In November 2025, BYD introduced fresh exterior colour options alongside an OTA update, bringing post-subsidy prices down to RM194,800–RM264,800. Serving as the flagship saloon of the Dynasty Series, the Han L boasts larger exterior dimensions than the standard Han, putting it in direct competition with the likes of the Xiaomi SU7, Voyah Passion, and Avatr 12.

Design Language

The Han L showcases BYD's upgraded 'Loong Face' 3.0 design language. The front fascia features a full-width chrome strip linking matrix LED headlights, whilst the front bumper integrates active air intake shutters with signature 'Dragon Whisker' design accents. In profile, the car sports prominent dual character lines, flush pop-out door handles, and a distinctive L-shaped motif on the C-pillar. The rear is defined by full-width LED taillights featuring a 'Phoenix Feather' light signature, complemented by an illuminated 'BYD' badge. In terms of dimensions, the car measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,505 mm in height, with a 2,970 mm wheelbase—marking gains of 55 mm in length, 50 mm in width, 10 mm in height, and 50 mm in wheelbase over the regular Han. Exterior paint options include Ink Bamboo Green, Flowing Light Silver, Blade Grey, and Xuanjia Black, all drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese porcelain, with Olive Green and Xizi Blue added to the palette in November 2025. The cabin draws inspiration from traditional 'Wudian' palace roof architecture, featuring authentic bamboo and wood trim across the dashboard and door panels, complemented by extensive premium leather upholstery. Technology highlights include a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen, and a column-mounted electronic gear selector.

Powertrain and Performance

The Han L is offered with a choice of pure electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, delivering formidable performance figures.

Pure Electric Version (Han L EV) Underpinned by the Super e-Platform, it utilizes the world's first mass-produced 1,000V high-voltage architecture for passenger cars, paired with flash-charging battery technology and an ultra-high-speed 30,000 rpm electric motor. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant features a 500 kW motor, whilst the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant pairs a 230 kW front motor with a 580 kW rear motor to deliver a staggering combined system output of 810 kW (approx. 1,102 hp). The AWD model sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, on to a top speed of 305 km/h. All EV variants pack an 83.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) flash-charging battery, returning a CLTC driving range of 701 km on RWD models and 601 km on AWD variants. On the charging front, peak DC charging power reaches up to 1,000 kW, enabling a 400 km range top-up in just 5 minutes for a true 'megawatt flash charge, as fast as refuelling' experience. This electric drive unit was awarded the 'China Heart' 2025 Top Ten New Energy Vehicle Powertrain title.

Plug-in Hybrid Version (Han L DM) Powered by BYD's 5th-generation DM powertrain technology (spanning DM-i super hybrid and DM-p performance hybrid configurations). The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine develops 115 kW with a thermal efficiency of 45.3%. The front-wheel-drive DM-i features a 200 kW electric motor, capable of a 0–100 km/h sprint in 6.9 seconds; meanwhile, the DM-p AWD variant utilizes dual 200 kW motors front and rear for a combined 400 kW, completing the 0–100 km/h run in just 3.9 seconds. Paired with a 29.4 kWh LFP Blade Battery, it offers a CLTC pure-electric range of 200 km (2WD) and 180 km (AWD). Total cruising range on a full tank and full charge exceeds 1,500 km, with depleted-battery fuel consumption rated as low as 3.9 L/100 km.

Chassis and Handling

The Han L comes standard with BYD's Intelligent Chassis system across all variants, utilizing an advanced setup of front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension. Also standard across the entire range are the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system and DiSus road preview system, which uses forward-facing cameras to scan the road surface and adjust damping in real time, virtually eliminating pitch during hard acceleration and braking to effectively curb motion sickness in electric vehicles. Furthermore, dynamic systems such as iTAC (intelligent Torque Adaptation Control), iCCT (intelligent Comfort Control Technology), and iCVC (intelligent Chassis Vectoring Control) are fitted to comprehensively enhance handling stability and ride refinement.

Cabin and Features

The Han L comes standard with the high-spec DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system, powered by an advanced 4 nm chipset, offering full compatibility with the Android app ecosystem and integrated with the full-featured DeepSeek R1 large language AI model. The system supports full-scenario voice control, 5G high-speed connectivity, and digital smartphone key functions. On the comfort front, a panoramic glass roof, active fragrance dispenser, and a dedicated rear climate touchscreen are standard across the board; front seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Higher-spec variants add a W-HUD head-up display, a 16-speaker Dynaudio premium sound system, genuine 3D bamboo and wood cabin trims, rear-seat massage, and an on-board dual-temperature refrigerator. The Han L also boasts the world's largest front boot (frunk) on a passenger car, offering 160 litres of cargo space.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Autonomous driving assistance is one of the marquee highlights of the Han L. The entire lineup is equipped with the God's Eye B-Advanced Smart Driving LiDAR Edition (DiPilot 300) as standard, packing 1 LiDAR sensor, 5 millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and an array of high-definition cameras. Powered by the NVIDIA Orin-X computing platform with 254 TOPS of processing power, it supports Highway NOA and Urban NOA navigation on autopilot. Following the November 2025 OTA update, the system unlocked a new 'parking bay to parking bay' pilot assist capability—allowing the vehicle to autonomously leave a parking lot, negotiate boom barriers, and locate and reverse into a parking space upon reaching the destination. Its automated parking suite can handle more than 300 distinct parking scenarios. Active safety equipment includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). In February 2026, the Han L received its fourth OTA update, upgrading the driver assistance system to God's Eye 5.0.

Market Performance and Reception

Despite high anticipation upon its debut, the Han L's market trajectory has seen a 'strong start followed by a steady drop'. Monthly sales hovered around 4,000 units during its initial launch phase; by June 2025, hybrid deliveries slipped below 1,000 units while the pure EV variant accounted for over 3,000 units; monthly sales declined further to 2,077 units in November 2025; and by April 2026, Han L DM sales dropped to just 128 units. Industry analysts note that while the Han L consolidates the very best of BYD's latest engineering, it has struggled to replicate the resounding commercial success previously enjoyed by the standard Han in the executive segment.

Among owners and motoring media, the Han L's core innovations—namely its megawatt flash charging, 1,000+ hp output, DiSus-C chassis, and DiLink 150 smart cabin—have earned widespread critical acclaim. The AWD variant with its 2.7-second 0–100 km/h acceleration was widely heralded as "quite possibly the most affordable sub-3-second production car on the market". The generous 'high-spec as standard' product strategy, which provides LiDAR-based smart driving and the DiSus-C chassis even on entry-level models, has also won high praise. On the other hand, criticisms have mostly centred around styling polarities and intense market competition. Overall, anchored by the technical suite of 'Super e-Platform + 5th-Gen DM + God's Eye ADAS + DiSus-C Chassis', the Han L brings supercar-rivalling power, rapid charging, and executive-class luxury to the RM200,000–RM280,000 segment, proving BYD's flagship engineering capabilities whilst highlighting the fierce hurdles faced by Chinese brands in sustaining a foothold in the high-end sedan arena.
