Hong Kong Transport Department announces special traffic arrangements for Mid-Autumn Festival

Transport Department has announced special traffic and public transport arrangements from 24 to 26 September for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on 25 September. The department has advised the public to check service arrangements and plan their journeys ahead of time.

Road closures across Hong Kong

Road closures and traffic diversions will be introduced in Tai Hang from 24 to 26 September for the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance.

Further closures and diversions will be in place on 25 and 26 September in several parts of Hong Kong Island, including Causeway Bay, The Peak, Aberdeen, Pok Fu Lam, Repulse Bay and Shek O.

In the New Territories, affected areas include Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and Ma On Shan.

Some parking spaces, taxi stands and public light bus stops in these areas will also be temporarily suspended.

More trains and buses

Public transport services will be stepped up or extended on 25 September, with some services running into the early hours of 26 September.

MTR

Most MTR lines will gradually increase services from 3pm, with services extended into the early hours of 26 September. The Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line and East Rail Line services to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau are excluded. All 11 Light Rail routes and three MTR Bus routes will also run later.

Buses

Four special routes — 71P, N64P, N272 and 173R — will operate. Franchised bus operators will also extend the operating hours of six routes, while nine green minibus routes will run for longer.

Route changes

44 bus routes and 14 green minibus routes will be temporarily diverted because of the road closures, with some stops relocated. Tram and ferry operators will also add services where needed.

Public transport recommended

The Transport Department is advising people to use public transport where possible to avoid congestion and delays. The department and police will monitor traffic and crowd conditions throughout the celebrations and adjust the arrangements if necessary.
