Geely’s Galaxy series is about to welcome a new champion. The highly anticipated Geely Galaxy M7, a compact SUV that promises to redefine efficiency and technology in its segment, is officially scheduled to hit the Chinese market on April 28. Following the commencement of its pre-sale phase, the M7 has already generated significant buzz, offering three variants with a pre-sale price range of 139,800 to 156,800 yuan

(approximately $19,300 to $21,600 USD). This new model signals Geely’s aggressive push to dominate the new energy vehicle (NEV) landscape, blending a striking design philosophy with a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid system.

The Geely Galaxy M7 is positioned as a compact SUV, but its specifications tell a story of ambition that stretches beyond its class. At the heart of its appeal is a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system that delivers a remarkable CLTC-rated pure electric range of up to 225 kilometers and a combined CLTC range of 1,730 kilometers. This figure places the M7 at the forefront of the hybrid efficiency race, directly challenging rivals like the BYD Song Pro DM-i and other top contenders in China’s fiercely competitive NEV market.

From the moment one lays eyes on the Galaxy M7, it is clear that Geely’s design team has been meticulous. The front fascia adopts the latest family language, featuring the distinctive 'Flying Eave Tiger Stare' headlight design. This is complemented by the 'Galaxy Ripple' full-width light bar, which spans over two meters and incorporates 362 LEDs and 500 laser-engraved micro-detail elements. The aggressive yet refined look is further enhanced by chrome-trimmed air intakes on either side, lending the vehicle a premium, almost futuristic presence.

Moving along the profile, the Galaxy M7 exhibits muscular, three-dimensional body lines and a floating roofline design that remains a favorite among modern SUV buyers. Geely’s engineers have paid close attention to aerodynamics, optimizing over 20 specific areas—including the nose’s R-angle and the D-pillar recess—to achieve an impressively low drag coefficient of just 0.27 Cd. This is a notable achievement for a compact SUV, especially one that does not compromise rear headroom for styling.

The rear of the vehicle mirrors the front’s technological theme with a continuous taillight bar, centered by Geely’s English logo. A sporty diffuser and a roof spoiler complete the look, giving the M7 a planted and dynamic stance. In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy M7 measures 4,770 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm. These proportions ensure a spacious interior while maintaining a sporty footprint.

Step inside, and the Galaxy M7 reveals a cabin that is as much about digital sophistication as it is about comfort. The centerpiece is the 15.4-inch high-definition central touchscreen, powered by a 7nm 'Loong Eagle No.1' chip. This hardware ensures buttery-smooth operation for the Flyme Auto 2.0 intelligent cockpit system. The system is augmented by the 'Hi Eva' voice model, enabling full-scenario AI interaction that understands complex, natural language commands.

The technology suite extends to advanced driving assistance. The Galaxy M7 comes standard with the 'Qianli Haohan' (Vast Sky) H3 driver-assistance solution. This system supports highway and elevated-road Navigate on Autopilot (NOA), capable of automatic lane changes and ramp merging. The all-scenario parking assist can recognize over 300 different types of parking spaces, while the AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) system can bring the vehicle to a safe stop even at speeds of 120 km/h. Furthermore, the AES (Autonomous Emergency Steering) function can perform evasive maneuvers at speeds up to 130 km/h, significantly enhancing safety margins.

Interior appointments are equally impressive. The cabin is generously covered in eco-suede materials, accented with natural wood grain trim, creating a warm and premium ambiance. Audiophiles will appreciate the Flyme Sound system with 23 speakers, while the 256-color AI ambient lighting allows for personalized mood settings. The panoramic glass roof spans an expansive 1.2 square meters, flooding the cabin with natural light. For families, the M7 offers exceptional practicality: the trunk volume can be expanded to a cavernous 1,990 liters, and there are 30 cleverly designed storage compartments scattered throughout the cabin.

Safety is a cornerstone of the Galaxy M7’s engineering. Built on Geely’s 'Global Safety 2.0' philosophy, the vehicle features a 'Star Armor' cage-style body structure, a 1,500 MPa integrated hot-formed boron steel door ring, and a nine-beam, four-cross-member chassis protection framework. Additionally, the Galaxy M7 includes a steel plate in the rear seats for added structural integrity, along with a 'Cloverleaf' energy-absorbing structure designed to dissipate impact forces effectively.

Under the hood, the hybrid powertrain represents a technical tour de force. The 1.5-liter Leishen EM super hybrid engine produces 82 kW of power and 136 Nm of torque. It is paired with a powerful electric motor that delivers 175 kW and 262 Nm, resulting in a system that feels both responsive and incredibly efficient. The specific output figures for combined system power have not been disclosed, but the performance is described as robust.

The real star of the show, however, is the battery technology. The Galaxy M7 is the first model to debut Geely’s 'Divine Shield Golden Brick' battery. This is a bespoke 29.8 kWh hybrid-dedicated battery pack—the largest in its class. Through clever cell arrangement, the pack achieves a 5% improvement in spatial utilization, allowing for three extra kilowatt-hours of energy compared to competitors, which directly translates to an additional 25 km of pure electric range.

Supporting the battery is the 'Thunderbolt' 11-in-1 highly integrated e-drive system, which boasts a combined system efficiency of 93.1%. The 1.5-liter engine itself is a marvel of engineering, holding the industry’s highest mass-production thermal efficiency record at 47.26%. To manage all this energy intelligently, the M7 utilizes the 'Starry AI Cloud Power 2.0' system, which can reduce overall fuel consumption by 15%, cut thermal management power consumption by 30%, and improve overall energy efficiency by 5%. The result is a vehicle with a remarkably low fuel consumption of just 3.35 liters per 100 kilometers when the battery is depleted.

For those concerned about charging times, the Divine Shield Golden Brick battery supports ultra-fast charging, capable of going from a 30% state of charge to 80% in just 15 minutes. This drastically reduces downtime, making the M7 a practical choice for both daily commutes and long road trips.

The launch of the Geely Galaxy M7 on April 28 is more than just a product rollout; it is a strategic statement. As Geely continues to expand its Galaxy line, the M7 enters a segment that is currently the hottest in China—compact SUVs with extended-range electric capabilities. With a starting price that undercuts many of its peers while offering superior range, a luxurious interior, and a comprehensive suite of intelligent driving features, the M7 is poised to capture a significant share of the market.

In a landscape where consumers are increasingly demanding more range, better technology, and higher build quality, the Geely Galaxy M7 appears to have ticked all the boxes. The automotive world will be watching closely as it officially goes on sale, ready to see if it can live up to the lofty expectations set by its impressive specifications.
