Nissan recently announced that it has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Chery International UK, finalizing a cooperation plan for production in the United Kingdom.

Starting from the fiscal year 2027 (April 2027), Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK will officially begin producing Chery models under contract on its production line No. 1. This production will be carried out by Nissan's existing workforce. Ownership of the factory, as well as personnel and labor management authority, will remain entirely with Nissan and will not change.

To facilitate this cooperation, Nissan will consolidate its core models, including the Qashqai, Juke, and Leaf, onto production line No. 2, freeing up line No. 1 to fully meet Chery's localized production needs in the UK.

Located in North East England, the Sunderland plant is the largest passenger car production base in the UK, with a peak annual capacity of 600,000 vehicles, demonstrating strong manufacturing capabilities.

Chery has delivered impressive performance in the UK car market in recent years, consistently ranking among the top players. In April this year, Chery UK recorded sales of 10,052 vehicles, capturing a 6.7% market share, placing second in the UK, only behind Volkswagen's 12,884 vehicles.

Regarding brand-specific performance, Jaecoo sold 3,877 units with a 2.6% market share; Omoda achieved sales of 3,275 units and a 2.2% market share; while the main Chery brand sold 2,900 units with a 1.9% market share. Statistics show that in the first four months of 2026, Chery registered a total of 46,090 vehicles in the UK, indicating a steady growth trend.
