Hong Kong to accept personalised vehicle registration mark applications from 1 September

Transport Department will accept applications for the 58th round of the personalised vehicle registration mark scheme from 1 to 30 September 2026.

Applicants can submit their applications online, by post or through designated drop-off boxes, and no deposit is required at the application stage.

One-month application window

Applications will be open from 1 to 30 September. If more than 1,500 applications are received, the Transport Department will hold a ballot to decide which applicants can take part in the subsequent auction.

Each applicant can submit only one application for each round. Duplicate applications will not be processed, and applications cannot be withdrawn or amended once submitted.

Applicants should also note that the number arrangement cannot be changed after an application has been submitted.

Three ways to apply

The application form (TD 569) and relevant guidelines can be downloaded from the Transport Department's website, or collected from its licensing offices and Home Affairs Enquiry Centres.

Applications can then be submitted in one of three ways:

1. Online

Hong Kong residents with an activated iAM Smart+ account with digital signing enabled, or applicants with a valid digital certificate, can apply through the GovHK online service. An acknowledgement will be issued immediately after submission.

2. By post

Completed applications can be mailed to the Transport Department Vehicle Registration Marks Unit at 12/F, South Tower, West Kowloon Government Offices, 11 Hoi Ting Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon. The postmark date will be used to determine whether the application was submitted on time.

3. Drop-off box

Applicants can place their completed forms in the designated drop-off boxes at the Transport Department's licensing offices in Admiralty, Cheung Sha Wan, Kwun Tong and Sha Tin. The envelope should be clearly marked "Application for Personalised Vehicle Registration Mark Scheme".

For applications submitted by post or drop-off box, the Transport Department will send an acknowledgement letter by ordinary mail within two weeks. Applicants who do not receive it after that period can call 2804 2600 to check the status.

Before you apply

Applicants should read the scheme guidelines carefully before submitting a form. The GovHK website also provides an online checking service that allows applicants to check whether their proposed registration mark meets the basic requirements.

For anyone hoping to secure a personalised registration mark, it is worth checking the preferred combination early and preparing the application in advance. Online applications are the quickest option, as applicants receive confirmation immediately after submission.
