Third-generation Mazda CX-5 launched in Hong Kong from HK$280,000, with 15-inch touchscreen

The new-generation Mazda CX-5 has launched in Hong Kong, with prices starting at HK$280,000. Local distributor Vang Iek Motors has put the SUV on display at its Kowloon Bay showroom.

The third-generation model brings a more substantial redesign, and much of the focus is on what has changed inside. It gets a 15-inch central touchscreen – the largest ever fitted to a Mazda – and more boot space than before. The Hong Kong line-up is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine.

Exterior

The exterior features a new interpretation of Mazda's Kodo design language. A new wing-shaped grille and wider proportions give the CX-5 a more aggressive front-end appearance.

There are several paint options for Hong Kong buyers, including the new Rhodium White Metallic, Soul Red Crystal and Machine Grey.

Rhodium White Metallic and Soul Red Crystal cost an additional HK$8,500, while Machine Grey adds HK$6,400 to the price.

Interior

Inside, the new 15-inch touchscreen is paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. The latter shows information such as speed, cruise control status and alerts from the i-Activsense driver assistance systems.

The boot is also larger, with capacity increasing from 442 litres to 466 litres. Folding the rear seats expands the load space to 2,019 litres. The 40:20:40 split-folding arrangement offers more flexibility. The 2.5 i-Plus variant also gets a 12-speaker Bose sound system.

Powertrain

For Hong Kong, the new CX-5 uses a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 140PS and 236Nm of torque.

Mi-Drive offers a choice of driving modes, including Sport, while Mazda's SKYACTIV technology and G-Vectoring Control Plus are carried over to help balance handling stability and ride comfort.

The CX-5 has surpassed five million sales worldwide, making it one of Mazda's most important global models.

The latest generation builds on that success with improvements to cabin technology and practicality. However, the Hong Kong version does not offer a hybrid powertrain, sticking with the 2.5-litre petrol engine.

The new CX-5 is now on display at Vang Iek Motors' showroom at G/F, 15 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay.
