Honda marks 500th F1 race at US Grand Prix with special Aston Martin livery

Honda will reach its 500th Formula 1 race at this weekend's United States Grand Prix, taking place from 23 to 25 October 2026. To mark the occasion, both Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team cars will carry special "Honda500" commemorative logos.

The milestone comes 62 years after Honda made its F1 debut in 1964, with the Japanese manufacturer having competed both as a works team and an engine supplier over the decades.

62-year history in Formula 1

Honda first entered Formula 1 in 1964, developing both its own engines and chassis. Just a year later, Richie Ginther gave the manufacturer its first victory at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix, driving the Honda RA272.

Since then, Honda has left and returned to the championship several times, enjoying some of its greatest successes as an engine supplier to Williams, McLaren and Red Bull Racing.

Across its F1 history, Honda has contributed to six Drivers' Championships and six Constructors' Championships, making it one of the sport's most successful engine manufacturers.

How Honda is celebrating its 500th F1 race

Honda has planned several activities and special items to commemorate the milestone at the United States Grand Prix.

Both AMR26 cars, driven by Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, will feature a special "Honda500" logo bearing the years "1964–2026". Honda Racing Corporation engineers will also wear specially designed uniforms featuring the same emblem.

Fans in Japan will be able to purchase limited-edition merchandise, including keyrings, stickers and clothing. Honda has also launched a dedicated commemorative website looking back at its 500-race history.

A new chapter with Aston Martin

The 2026 season marks the beginning of Honda's new works partnership with Aston Martin, with the Japanese manufacturer supplying power units to the British team.

This year's major regulation changes have placed greater emphasis on electrical power, making power unit performance an important factor in Aston Martin's competitiveness.

With 18 rounds completed, the United States Grand Prix will be the 19th race of the 2026 season. Alonso and Stroll will once again take to the track in the AMR26.

From the RA272's first victory in 1965 to McLaren-Honda's dominance in the late 1980s and Max Verstappen's championship-winning 2021 season, Honda has played a part in some of Formula 1's most memorable moments.

This weekend's race in Austin adds another milestone to that history. Fans watching the United States Grand Prix can look out for the special "Honda500" logos on the Aston Martin cars as Honda celebrates its 500th F1 appearance.
