard a dedicated floating venue, with around 250 invited guests and members of the media attending.

BYD Group Vice President and General Manager of the Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division Liu Xueliang was also present.

To mark the occasion, DENZA staged a display featuring 2,000 drones over Victoria Harbour. The performance highlighted the brand's development, the Z9GT's technology and BYD Group's environmental ambition of reducing the Earth's temperature by 1°C.

At almost 5.2 metres long, the Z9GT combines the proportions of a luxury grand tourer with the extended roofline and practical body shape of a shooting brake.

Its exterior features a 1:3 wheel-to-axle proportion, a flowing shoulder line, pronounced rear wheel arches and a two-tier rear spoiler.

Together, these details give the Z9GT a low, wide stance while retaining the long, elegant profile traditionally associated with grand touring cars.

The Z9GT uses a 1,000V high-voltage electric platform, together with an upgraded Cell-to-Body (CTB) structure and BYD's second-generation Blade Battery.

Battery capacity stands at 122.49kWh, with a claimed driving range of up to 701km under the NEDC test cycle. DENZA also highlights the battery's safety credentials, having subjected the second-generation Blade Battery to a series of demanding safety tests.

One of the Z9GT's biggest selling points is its support for BYD Flash Charging, a system that has already entered service in Hong Kong.

According to DENZA, the charging system can take the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, the company claims a 20–97% charge takes just 12 minutes.

These figures depend on access to compatible high-power charging equipment and suitable battery conditions. For Hong Kong drivers who regularly use public chargers or make cross-border journeys, the combination of a large battery and rapid charging could be particularly useful.

The Z9GT features a three-motor all-wheel-drive system, comprising an asynchronous motor at the front and two permanent-magnet synchronous motors at the rear.

Combined output is rated at 850kW (approximately 1,156 hp) and 1,210Nm of torque, with the motors capable of spinning at up to 19,000rpm.

DENZA quotes a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 240km/h, putting the Z9GT firmly in high-performance grand tourer territory.

Underneath, the Z9GT uses double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear arrangement.

It also comes with DENZA's DiSus-A intelligent air suspension system, which allows the ride height to be adjusted.

The system is designed to balance ride comfort, body control and handling, whether travelling on city streets or cruising at higher speeds.

Despite measuring almost 5.2 metres long, the Z9GT has a claimed turning radius of just 4.62 metres, thanks to its rear-wheel steering system.

This forms part of DENZA's e³ intelligent electric-drive platform, which is designed to improve manoeuvrability and vehicle control.

For Hong Kong drivers, the technology could make a noticeable difference when negotiating narrow streets, tight corners and confined parking spaces.

The Z9GT also offers several specialised manoeuvring functions, including Compass Turn, intelligent Crab Walk and e³ Parking Mode. These allow the car to perform movements that would be difficult for a conventional large GT, particularly in restricted spaces.

With a Hong Kong price of HK$998,000, the DENZA Z9GT brings together supercar-level acceleration, long-range electric capability and advanced manoeuvring technology in a luxury shooting brake package.
