This marks the first-ever full-size SUV developed entirely in-house in the 59-year history of the AMG brand, powered by three axial-flux electric motors churning out a peak output of 1,153 hp, sprinting from 0-96 km/h in a mere 2.4 seconds.

Three Variants on Offer, Entry-Level Packs 536 hp

Built on the AMG.EA high-performance architecture, the new model is the second vehicle underpinned by this dedicated EV platform (following the AMG GT 4-door pure electric sports car revealed in May this year). Three variants will be available at launch:

The flagship GT 63 completes the 0-96 km/h sprint in just 2.4 seconds and hits 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, with top speed electronically capped at 270 km/h. Crucially, its continuous output reaches an astonishing 711 hp, setting a new benchmark for the segment——ensuring sustained, hard driving without any risk of thermal de-rating or power fade.

710 kW Ultra-Fast Charging: 450 km Added in Just 10 Minutes

Battery technology sits right at the heart of this newcomer. Leveraging F1-derived tech, the 800V high-voltage battery pack features directly liquid-cooled cylindrical cells:

• The GT 63 and GT 55 house a 128 kWh battery pack supporting DC fast-charging capacities of up to 710 kW, delivering 450 km of range (WLTP) in just 10 minutes, with a 10%-80% state of charge accomplished in a mere 12 minutes.
• The GT 53 is fitted with a 106 kWh battery pack with a charging capacity of 600 kW, recovering 380 km of range in 10 minutes.
• Maximum range is rated at up to 700 km (WLTP).

By comparison, Tesla V4 Superchargers deliver roughly 350 kW, whilst the all-electric Porsche Cayenne peaks around 400 kW——making the AMG GT SUV's 710 kW capability virtually double that of its closest rivals.

Cutting-Edge Chassis Tech: Active Pitch and Roll Stabilisation

Underneath, the new model adopts the newly developed AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension, debuting active pitch and roll stabilisation. By replacing conventional anti-roll bars with advanced hydraulic actuators, body roll is virtually eliminated during hard cornering, while nose-dive under braking and squat under hard acceleration are thoroughly held in check.

Other chassis highlights include:

• Active rear-axle steering (up to 6 degrees, virtually shortening the wheelbase at low speeds for agility and enhancing high-speed stability).
• AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive.
• Carbon-ceramic braking system fitted as standard on the GT 63.

Acoustic Soundstage: Authentic Field Recordings, Not Synthesised Tones

Worried that an EV lacks engine drama? AMG has that well covered. The AMGFORCE Sport+ drive mode delivers an authentic AMG V8 (GT 63/55) or straight-six (GT 53) exhaust note——composed from real engine sounds captured across more than 100 test runs via 16 dedicated microphones, rather than synthetic artificial noise. Combined with simulated gear shifts, haptic seat feedback, and bespoke instrument cluster displays, it delivers a deeply engaging and visceral driving experience.

Launch Timing and Market Rivals

The all-new model is slated to go on sale in the US in the summer of 2027 (as a 2028 model year vehicle), with initial European customer deliveries expected in early 2027. Positioned as an executive high-performance pure electric SUV, it will go head-to-head against the Lotus Eletre and the upcoming all-electric Porsche Cayenne.

The arrival of the AMG GT SUV signals that competition in the high-performance electric SUV arena has entered an entirely new chapter. While Porsche remains at 400 kW charging, AMG has leapfrogged the field straight to 710 kW——an emphatic statement of what happens when a dedicated performance marque takes on electrification.
