The JAECOO J5 is an entry-level 5-seat pure electric SUV, designed to be lightweight and practical for daily city commuting and weekend outdoor activities in Hong Kong. Its design is inspired by the British Range Rover, earning it the nickname "baby Range Rover Sport".

The JAECOO J5 features a single-motor front-wheel drive setup with a 58.9 kWh LFP battery, producing 211 hp and 288 Nm of torque. It has a WLTP range of up to 402 km and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds, sufficient for daily needs.

The JAECOO J5 supports up to 130 kW DC fast charging, taking about 28 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. With a 6.6 kW medium-speed AC charger, it takes about 5.95 hours to charge from 20% to 80%.

The JAECOO J5 is the world's first production car to receive German TÜV certification for being "pet-friendly". The seats are made from eco-friendly semi-silicon PU material, offering 99.9% antibacterial properties and excellent scratch resistance. The cabin also features a "Pet Mode" with intelligent temperature control and a keep-climate-on function when the car is locked. There is also a 35-litre washable front trunk for pet supplies.

The JAECOO J5 measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm and a kerb weight of just 1,710 kg. This size makes manoeuvring and parking in Hong Kong very convenient. The cabin is reasonably spacious and comfortable, with ventilated and heated front seats.

The JAECOO J5 features an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch vertical central touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay. Other standard equipment includes 50W wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a 540-degree parking camera (with underbody perspective function), a powered tailgate, and a 1.45 square metre panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade.

Very comprehensive. The JAECOO J5 comes standard with 19 ADAS features, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Monitoring. For passive safety, it has 7 airbags, including a rare front-centre airbag that prevents head collisions between the driver and front passenger during a side impact.

The JAECOO J5 has a certain "light off-road" capability, with a ground clearance of 174 mm, a wading depth of 450 mm, an approach angle of 20°, and a departure angle of 29.8°. These figures are more than enough for gentle slopes and mild unpaved roads, but it's still far from a true off-roader like the Land Rover Defender. The J5 is primarily positioned as a city SUV, with off-road ability as an added bonus.

Thanks to its lightweight 1.7-tonne body, the JAECOO J5 is very brisk and responsive in the city, with smooth power delivery that feels quite close to a petrol car. It's stable in corners, but the factory-fitted Giti tyres have limited grip, and they can squeal under faster cornering. Tyre noise is also noticeable at higher speeds. Overall, the J5 is an easy-to-drive and unintimidating urban electric SUV.

The JAECOO J5 is available in a range of exterior colours, including Camouflage Green, Dark Grey, White, Silver, and Midnight Black. The interior is primarily offered in Black premium synthetic leather, matching the practical and understated taste of Hong Kong car owners.
