Model Overview

The ARCFOX Alpha T5 is an all-electric mid-size SUV from ARCFOX, the premium intelligent EV brand under BAIC BJEV. Following the Alpha T and Alpha S, it serves as the marquee offering in the brand’s push into the mainstream family SUV segment. The vehicle made its debut in 2024 as a pure EV, before the 2026 facelift arrived in October 2025 with the addition of a range-extender (EREV) powertrain. The 2026 line-up comprises 7 variants—3 EREV and 4 BEV—with official retail prices ranging from RM113,800 to RM158,800, alongside limited-time promotional prices between RM109,800 and RM154,800. The dual-powertrain strategy caters to both long-distance drivers and urban commuters with readily accessible charging infrastructure. The entire range comes fitted with CATL battery packs; the EREV variants feature CATL Freevoy hybrid-specific batteries, whilst range-topping BEV models boast CATL Shenxing 5C super-fast charging technology. As the brand’s chief volume driver, the Alpha T5 remains ARCFOX's sole offering above the RM100,000 mark to command meaningful market presence and sales volume.

Design Language

On the outside, the Alpha T5 wears ARCFOX’s signature family styling, skewing towards a youthful and athletic aesthetic. The front fascia features a closed-off grille flanked by triangular split LED headlamps, with daytime running lights shaped like sharp scythes. These converge on an illuminated ARCFOX emblem, sitting above an active trapezoidal lower air intake. The 2026 facelift cleans up the nose by deleting the gloss black trim connecting the headlights and enlarging the functional side air curtains, lending the front end a sleeker, more aggressive stance. Along the flanks, a rakish fastback roofline is paired with an upswept shoulder line, flush pop-out door handles, and 19-inch five-spoke aerodynamic alloy wheels. Smoked black roof rails and a blacked-out D-pillar treatment deliver a floating roof effect. Round back, a full-width smoked LED light bar spans the tailgate, complemented by a substantial rear diffuser below for added sportiness. The entire range achieves an impressive drag coefficient of 0.245 Cd, ranking among the sleekest in its class.

Dimensionally, the 2026 model measures 4,760 mm in length, 1,936 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, riding on a 2,845 mm wheelbase that firmly places it in the upper A+ to D-segment SUV bracket. The exterior palette adds Vana Blue and Lava Grey metallic finishes to the existing Sea Rock Grey, Polar Fox White, and Polar Night Black. The minimalist, tech-forward cabin features clean horizontal dash lines and comes in either Obsidian Black or Flame Brown. Ditching a traditional instrument binnacle, the driver relies on a 22.8-inch AR-HUD and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen as the primary interface. Gear selection is handled via a steering column-mounted electronic stalk, matched with a two-spoke circular steering wheel. Eco-conscious buyers will appreciate the extensive use of low-VOC materials, resulting in an official in-cabin formaldehyde reading of just 0.006 mg/m³ for a healthier cabin environment.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 Alpha T5 is available with both range-extender (EREV) and pure electric (BEV) setups. The EREV model runs on the BAIC Shenqing system, which pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine (acting solely as an onboard generator) with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The range extender produces 77 kW (approx. 105 PS) with a thermal efficiency of 40%, generating efficiency of around 95%, and an electricity conversion rate exceeding 3.5 kWh/L. The drive motor puts out 200 kW (approx. 272 PS) and 360 Nm of torque through a single-speed transmission in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout. It completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in an official 6.5 seconds, or 7.6 seconds when battery reserves are depleted. Drawing power from a 27.4 kWh CATL Freevoy hybrid battery pack, it yields a CLTC pure electric range of 215 km and a combined cruising range of 1,215 km, returning a WLTC low-battery fuel consumption of roughly 5.18 L/100 km. On the charging front, it supports 3C DC fast charging, taking just 15 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80% SoC.

The pure electric version uses a front-mounted single motor across the board in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. It is offered in two states of tune: 185 kW (approx. 252 PS) and 200 kW (approx. 272 PS), both capable of a 0–100 km/h run in 7.5 seconds en route to a 180 km/h top speed. Battery packs use CATL cells throughout, available in 64.8 kWh, 74.4 kWh, and 79.2 kWh capacities, which translate to CLTC ranges of 560 km, 660 km, and 705 km respectively. The 660 km Yuanjing Shenxing Edition is built on an advanced 800V high-voltage architecture and sports CATL Shenxing 5C super-fast charging cells; it needs just 8.9 minutes to jump from 30% to 80% SoC, recovering up to 400 km of range in a brisk 10-minute top-up. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging functionality is standard across all variants.

