BMW M2 Racing open for booking in Hong Kong: 313hp, from HK$1.15 million, strictly for the track

BMW Hong Kong has opened orders for the new BMW M2 Racing, an entry-level customer race car developed by BMW M Motorsport. Priced from HK$1,150,000, it features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 313 hp and a top speed of more than 270 km/h.

Unlike the road-going BMW M2, the M2 Racing is built exclusively for circuit use and cannot be registered or licensed for use on public roads in Hong Kong.

BMW Hong Kong has confirmed that local customers can now order the M2 Racing directly through its official sales network. Designed for private racing teams and enthusiasts, the car is much more than a standard M2 fitted with racing bodywork. Its engine, chassis and safety equipment have all been developed specifically for motorsport.

BMW Hong Kong will also handle the ordering and delivery process with BMW M Motorsport in Germany, so customers will not need to arrange the overseas purchase or coordinate with the factory themselves.

2.0-litre turbo engine produces 313 hp and 420 Nm

Despite sharing its name with the road-going M2, the BMW M2 Racing has a different brief.

Under the bonnet is a motorsport-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four producing 313hp and 420Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a seven-speed ZF automatic gearbox, with control software developed by BMW M Motorsport. Top speed exceeds 270 km/h.

Rather than chasing outright horsepower, BMW has focused on making the M2 Racing reliable, manageable and relatively affordable to run over extended periods of track use.

It follows a line of customer race cars that includes the BMW M235i Racing, M240i Racing and M2 CS Racing. Drawing on its experience with those models, BMW M Motorsport has developed the new M2 Racing to give private teams and amateur racers a more accessible route into circuit racing, without the running costs associated with more powerful competition cars.

Race-ready chassis with KW suspension and limited-slip differential

For a car designed to spend its life on a circuit, handling and consistency matter just as much as engine output.

The BMW M2 Racing comes with a mechanical limited-slip differential, tuned by BMW M Motorsport and fitted with its own cooling system to cope with sustained track use. It also retains the road-going M2's 10-stage adjustable M Traction Control system, allowing drivers to fine-tune the level of intervention.

KW Motorsport racing dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars are standard, giving teams scope to tailor the suspension setup to different circuits and driving styles.

BMW M compound brakes are also fitted as standard, providing the stopping power needed for repeated high-speed braking.

Together, these components are intended to make the M2 Racing predictable and consistent on track, particularly during longer sessions when tyres, brakes and other components are under sustained load.

FIA-spec safety equipment, with air conditioning retained

Inside, the M2 Racing has been stripped back and equipped for competition rather than everyday driving.

A full FIA-compliant roll cage, fire-extinguishing system and Sabelt GT-AM racing seat are fitted as standard.

One feature that has survived the conversion into a race car is air conditioning.

That may sound like a luxury in a competition car, but it can make a real difference during long track sessions, helping drivers stay comfortable and focused in high temperatures. It should be particularly welcome at circuits in hot and humid parts of Asia.

Hong Kong price starts at HK$1.15 million, but it is not road legal

The BMW M2 Racing is now available to order in Hong Kong, with prices starting from HK$1,150,000.

Buyers should be aware that this is a purpose-built race car, not a road-legal version of the BMW M2. It cannot be registered or licensed for public-road use in Hong Kong, meaning owners will need to keep it for circuit driving, competition or private collection.

The purchase price is also only part of the cost of running a race car. Transport, servicing, tyres, track access and race entry fees all need to be factored in. BMW M Motorsport has therefore placed particular emphasis on durability and keeping operating costs manageable.

For Hong Kong customers, BMW Hong Kong will provide a one-stop ordering service, handling the purchase through BMW M Motorsport in Germany, factory coordination and local delivery arrangements.

Actual delivery dates will depend on BMW M Motorsport's global production schedule and vehicle allocations.
