The Yangwang U8L is a full-size executive luxury SUV from BYD's high-end brand Yangwang, positioned as the brand's flagship model. The vehicle was first introduced in September 2025, and on 5 March 2026, the 2026 Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition made its official debut at the BYD Second-Generation Blade Battery & Flash Charging Technology launch event. The official retail price for the 2026 Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition starts from RM1,300,000. The Yangwang U8L primarily targets high-end business elites and entrepreneurs in China, directly rivalling traditional luxury flagship SUVs like the Land Rover Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7.

Design Language
In terms of exterior styling, the Yangwang U8L continues the brand's signature design language inspired by the ancient Chinese "Ding" vessel. The front fascia features an imposing and stately "Ding"-shaped motif. The exterior is finished in a dual-tone Obsidian Black and Sun Gold colour scheme, with both front and rear emblems crafted from authentic 24K gold to enhance its exclusivity and road presence. Dimension-wise, it measures 5,400 mm in length, 2,049 mm in width, and 1,921 mm in height, with an extensive wheelbase of 3,250 mm. Compared to the Yangwang U8 Deluxe Edition, the overall length has grown by 81 mm, while the wheelbase has been stretched by 200 mm. The rear omits the exterior tailgate-mounted spare tyre in favour of a standard split-folding powered tailgate—the upper section requires minimal clearance when opened, while the fold-down lower section can bear a load of up to 200 kg. Inside, the U8L offers two-tone interior colourways including White/Purple and Black/Brown. The dashboard houses a seamless multi-screen layout comprising a 23.6-inch full digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 23.6-inch front passenger entertainment display. The seats feature diamond-quilted stitching, complemented by ultra-premium materials throughout the cabin such as rare teak wood, black walnut wood, genuine pure wool floor mats, and a suede roof headliner.
Powertrain and Performance
The Yangwang U8L is powered by the "e4" quad-motor drive system, pairing a 2.0T turbocharged range-extender petrol engine with four permanent magnet synchronous electric motors at the front and rear axles. The powertrain delivers a massive combined output of 880 kW (approx. 1,200 PS) and a peak torque of 1,520 Nm. The official 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in just 3.5 seconds. For energy storage, the 2026 model packs BYD's second-generation Blade Battery with a capacity of 56.58 kWh. It delivers a CLTC pure electric range of 230 km, which extends to a total CLTC combined cruising range of 1,205 km in tandem with its 90-litre fuel tank. On the charging front, the vehicle supports flash charging technology, juicing up from 10% to 70% in just around 5 minutes, and 10% to 97% in roughly 9 minutes—requiring only 3 extra minutes even in freezing conditions of -30°C. The range extender is compatible with RON 92 petrol.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinning the Yangwang U8L is a front and rear double-wishbone independent suspension setup, complete with front and rear axle differential locks. It is equipped with the DiSus-P+ Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control System, debuting dual-solenoid valve adaptive dampers to effectively soak up road bumps and suppress body roll, significantly elevating ride comfort while retaining rugged off-road prowess. The suspension travel can be adjusted by up to 150 mm, featuring three selectable levels of stiffness. A newly added central split rear-wheel steering system trims the turning radius of this full-size SUV down to just 5.45 metres. The vehicle also boasts four-wheel independent torque vectoring control. Braking is handled by front and rear carbon ceramic ventilated disc brakes.
Cabin and Equipment
The cabin is the defining highlight of the Yangwang U8L, featuring a "2+2+2" six-seater executive layout with a class-leading 5.3 m³ of cabin volume. The second row features dual executive zero-gravity captain seats upholstered in Nappa leather, offering up to a 150° recline angle, 18-point massage, extended powered heated calf rests, and a dedicated right rear footrest. The seats also incorporate intelligent temperature-sensing armrests with adaptive climate regulation. Rear occupants enjoy a 21.4-inch motorized roof-mounted drop-down screen with 5-stage electric angle adjustment from 90° to 110°. Audio is delivered via a 32-speaker Dynaudio Platinum Evidence series Hi-End sound system. The cabin is further appointed with an intelligent cooling/heating refrigerator (-6°C to 15°C cooling, 35°C to 50°C heating), 128-colour ambient surround lighting, and a solar-term-inspired smart fragrance system. It marks the world's first mass-production deployment of a 3nm automotive-grade intelligent cockpit chip. Also fitted are all-scenario smart electrochromic privacy windows with 11-level tint adjustment and individual pane control. The front doors are power-operated, supporting knock-to-open/close and automatic closing upon depressing the brake pedal. Furthermore, an active anti-motion sickness system coordinates the chassis, climate control, fragrance system, and roof display to effectively alleviate passenger travel sickness.
Safety and Intelligent Driving
Safety remains a standout strength for the Yangwang U8L, built on an industry-first all-aluminium frame using 100% aluminium, with 7-series aerospace-grade aluminium applied to key structural points via an ultra-large integrated low-pressure die-casting process. The A- and B-pillars utilise hot-stamped ultra-high-strength steel with patch-plate reinforcements. The vehicle is engineered to meet global five-star crash safety standards. It comes with a dual-spectrum (near/far) infrared night vision system capable of detecting objects up to 300 metres away. Yangwang's trademark emergency floating capability has been upgraded to automatic emergency activation for 2026—if the vehicle accidentally plunges into water, the system engages within 5 seconds while automatically rolling down the second-row windows. The high-speed blowout stability assist has also been enhanced; if a tyre blows out while driver assistance is engaged, the vehicle automatically maintains stability and safely pulls over to the shoulder. In terms of ADAS, the vehicle features the "God's Eye A" advanced intelligent driving system, powered by a triple-LiDAR suite and 40 high-precision sensors. Its capabilities cover Highway Navigation Pilot, Urban Navigation Pilot, Automated Parking, e4 Parking, and Valet Parking. Comprehensive data privacy is ensured through a multi-scenario suite combining one-touch privacy mode and smart privacy mode.
Market Performance and Reception
The Yangwang U8L marks a significant breakthrough for Chinese marques in the RM1,000,000-tier ultra-luxury vehicle segment. In the 2025 China RM1,000,000+ luxury vehicle sales chart, the Yangwang U8L took 15th place with 1,538 units, while the Yangwang U8 ranked 16th with 1,112 units, making Yangwang the sole Chinese brand on the leaderboard. Since its debut, the U8L's flagship calibre has made it the vehicle of choice for prominent Chinese corporate leaders including Fang Hongbo, Wang Bingkun, and Lin Xiaofa, as well as high-profile figures such as Yang Lan and Wu Zheng, earning it the reputation as the "CEO's Preferred Ride". The core strengths of the Yangwang U8L lie in: its cavernous executive cabin created by the 5.4-metre length and 3,250 mm wheelbase; the breathtaking performance and plush ride delivered by the e4 quad-motor system and DiSus-P+ intelligent chassis; ultra-fast turnaround times enabled by the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging; cutting-edge intelligence powered by the 3nm cockpit chip and God's Eye A ADAS suite; and unique safety innovations such as auto-activating emergency flotation and tyre blowout stability control. On the flip side, as an emerging domestic ultra-luxury brand, it still lacks the brand heritage and historical pedigree of established luxury players; its RM1,300,000 price tag hits the upper ceiling for Chinese passenger cars, meaning broader market acceptance will take time; and its overall sales volume still trails established volume leaders like the Porsche Cayenne. On the whole, with its distinctive "technological luxury" ethos, the Yangwang U8L has unlocked a compelling new competitive dimension for Chinese brands in the RM1,300,000-class full-size executive luxury SUV segment.
