The Changan Eado is a C-segment sedan under Changan Automobile, widely hailed as China's "national family sedan". Since the first-generation model debuted in March 2012, its cumulative sales have surpassed 1.9 million units over 13 years of continuous evolution. As of 2026, the model line-up has entered its fourth generation. On 7 September 2025, the fourth-generation Eado was officially launched with three variant trims, carrying an official recommended retail price range of RM87,900 to RM99,900, with a limited-time promotional launch price of RM72,900 to RM84,900 after factoring in cash rebates. In 2025, the Eado series recorded full-year sales of 168,900 units, firmly defending its crown as the best-selling Chinese-brand petrol sedan. The sedan measures 4,785 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,440 (or 1,450) mm tall, with its wheelbase yet to be disclosed. Major competitors include fellow Chinese C-segment petrol sedans such as the Geely Emgrand and SAIC Roewe i5.
The fourth-generation Eado debuts the "Boundless Universe" (Zongheng Wanxiang) design philosophy, seamlessly blending Oriental aesthetics with modern automotive styling. Up front, a parametric frameless grille integrates smoothly with full-width LED daytime running lights (DRLs), accented by an illuminated central V-badge for a sleek, contemporary aesthetic. The headlamp clusters adopt a revised dual three-spoke vertical LED signature which, together with the frameless grille, sheds the visual heaviness of conventional ICE models in favour of a cleaner, more minimalist look. Along the flanks, a segmented dual character line subtly elongates the car's visual profile. At the rear, the full-width LED taillights feature calibrated light wavelengths engineered to help trailing motorists react more quickly to braking and position changes. Inside, the new model moves away from the previous generation's portrait touchscreen in favour of a floating widescreen layout, placing the digital instrument panel closer to the steering wheel to improve driver ergonomics and visibility. The fourth-generation Eado comes equipped with the "Tianshu Yunjing" dual-screen setup, featuring a 14.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, complete with three-finger screen-swiping gesture control.
Under the bonnet, the fourth-generation Eado comes standard across the range with Changan's world-debut "New Blue Whale" 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine operating at an ultra-high 500 bar, delivering 141 kW (circa 189 hp) and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The 500-bar direct-injection system delivers finer fuel atomisation and higher thermal efficiency. Changan claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.2 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle, theoretically providing a cruising range of up to 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel. In addition, the engine is tuned to run on RON 92 petrol, further keeping daily running costs in check. Higher-spec variants of the preceding Eado PLUS were previously powered by a Blue Whale NE 1.4T engine; Changan also previously offered an Eado PHEV plug-in hybrid featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds with a combined WLTC fuel consumption of just 0.96 L/100 km.
In terms of chassis setup, the fourth-generation Eado adopts front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam suspension. While it relies on a torsion beam at the rear, fine-tuning by Changan's international vehicle dynamics team—including damper valving specifically calibrated for varied road surfaces—delivers a pliant, family-oriented ride. On the move, the suspension absorbs road imperfections effectively, maintaining a composed body posture without feeling floaty or loose. Minor road vibrations are well isolated, and secondary body rebound over larger speed bumps is kept to a minimum. A full-perimeter front subframe enhances front-end rigidity and torsional stiffness, contributing to sharper steering feedback. Rubber isolation bushings at the subframe-to-chassis mounting points effectively suppress engine NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) from penetrating the cabin. Braking duties are handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, complemented by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system provides light and accurate weighting, ensuring an effortless daily drive.
Inside, the fourth-generation Eado is the first to feature Changan's newly unveiled "Tianshu Smart Cockpit". Taking centre stage is a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen using smartphone-grade OLED display technology with 1080p resolution and full 100% sRGB colour gamut coverage. Running on Tianshu OS, the infotainment system integrates the DeepSeek AI voice assistant capable of processing complex contextual prompts with wake-word-free voice control across all driving scenarios. In addition, all variants come standard with comprehensive smartphone integration supporting Apple CarPlay, HUAWEI HiCar, Carlink, and Honor Connect across both Android and iOS platforms, allowing seamless in-car app connectivity. For added comfort, higher variants gain 256-colour ambient lighting, an 8-speaker audio system, and a 50W wireless smartphone fast-charging pad. On the practicality front, the boot offers 510 litres of cargo capacity, while the rear seats support split-folding to accommodate bulkier items.
On the safety front, the fourth-generation Eado comes standard with Changan's award-winning "Ark Cage" high-strength body structure, boasting steel with tensile strength of up to 1,500 MPa and a high-strength steel ratio of 77.2%—surpassing 90% of sedans in its segment. Six airbags are standard across the range, and the roof panel uses laser brazing technology with weld strength 3.6 times that of conventional spot welds, providing dependable passive crash protection. For active safety, selected high-spec variants are equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite, featuring Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC with full-speed follow-to-stop), Lane Change Decision Aid (LCDA blind-spot monitoring via side mirror indicators), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) to alleviate long-distance driving fatigue and guard against sudden blind-spot hazards. Furthermore, a 540-degree HD panoramic camera system (comprising a 360-degree surround-view monitor with a 180-degree transparent underfloor view) and an integrated HD dashcam come standard across all variants, giving drivers a clear view around and underneath the car to negotiate tight spots with ease.
As a cornerstone of the Chinese petrol sedan segment, the Changan Eado continues to deliver strong market figures. In 2025, total annual deliveries reached 168,949 units, comfortably defending its title as the best-selling Chinese-brand petrol sedan for the calendar year and over the preceding 12-month period. From January to April 2026, cumulative sales reached 36,225 units, with April alone accounting for 7,193 units—placing 25th on the overall sedan sales leaderboard while firmly retaining the top spot among homegrown petrol sedans. Owner feedback remains largely positive, averaging roughly 4.35 out of 5 stars. Praise centres on three key aspects: well-sorted chassis tuning that balances comfort and body control, an upgraded AI-powered smart cockpit experience, and the 1.5T New Blue Whale powertrain's sweet spot between punchy performance and fuel frugality. Areas for improvement mainly include the rear torsion beam's composure over sharper road ruts, along with room for refinement in select cabin trim plastics. Despite the market's rapid shift towards new energy vehicles, Changan's dual-track "ICE + NEV" strategy continues to anchor the Eado's position as a dependable family car, proving there is still robust market demand for well-engineered petrol sedans.
