On May 15, at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como, BMW Group unveiled the Vision BMW ALPINA design concept. This marks the first concept from ALPINA since the brand was fully integrated into BMW Group in early 2026, signaling a new chapter for BMW ALPINA as an independent ultra-luxury brand. The concept is a large luxury four-seat GT coupe powered by a V8 engine, measuring 5,200 mm in length, reinterpreting Alpina’s half-century motorsport heritage through a bold contemporary design language.

Founded in 1965, Alpina was an independent Bavarian manufacturer specializing in high-performance BMW modifications, renowned for blending extreme performance with long-distance comfort. BMW Group announced its acquisition of Alpina in March 2022, with the partnership expiring on December 31, 2025. In January 2026, BMW China announced that BMW ALPINA would operate as an independent brand within the group. The Vision BMW ALPINA is the first concept developed from scratch since the acquisition, positioning Alpina as an independent ultra-luxury marque filling the gap between BMW’s core lineup and Rolls-Royce.

At 5,200 mm in length, the concept sits low, wide, and confident, with a sweeping coupe roofline that conveys speed while offering genuine comfort for four occupants. The signature “shark nose” front end—first seen on the 1970s Alpina B7 Coupé—reinterprets BMW’s kidney grille as a sculptural three-dimensional form. From this shark nose, a “Speed Line” rises at a six-degree angle along the flanks and wraps around the rear, conveying motion while maintaining Alpina’s characteristic restraint.

The iconic 20-spoke wheels, an Alpina signature since 1971, are reimagined in staggered 22-inch front and 23-inch rear diameters. The Deco Lines, part of Alpina’s design language since 1974, are distilled and painted beneath the clear coat. Quad elliptical exhaust outlets and the Alpina wordmark on the front spoiler complete the exterior. The daytime running lights and kidney grille illumination feature a warm white tone named “Dawn Break White,” inspired by first light over the Bavarian Alps.

The design embodies “Second Read” sophistication — restrained at first glance, revealing richness upon closer inspection. Inside, the six-degree Speed Line flows through the cabin, separating a bi-colour interior. Metal components feature chamfering inspired by haute horlogerie; glass bottles and engraved BMW ALPINA crystal tumblers sit behind the rear centre console.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, stated: “Alpina has always represented a very specific idea of performance and refinement. In this philosophy, speed and comfort are not opposites — they complement each other.” BMW ALPINA will be positioned between BMW and Rolls-Royce, competing with Bentley, Mercedes-Maybach, Range Rover SV and premium Porsche models. The first production model is expected in 2027, likely based on the new 7 Series, followed by an X7 derivative. For Hong Kong buyers, BMW Hong Kong has yet to announce any right-hand-drive plans or distribution timeline.
