Model Overview

The WEY Gaoshan is the first mid-to-large new energy MPV launched by Great Wall Motor's premium sub-brand, WEY. Positioned as the "Chinese Family Flagship MPV", it is tailored for both private family and executive business applications. Officially launched on 13 May 2025, the lineup offers three variants—Gaoshan 7, Gaoshan 8, and Gaoshan 9—priced between RM272,800 and RM353,800. The Gaoshan 7 measures 5,050 mm in length with a 3,085 mm wheelbase in a 7-seater layout; the Gaoshan 8 stretches to 5,280 mm with a 3,145 mm wheelbase, also in a 7-seater configuration; while the Gaoshan 9 measures 5,410 mm with a 3,275 mm wheelbase, featuring an ultra-spacious 6-seater setup. Key rivals include the Toyota Sienna and Denza D9.

Design Language

The WEY Gaoshan adopts the "High Mountains and Flowing Water" design philosophy, featuring a front grille with 24 vertical chrome slats dubbed the "Mountain Waterfall" fascia, which mimics cascading water while blending traditional Chinese aesthetic elements with parametric technology. Flanking the grille are integrated "Galaxy Streamer" LED matrix headlamps, while chrome accents on the lower bumper visually lower the vehicle's centre of gravity to project a commanding road presence. Along the flanks, blacked-out D-pillars create a floating roof effect, complemented by a continuous "Skyline Waistline" running from the headlamps to the rear. At the back, the "Pine Forest and Bamboo Shadow" full-width LED taillights feature light signatures inspired by interlaced bamboo segments. Inside, the cabin draws inspiration from the upturned eaves of traditional Huizhou architecture, incorporating a dual-screen dashboard alongside Nappa leather upholstery, wood trim inserts, and 128-colour ambient lighting for a modern Chinese luxury ambiance.

Powertrain and Performance

The entire range comes standard with the Hi4 Performance Edition intelligent all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system, comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine (170 hp, 245 Nm), front and rear electric motors, and a 4-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). It delivers a combined system output of 337 kW (approx. 458 hp) and 644 Nm of torque, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds. In terms of battery capacity, the Gaoshan 7 and 8 are equipped with a 44.28 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a WLTC pure electric range of 172 km, a total combined range of 945 km, and a depleted-battery fuel consumption of 7.15 L/100 km; the Gaoshan 9 extends pure EV range to 201 km and total range to 963 km. Via DC fast charging, replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% takes just 26 minutes, and it comes standard with a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply function to support outdoor lifestyle appliances. The entire lineup runs on RON 92 petrol, boasting an impressive WLTC combined fuel consumption of just 0.9 L/100 km.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the chassis employs a high-grade suspension setup featuring front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link (five-link) independent suspension, with the rear suspension crafted entirely from lightweight aluminium to reduce unsprung mass and sharpen dynamic handling. Thanks to the compact geometry of the five-link rear setup and Hydraulic Rebound Stop (HRS) damper technology, the vehicle delivers composed bump absorption over speed bumps and rough road surfaces, offering class-leading body roll control. Steering duties are handled by a Rack-assisted Electric Power Steering (R-EPS) system, which, paired with a tight 5.7-metre turning radius, ensures effortless manoeuvrability during U-turns and in tight parking spaces. The braking system utilises ONEBOX integrated electro-hydraulic braking, offering selectable drive modes including Eco, Standard, Sport, and Snow, alongside a 3-level adjustable regenerative braking system.

Cabin and Features

Inside, the Gaoshan comes standard with a multi-screen digital cockpit comprising a dual 15.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment and front passenger display setup, a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, and a 26-inch SR-HUD head-up display. The infotainment system runs on Coffee OS 3.2 powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, supporting the Coffee GPT AI large language model, six-zone voice recognition, and gesture control. The second row is fitted with floating zero-gravity Nappa leather captain chairs (with an ergonomic 127° torso-to-thigh angle) featuring heating, ventilation, and massage functions as standard across the range, while the Gaoshan 9 offers optional airline-style seats with one-touch lie-flat capability. The third-row seats also feature heating and ventilation, with the second and third rows sharing an integrated floor rail system to maximise legroom flexibility. Rear occupants also benefit from a standard roof-mounted 17.3-inch 3K entertainment screen and a 12.5-litre intelligent heating and cooling fridge (-6°C to 50°C), while audio is delivered via a 23-speaker premium sound system (7.1.4-channel layout, 2,440W peak output), complemented by 64-colour ambient lighting. Boot capacity ranges from 435 to 1,010 litres, accompanied by standard dual power-sliding doors and a powered tailgate.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Safety and intelligent driving technologies are standout highlights. The vehicle is equipped with the Coffee Pilot Ultra 3rd-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), powered by an NVIDIA Orin-X chip and a suite of 27 high-precision sensors, including 1 128-line LiDAR, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 3 millimetre-wave radars. It supports mapless, full-scenario Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) across highways and urban streets, handling complex driving tasks such as adaptive car-following, automated lane changes and overtaking, traffic light recognition, intersection navigation, and obstacle avoidance. Parking assistance features cover all-scenario automated parking, remote parking, and memory parking, accommodating over 200 parking bay types including perpendicular, parallel, and unmarked bays. In terms of safety engineering, Great Wall Motor invested RM510,000,000 in safety R&D; the WEY Gaoshan attained a full five-star C-GCAP rating alongside a "Zero Formaldehyde" healthy cabin certification, bolstered by an Air Quality System (AQS) and remote UV sterilisation. Standard active and passive safety features include front dual airbags, full-length curtain airbags, Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward and Rear Collision Warning, Door Open Warning, Sentry Mode, and a rollover mitigation system.

Market Performance and Reception

Following its launch, the WEY Gaoshan quickly emerged as the most high-profile new energy model in the MPV segment. Between July and December 2025, cumulative sales reached 49,826 units, overtaking the Toyota Sienna to claim the half-year sales crown for new energy MPVs, with monthly deliveries surpassing the 10,000 mark in December at 10,558 units. Heading into 2026, it topped the sales chart again in February with 4,369 deliveries, while March sales climbed to 7,018 units—a massive 1,517% year-on-year surge. As of March 2026, it has maintained its position as China's best-selling new energy MPV for six consecutive months. Overseas market expansion is progressing in tandem, with strong demand for this luxury MPV across CIS markets and the Middle East, making export orders a vital driver of volume growth. Driven by models including the Gaoshan, WEY has become the fastest-growing brand under the Great Wall Motor stable, posting a 96.35% year-on-year growth from January to September 2025. Industry analysts attribute the Gaoshan's success to its clever positioning strategy—occupying the RM300,000 bracket, it delivers superior value with its 5-metre-plus footprint, dual-chamber air suspension, and Hi4 AWD powertrain, successfully disrupting traditional MPV price benchmarks and segment conventions.
