Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. (BAIC Group) is headquartered in Beijing. Its predecessor dates back to the Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Plant established in 1958. Today, it has grown into a large state-owned automotive group covering complete vehicles (including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and new energy vehicles), parts R&D and manufacturing, automotive service trade, comprehensive mobility services, and finance and investment. The group currently employs 130,000 people, with annual revenue exceeding 500 billion RMB. It has consistently ranked in the Fortune Global 500 for many years, ranking 201st in 2025 and 5th among Chinese automotive enterprises. The current Party Secretary and Chairman is Zhang Jianyong.
BAIC Group's history is a microcosm of China's automotive industry development, roughly divided into three periods: the Hard-Striving Startup Period, the Reform and Development Period, and the Take-off and Leapfrog Period.
In 1958, BAIC's predecessor, the Beijing First Automotive Accessory Factory, successfully test-produced the "Jinggangshan" sedan, the first domestically made car in New China, ending China's inability to produce complete vehicles. In 1966, the Beijing BJ212 light off-road vehicle emerged, creating an industry legend with cumulative production exceeding 1.2 million units, establishing BAIC's reputation as an "off-road heritage." In 1973, the Beijing Automotive Industry Company was officially established, marking a significant shift in the management system of Beijing's automotive industry.
After Reform and Opening Up, BAIC stood at the forefront of the opening up of China's automotive industry. In 1983, China's first complete vehicle manufacturing joint venture, Beijing Jeep Motor Company Limited, was established, opening a new chapter in the opening up and cooperation of China's automotive industry. In 2002, BAIC jointly established Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd. with Hyundai Motor of South Korea, becoming the first approved automotive joint venture project after China's entry into the WTO, creating the "Hyundai speed" of signing, opening, and producing vehicles in the same year. In 2003, BAIC and Daimler formed Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd., setting a model for deepening Sino-German strategic joint cooperation.
In 2010, BAIC was officially renamed "Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd.," embarking on a "group-style" development path. In 2018, BAIC BJEV was listed on the A-share market through a major asset restructuring, becoming China's "No. 1 New Energy Vehicle Stock." In recent years, BAIC Group has accelerated its pace of independent innovation: it launched the independent passenger car brand BEIJING in 2019; jointly launched the high-end intelligent brand Stelato with Huawei in 2024; launched the new energy commercial vehicle brand Kawen Auto in the same year; and released the intelligent technology architecture system "BAIC Yuanjing Intelligent" in 2025, with Level 3 autonomous driving officially approved for road use.
BAIC Group has built a diverse brand system covering passenger cars and commercial vehicles, catering to both mass and high-end markets.
In terms of independent brands, Stelato Auto is a high-end intelligent electric vehicle brand jointly built by BAIC Group and Huawei, positioned in the high-end market above 300,000 RMB, leading with a luxury positioning of "new intelligence, new safety, new aesthetics." Arcfox is a high-end intelligent new energy vehicle brand under BAIC Group, positioned in the mid-to-high-end pure electric market, advocating "born to break boundaries, extreme intelligence guards." Beijing Automobile covers product lines such as BEIJING and Beijing Off-Road, covering mass passenger cars and professional off-road vehicle markets. In the independent commercial vehicle field, Foton Motors remains number one in the industry, and BAIC Heavy Truck is also part of the portfolio.
In terms of joint venture brands, Beijing Benz is a benchmark enterprise in the domestic luxury car market; Beijing Hyundai has deepened its presence in the Chinese market for over 20 years, gaining over 12 million Chinese users; Fujian Benz focuses on the high-end business vehicle field; and Foton Daimler focuses on the heavy truck field.
In 2025, BAIC Group achieved complete vehicle sales of 1.752 million units, a year-on-year growth of 5.6%; independent brand sales broke through 1.07 million units, accounting for 61% of total sales, reaching a historical high. New energy product sales broke through 390,000 units for the whole year, a year-on-year growth of 95%, significantly outperforming the industry average. Regarding exports, exports reached 308,000 units for the whole year, a year-on-year growth of 26%, reaching a historical high, with products sold to over 130 countries and regions globally.
Performance highlights in each segment are outstanding: Arcfox sold 163,000 units for the whole year, a year-on-year growth of 101%, doubling sales for two consecutive years; Beijing Off-Road sold over 200,000 units for the whole year, a year-on-year growth of 38%, with the BJ40 single product ranking as the hardcore off-road champion for 11 consecutive months; Stelato Auto's monthly sales exceeded 10,000 units, holding first place in the 300,000 to 500,000 RMB high-end new energy sedan market; Foton Motors continued to remain number one in the industry with annual sales exceeding 650,000 units. Entering 2026, BAIC Group continued its growth trend, with independent brand sales in the first quarter reaching 254,000 units, a year-on-year growth of 11%. In 2026, BAIC Group plans to achieve complete vehicle sales of 2.2 million units.
Since the "14th Five-Year Plan," BAIC Group has accumulated R&D investment exceeding 44.7 billion RMB and has won the First Prize for Science and Technology Progress in China's Automotive Industry seven times. BAIC Group has accumulated approximately 39,000 patent applications and is dedicated to building a 10,000-person R&D team.
In the field of intelligence, BAIC Group released the "BAIC Yuanjing Intelligent" technology system, with "full-domain integration" at its core, upgrading vehicles into "full-domain intelligent agents." In December 2025, the Arcfox Alpha S (L3 Edition) under the Arcfox brand obtained the first Level 3 autonomous driving product access license from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and received the first batch of national autonomous driving dedicated formal license plates, becoming one of the automotive enterprises to take the lead in achieving commercial deployment of Level 3 autonomous driving domestically. In the Level 4 unmanned driving field, the Robotaxi jointly developed by BAIC and Pony.ai has achieved mass production and road operation.
In the field of new energy core technologies, BAIC Group has achieved breakthroughs in power batteries, electric drive, intelligent cockpits, off-road technology, hydrogen energy commercial vehicles, and other areas. The Alpha S5 Shenxing Edition, launched in 2025, was the first to bring 800V and 5C supercharging technology down to the 150,000 RMB level. In the field of solid-state batteries, semi-solid-state batteries will complete product development in 2026, and all-solid-state battery systems are planned for small-batch production in 2027. BAIC Foton Kawen also released the world's first engineering liquid hydrogen heavy truck, achieving full industry chain independence and control in the field of liquid hydrogen fuel heavy trucks.
BAIC Group has established the "One Core, Five Directions" core strategy, with "persisting in developing independent brands" as the "One Core," comprehensively promoting the coordinated development of the "Five Directions": marketization, groupization, internationalization, digitalization, and low-carbonization. The group is deeply implementing the "Three-Year Leapfrog Action," clearly defining the development goal of exceeding 3 million complete vehicle sales in the first stage (2025–2027).
Looking to the future, BAIC Group will continue to uphold its brand concept, "Travel with Integrity, Reach the World," following a sustainable development path of scaling up, moving upmarket, servitization, internationalization, and low-carbonization, committing to becoming a car manufacturer and service provider with international competitiveness and a leader in high-quality mobility. The group is anchoring its grand blueprint for 2030, marching forward toward the goal of building a "Century BAIC."
