Design Language
The Roewe D5X DMH adopts an all-new design language officially dubbed "Pure and Elegant". Up front, the styling draws inspiration from the flying eaves and upright columns of classical Chinese architecture, featuring a closed-off front grille, a full-width LED light bar, and split headlamp clusters. The vertical light units flanking the front bumper reflect architectural "columns", while the continuous light strip mimics "flying eaves", blending cultural cues with modern automotive tech. Along the sides, the SUV sports a clean profile complemented by flush pop-out door handles, five-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, and black garnish integrated into the C-pillars. Around the back, the full-width tail lamp assembly flares out at both ends, featuring "X"-shaped lighting graphics that divide the light units into distinct segments. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,700 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,664 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. Wheel sizes are available in standard 19-inch and optional 20-inch setups.
Inside, the cabin features a dual-tone black-and-white colourway, generously trimmed with soft-touch plastics, suede-like upholstery, and contrast stitching across the dashboard, highlighted by multi-colour LED ambient lighting. The dashboard adopts a clean horizontal layout, anchored by a 24.6-inch integrated dual floating screen setup (reported by some sources as dual 12.3-inch displays). The two-spoke dual-tone steering wheel takes on a "D"-profile design, echoing its Roewe "D Family" pedigree. Gear selection is handled via a sleek metallic electronic shift lever.
Powertrain & Performance
Under the bonnet, the Roewe D5X DMH is powered by the 1.5T DMH Super Hybrid system, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged dedicated hybrid engine with high-efficiency dual electric motors. The petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 110 kW (approx. 150 PS) and 235 Nm of peak torque; it features variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) technology, achieving an impressive thermal efficiency of 42% to 43%. For electric propulsion, it utilises a P1+P3 dual-motor architecture—the P1 motor produces 110 kW/120 Nm, while the P3 drive motor puts out 145 kW/350 Nm (separate specifications also list the drive motor at 153 kW). The combined powertrain allows the SUV to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.9 seconds, on to a top speed of 200 km/h.
In terms of electric range and battery capacity, the entire range comes standard with a 21.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack (cells supplied by Jiexin Power). It yields a CLTC pure electric range of 135 km and a CLTC combined range of 1,300 km. In real-world round-island endurance tests across Hainan, the Roewe D5X DMH achieved a real-world combined range of 1,621 km. Under the WLTC cycle, its combined fuel consumption is rated as low as 1.27 L/100 km, with a CLTC fuel consumption of 4.62 L/100 km in battery-depleted mode. For DC fast charging, a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes roughly 30 minutes. The vehicle also features a 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power discharge function and runs on minimum RON 92 petrol.
Chassis and Handling
On the chassis front, the Roewe D5X DMH features a front MacPherson strut independent suspension paired with a rear four-link independent suspension setup. The chassis calibration balances ride comfort with dynamic poise, delivering steady high-speed composure, effectively checking body roll during cornering, and providing supple bump absorption over uneven gravel roads. Steering is managed by a dual-pinion electric power steering (DP-EPS) system with a turning radius of 5.7 m. It operates on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Braking is handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs. It rides on 225/55 R19 tyres, with a vehicle kerb weight of 1,880 kg.

For in-car connectivity, the Roewe D5X DMH is equipped with the latest Zebra Zhixing infotainment operating system. The system supports continuous voice recognition, seamless phone-to-car navigation transfer, EV charging station mapping and energy management, as well as live navigation updates. The infotainment user interface utilises an intuitive card-based layout for seamless operation.
In terms of passenger comfort, the Roewe D5X DMH comes standard across all variants with the "Cloud Stay" intelligent cabin. The seats feature a thickened 20 mm high-density soft foam layer, with the front seats offering 3-stage heating. Rear cabin space is generous—offering 976 mm of second-row legroom, 965 mm of headroom, and 120 mm of knee room. Refinement is bolstered by a five-pillar acoustic packaging design incorporating sound insulation across 42 strategic points throughout the vehicle. Boot capacity stands at 507 litres, expandable to 1,484 litres with the rear seats folded flat. A wireless smartphone charging pad is also fitted.
Safety and Intelligent Driving
Safety-wise, the Roewe D5X DMH is engineered around a new-generation ultra-high-strength safety cage body structure, comprising 79% high-strength steel, 44% ultra-high-strength steel, and 12.4% hot-stamped thermoformed steel. Functions include Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Intelligent Cruise Assist (ICA), full-speed adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA). Furthermore, the vehicle comes with a 540° panoramic camera system (featuring a transparent chassis function).
Market Performance and Reception
The Roewe D5X DMH saw a respectable start upon its market debut—clocking 1,994 units in May 2024 during its initial launch month. However, sales momentum subsequently slowed: total annual deliveries in 2025 reached 3,257 units, with December 2025 recording just 98 units; cumulative sales across January and February 2026 stood at only 30 units, with April 2026 sales also logging 30 units. As of early 2026, cumulative sales reached approximately 8,092 units.
Market commentary indicates that the Roewe D5X DMH benefits from attractive pricing, with its 135 km electric range and 1,300 km combined cruising range giving it a competitive edge in its class. However, some reviews have pointed out equipment compromises on lower trim levels—such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) being exclusive to the range-topping variant, while the Luxury Edition lacks front and rear curtain airbags; additionally, brand perception regarding Roewe's long-term build quality may have weighed on its reception. Overall, leveraging key selling points such as its 1.5T DMH Super Hybrid system, 6.9-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, 135 km EV range, 1,300 km total range, Level 2 ADAS, and 79% high-strength steel chassis, the Roewe D5X DMH establishes a distinct value proposition in the RM100,000 to RM150,000 plug-in hybrid compact SUV segment; nevertheless, constrained by brand equity, trim packaging strategies, and aggressive market competition, substantial headroom remains for sales improvement.
