BAIC Group has unveiled two new SUVs: the Beijing 81 and the Beijing·City Hunter. The 81, a "tactical box" off-road SUV, will start blind orders at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24 and launch on August 1 in Nanchang. The City Hunter, a "high‑stance SUV," is planned for the first half of 2027.

The 81 evolves from the BJ80, inheriting the military design heritage of the second‑generation Warrior. It features a classic five‑hole grille with red LEDs, a boxy silhouette, and 305‑mm wide tyres with six‑piston front brakes. Dimensions: 5,070 mm long, 1,975 mm wide, 1,960 mm high, 2,860 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance: 250 mm. Wading depth: 1.3 metres.

The interior retains physical buttons for climate, volume, and off‑road modes. A 10.25‑inch digital cluster shows tilt angles and altitude.
Powertrain: An extended‑range system with a 1.5T engine (138 kW) and dual motors delivers 403 kW (548 hp) and a total range of 1,200 km. Fuel and 2.3T/3.0T V6 versions may also be offered.

The 81 was developed using BAIC‘s BIP user co‑creation model, incorporating over 10,000 user suggestions — 62% of which were adopted.

The City Hunter adopts a classic "box" silhouette with a large vertical grille, adaptive LED headlights, and a high‑stance design. It combines city comfort with outdoor capability and will feature a new‑energy powertrain (EREV/BEV). More details will be revealed closer to its launch.

The Beijing 81 offers military‑grade off‑road capability with hybrid efficiency, while the City Hunter targets the premium urban SUV segment. Both models are worth watching for Hong Kong off‑road enthusiasts.
