2026 Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship heads to Hong Kong on 17–18 October, with XPENG P7 as official competition car

The 2026 Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship (AAGC) will make its Hong Kong debut on 17–18 October at the Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space.

The Hong Kong Automobile Association (HKAA) has announced a six-driver team, comprising five men and one woman, who will compete against drivers from across Asia.

The XPENG P7 has also been selected as the official competition car for the Hong Kong round.

Six drivers selected to represent Hong Kong

Hong Kong's representatives were chosen following a qualifying event held on 12 July at the Haiquan Bay Driving Training Centre in Zhuhai.

In the men's category, Li Tik Shun finished first, followed by Yeung Pak Hang in second and Wong San Kit in third. Chan Chun Man and Lo Kwan Kit secured fourth and fifth places respectively.

Leung Huen Yan won the women's category, earning the remaining place on the Hong Kong team.

The six drivers will now compete on home ground against competitors from other Asian regions.

What is auto gymkhana?

Auto gymkhana is a timed motorsport discipline in which drivers navigate a course marked out by traffic cones. Competitors must follow a set route, negotiating tight turns, slaloms and other manoeuvres as quickly as possible.

Penalties may be added for hitting cones or taking the wrong route.

Unlike conventional circuit racing, gymkhana places greater emphasis on precision, car control and choosing the right line than outright speed. With courses typically laid out in confined spaces, drivers need quick steering inputs, good timing and the ability to make split-second decisions.

The 2026 AAGC is a regional competition recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), with rounds held across Asia. This year marks the first time Hong Kong has hosted a round of the championship.

XPENG P7 chosen as official competition car

The XPENG P7 will be used as the official competition car for the Hong Kong stage. According to reports, it is also the first mass-produced electric vehicle to be used in the championship.

Using identical cars helps limit the performance differences between vehicles, placing more emphasis on the drivers' abilities.

The P7's instant electric motor response will be put to the test on a course involving tight turns, rapid changes of direction and repeated braking. For Hong Kong EV enthusiasts, the event will also offer a chance to see how a production electric car performs in a competitive driving environment.
