Venucia D60

2026-09-29 16:00:01

The Venucia D60 is a C-segment sedan introduced in 2017 by Dongfeng Nissan's Venucia brand, pitched as a "high-quality intelligent connected family sedan." Its main selling point lies in sharing Nissan Sylphy’s core mechanical foundation—the HR16 naturally aspirated engine paired with an X-Tronic CVT. Backed by joint-venture engineering and an entry price hovering around the RM60,000 mark, the current 2023 model on sale remains a value-for-money, joint-venture-derived family sedan under RM100,000.

Model Overview

Positioned as a C-segment family sedan under Dongfeng Nissan Venucia, its headline specs include a 2,701 mm wheelbase, Nissan's HR16 1.6L powertrain with a CVT, a 525-litre boot, and a low rated fuel consumption of 6.18 L/100 km. The 2023 lineup comprises three variants priced between RM88,800 and RM99,800, with actual showroom prices starting from around RM60,000 after rebates. Measuring 4,761 mm long, 1,803 mm wide, and 1,487 mm tall with a 2,701 mm wheelbase, its footprint is above average in its segment. Key rivals include Chinese domestic sedans such as the Geely Emgrand, Changan Eado PLUS, and Roewe i5.

Design Language

The exterior adopts Venucia’s "Wind Sculpture Aesthetics" design language, highlighted by a low, sleek front fascia. The signature "V-Galaxy" starry radiator grille incorporates horizontal chrome detailing that flows seamlessly into slim LED headlamps on either flank. A crisp shoulder line runs from the front fenders to the rear lamps, giving the profile a leaner stance. At the rear, it features full-width LED tail lamps connected by a gloss black garnish, complemented by prominent "VENUCIA" lettering. Standard models ride on 195/60 R16 tyres, while the range-topper upgrades to 205/50 R17 units.

Inside, the cabin features an asymmetrical wraparound layout available in all-black or two-tone blue/white upholstery schemes. The centre stack is angled slightly towards the driver and houses an 8-inch (mid-spec) or 10-inch (high-spec) touchscreen infotainment unit equipped with 4G connectivity, voice commands, Amap navigation, and OTA update capability. The flagship variant further adds a 5-inch colour multi-info display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leatherette seats.

Powertrain Performance

Power comes across the board from Nissan's HR16 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, equipped with DIS dual-port fuel injection and Twin C-VTC variable valve timing. It produces 90 kW (122 PS) and 155 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels via an X-Tronic CVT. Under the WLTC cycle, combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.18–6.29 L/100 km, with a top speed of 180 km/h and a 0–100 km/h sprint completed in 12 seconds. Derived from the previous-generation Nissan Sylphy, this powertrain prioritises linear power delivery, fuel economy, and proven reliability over outright performance.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the D60 features front MacPherson struts with an anti-roll bar and a rear torsion beam setup with an anti-roll bar. Steering is handled by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) rack, achieving a tight 5.2-metre minimum turning radius. Braking duties are managed by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Auto Brake Hold fitted as standard across all variants. The chassis is tuned primarily for ride comfort, doing a commendable job of soaking up road imperfections.

Cabin and Features

Standard kit across the 2023 range includes a multifunction steering wheel (leather-wrapped on the top trim), leatherette upholstery, EPB, Auto Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and a reverse camera (high-spec). The range-topping Zhiling variant adds a powered sunroof, rear air vents, a 6-way powered driver's seat, a 6-speaker audio system, and cruise control. Boot space is rated at a practical and well-shaped 525 litres. Baseline models are relatively spartan, settling for a 2-speaker audio system and no central infotainment screen.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Standard active safety features across the range comprise Bosch Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), ABS with EBD, Traction Control (TCS), and Brake Assist (BA). For passive safety, base variants are equipped with only dual front airbags; the mid-spec adds front side airbags, while the flagship variant gains full-length curtain airbags. Other safety provisions include ISOFIX child seat anchor points, collision auto-unlock, and an engine immobiliser. Advanced driver assistance is limited to standard cruise control on top-spec variants, with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features omitted entirely.

Market Performance and Verdict

Leveraging its Nissan-engineered powertrain and an accessible post-discount price tag around RM60,000, the Venucia D60 enjoyed early success, recording monthly deliveries of over 7,000 units. However, monthly sales for the 2023–2024 model years have tapered off to around 2,000 units, well below its prime.

Key Strengths: Proven and bulletproof powertrain, excellent fuel economy, generous cabin room (2,701 mm wheelbase), and strong value for money after discounts.

Key Weaknesses: Weak brand equity, often perceived merely as a "budget Nissan"; outdated output figures, with its 122 PS 1.6-litre NA mill falling behind modern 1.5-litre turbocharged rivals (e.g., Changan Eado's 192 PS); basic equipment on lower trims (only 2 airbags and 2 speakers); and dated infotainment where entry-to-mid specs rely on external Wi-Fi for connectivity.

Reliability & Complaints: Data from consumer platforms such as CheZhiWang indicate owner complaints are mainly centered on shock absorber corrosion, low-speed CVT shudder, infotainment lag, and inconsistent after-sales service quality across certain 4S dealerships.

On the whole, the Venucia D60 remains a sensible, no-nonsense family sedan built on the formula of "proven joint-venture mechanicals at a budget price." It suits budget-conscious families (RM60,000–RM80,000 bracket) who prioritise cabin space, low running costs, and hassle-free maintenance over brisk performance, tech gizmos, or brand prestige. Buyers after higher equipment levels, punchier powertrains, or ADAS should cross-shop the Geely Emgrand or Changan Eado PLUS. Those with more budget to spare may also want to look at PHEVs like the BYD Qin PLUS DM-i. Buyer's tip: Go for the mid-spec Yueling Edition (RM93,800), which adds essential kit like side airbags, a touchscreen head unit, reverse camera, and cruise control over the base trim; the top-tier Zhiling Edition offers diminishing returns on value.