Chassis and Handling

Under the skin, the Alpha T5 employs front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension arrangement, with the EREV driving the rear wheels and the BEV driving the front. The suspension is tuned distinctly for family-oriented comfort; the dampers exhibit initial suppleness over minor road imperfections and tighten up progressively over larger bumps to rein in body movements, preserving adequate road feel while striking an admirable balance between ride comfort and handling composure. The electric power steering (EPS) is lightly weighted at low speeds, gaining satisfying, speed-sensitive resistance in Sport mode for an intuitive and relaxed drive. Braking duties are handled by ventilated discs all round, backed by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and an electronic brake booster. 235/50 R19 tyres come standard, while higher grades upgrade to wider 245/45 R20 rubber. For NVH suppression, acoustic double-glazed laminated glass is fitted to the windscreen and front side windows, insulating the cabin well at a standstill, though faint wind rush remains audible past 100 km/h on the highway.

Cabin and Features

The Alpha T5’s interior is defined by a clean, minimalist design ethos that does away with a conventional instrument cluster, consolidating driving data and infotainment into a 22.8-inch AR-HUD and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen. The system runs on the α-OS software suite, with higher-spec variants driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8775 cockpit-driving integrated SoC, which centralises computing power for both in-cabin infotainment and driver-assist functions. It supports full-scenario voice interactions, including four-zone voice wake-up, continuous multi-command dialogue, and "see-and-say" execution. Smartphone connectivity covers Apple CarPlay, HUAWEI HiCar, and Carlink, complemented by native apps such as AutoNavi Maps, QQ Music, and iQIYI. In terms of comfort, a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunblind is standard across the board, alongside a 50W cooled wireless charging pad up front. The powered front seats feature heating, ventilation, and an 8-point massage function, as well as a 180° one-touch flat-fold mechanism that aligns with the rear bench to create a 2,700 mm continuous resting lounge. Rear seat heating is also included. High-spec models treat audiophiles to an 18-speaker Hi-Fi sound system featuring 6 ceiling-mounted speakers for immersive surround sound. A 256-colour ambient lighting system is fitted as standard.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

On the safety front, the Alpha T5 is built on BAIC’s proprietary Aurora battery platform. The battery pack exceeds China's national standards across six key safety evaluations—including underbody scraping, open flame exposure, and structural bending—while clearing 17 additional extreme-scenario validation tests. Standard passive safety equipment includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

Driver-assist capabilities are governed by BAIC’s self-developed Yuanjing intelligent driving system (with select trims utilising α-Pilot). At the hardware level, the Snapdragon 8775 integrated chip enables seamless cross-functional processing between the digital cockpit and ADAS. The perception stack relies on Zhuoyu’s inertial-guided binocular stereo vision solution, deploying bionic dual cameras for precise 3D spatial mapping to deliver Urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) and Highway NOA without relying on costly LiDAR or high-definition maps. The sensor suite also incorporates millimetre-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, and high-definition cameras. Functional highlights on upper trims include Urban/Highway NOA, full-scenario automated parking assist, turn-signal-activated lane change assist, traffic light recognition, and memory valet parking. During its launch phase, the manufacturer provided an ADAS assurance package offering up to RM3,000,000 in single-incident coverage for unexpected mishaps while autonomous driving assist functions are engaged.

Market Performance and Evaluation

Even prior to the 2026 facelift, the Alpha T5 had firmly established itself as ARCFOX’s star performer. Throughout 2025, ARCFOX's total deliveries crossed the 160,000-unit milestone—a year-on-year surge of approximately 99%—with the Alpha T5 driving the bulk of that volume. Monthly deliveries consistently hovered between 2,000 and 5,000 units, repeatedly breaking the 4,000-unit mark in the second half of 2025. The 2026 update further broadens its appeal: the newly added EREV variant addresses long-range travel concerns, whilst the 800V platform and 5C flash-charging dramatically enhance the charging experience for BEV customers.

Industry commentators and owners alike have largely lauded the SUV for its strong value proposition. In its segment, prime rivals include the Leapmotor C10, BYD Sealion 06 NEV, Neta L, AION Y, Yuan PLUS, and Galaxy E5. Buyer research shows that purchase decisions are largely swayed by the brand's manufacturing credibility (backed by state-owned BAIC Group), confidence in battery durability (supplied by CATL), healthy cabin materials, and spacious interior packaging. On the flip side, criticisms centre on an infotainment app ecosystem that could benefit from broader third-party support, minor wind noise at highway cruising speeds, and the omission of seat ventilation on certain early base trims. All told, through its dual-powertrain flexibility, trickle-down tech via the Snapdragon 8775 chip, and aggressive pricing that brings Urban NOA under the RM150,000 mark, the ARCFOX Alpha T5 presents a compelling package in the mid-size NEV SUV arena, cementing its status as the brand’s core volume seller.
