Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new electric C-Class in a world premiere held in Seoul, marking the first time in the brand's history that a global debut has taken place in Korea. Built on the dedicated MB.EA 800V high-voltage electric platform, the launch model C 400 4MATIC offers up to 762 km of WLTP range and 330 kW DC fast charging, adding 325 km in just 10 minutes.

Seoul World Premiere: A Historic First

The premiere took place on April 20 in Seoul, with Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, along with other top executives attending. Approximately 80 international journalists were invited. Källenius stated that Korea is Mercedes-Benz‘s fifth-largest global market, and Korean customers are highly tech-savvy, making it the ideal location to showcase the brand‘s latest innovations. The C-Class is one of Mercedes-Benz’s most popular model series, and the electric version elevates its core values of elegance, comfort, intelligence, and sportiness to new heights.

Exterior: Coupé-Like Silhouette with 1,050 Illuminated Stars

The electric C-Class adopts a sleek coupé-like silhouette, with a low front end, compact roofline, and flowing rear. The wheelbase has been extended by 97 mm to 2,962 mm, and the drag coefficient is just 0.22. The front grille features 1,050 illuminated dots, which display animated sequences when the vehicle is unlocked, locked, or charged. The Digital Light headlamps improve illumination range by 40% while reducing energy consumption by 50%. The rear features a full-width LED light bar with twin-circle star-design taillights. A 101-litre front trunk is also provided.

Interior: 39.1-inch Hyperscreen with Multi-AI Integration

The cabin is dominated by a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, featuring matrix backlighting and nearly 10 million pixels. The steering wheel adopts a classic dual-three-spoke design with two-material construction. The latest MBUX system is the world‘s first in-car infotainment system to integrate ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini AI. The augmented reality head-up display enables “parking space to parking space” autonomous driving and track-back reversing. Nappa leather sport seats with “twisted diamond” stitching feature massage, ventilation, heating, and 4D sound. A panoramic sunroof with 162 star lights and a multi-source heat pump air conditioning system are also standard.

Powertrain: 482 hp, Two-Speed Transmission, 762 km WLTP Range

The C 400 4MATIC features dual electric motors producing 360 kW (482 hp) and 800 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. The rear axle incorporates a two-speed transmission — first gear for rapid starts and towing up to 1.8 tonnes, second gear for efficient highway cruising. The front axle features a disconnect unit (DCU) that reduces front-axle energy losses by up to 90% under low load. The 94 kWh battery delivers 762 km of WLTP range. The 330 kW DC fast charging system adds 325 km of range in 10 minutes and charges from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. A single-motor rear-drive variant with approximately 800 km of range will follow next year.

Chassis: AIRMATIC Air Suspension with Rear-Axle Steering

The AIRMATIC air suspension features predictive road surface memory, adjusting damping and ride height based on Car-to-X data and Google Maps. The rear-axle steering provides up to 4.5 degrees of steering angle, reducing the turning circle to 11.2 metres. The One-Box braking system delivers 300 kW of energy recuperation, maintaining efficiency even on icy roads or during ABS activation.

ADAS: 27 Sensors with “Parking Space to Parking Space” Capability

A perception system with up to 27 cameras and sensors enables “parking space to parking space” assisted driving. Standard functions include Distronic adaptive cruise control, MB.Drive Assist, and Pre-Safe Curve. Eleven airbags are standard.

China: Long-Wheelbase Version Coming This Year

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that a long-wheelbase version will be launched in China in 2026. Spy shots reveal that the Chinese version retains the overseas design, with the rear doors noticeably lengthened and the C‑pillar shifted rearward to optimise rear seat space.

Hong Kong Outlook

The electric C-Class is highly anticipated in Hong Kong, where the C-Class has long been one of the best-selling luxury sedans. Right-hand drive development is already underway, with a market launch expected in the first half of 2027. Pricing is expected to fall between HK$450,000 and HK$650,000.

Market Competition

The electric C-Class competes directly with the BMW i3 and Tesla Model 3. While the BMW i3 offers longer range (900 km) and faster charging (400 kW), the C-Class matches its efficiency (approximately 4.99 miles/kWh) and surpasses it in power (482 hp vs. 462 hp). Moreover, the C-Class differentiates itself with AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering — features not currently available on the i3.

Conclusion

The all-new electric C-Class represents the most significant technological revolution in the C‑Class‘s history. From the 800V platform and two-speed transmission to the AIRMATIC suspension and 39.1-inch Hyperscreen, the electric C-Class advances across design, space, powertrain, intelligence, range, and handling. For Hong Kong buyers, it is a landmark model in Mercedes-Benz’s electric transition and a compelling choice in the luxury mid-size electric sedan segment.
