Model Overview

The Venucia e30 is an all-electric A-segment crossover SUV under Dongfeng Venucia, officially launched on 22 October 2019. The model was rolled out in three variants (Elf Edition, Elite Edition, and Smart Edition), with a post-subsidy price range of RM61,800 to RM74,800. Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-A platform, the Venucia e30 is a sister model to the Renault e-Nuo. Positioned as an entry-level pure electric urban commuter SUV, its key rivals include segment contenders such as the BAIC BJEV EC3, Kandi Global Hawk EX3, and Neta N01. As a product of internal technology sharing within Dongfeng Motor Corporation, the Venucia e30, alongside the Renault e-Nuo, Dongfeng Aeolus EX1, and Dongfeng Forthing T1EV, forms the "electric quadruplets".

Design Language

The Venucia e30 incorporates the brand's signature "V-Galaxy" front fascia design language. Up front, it features a closed-off front grille with an internal smoked-black dot-matrix pattern, housing an integrated charging port. The front headlamp clusters blend into the grille via chrome trim, complemented by U-shaped LED daytime running light strips that lend a modern touch. Its side profile is virtually identical to the Renault e-Nuo with compact proportions, paired with black lower door cladding and black wheel arches to project a crossover stance. The rear section is distinguished only by revised badging and rear bumper styling, along with subtly altered tail light internals. In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,732 mm long, 1,579 mm wide, and 1,515 mm tall, with a 2,423 mm wheelbase. The rated seating capacity is four occupants. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist all-black theme, fitted with a three-spoke steering wheel carrying a blue Venucia emblem. The centre console is equipped with a touchscreen, positioned above physical rotary dials for the air-conditioning controls.

Powertrain and Performance

The Venucia e30 is driven by a 4DB400 permanent magnet synchronous electric motor produced by Shanghai Edrive Co., Ltd.. The motor delivers a maximum output of 33 kW (approximately 45 PS)and 125 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the wheels via an EV single-speed fixed-ratio reduction gearbox. The top speed is rated at 105 km/h.

In terms of driving range, the 2019 launch model is fitted with a 26.8 kWh ternary lithium battery pack sourced from Tianjin Lishen, providing an NEDC-rated range of 271 km. The 2022 facelift bumped the NEDC range up to 301 km while keeping the battery capacity unchanged. The battery energy density stands at 141 Wh/kg, with an official power consumption of 10.8 kWh/100 km. Under DC fast charging, juicing from 30% to 80% takes 30 minutes, or 50 minutes from 0% to 80%; AC slow charging from 0% to 100% requires 4 hours. The battery pack comes with an 8-year or 120,000 km warranty.

Chassis and Handling

Under the skin, the Venucia e30 features a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam non-independent setup. It runs on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and rear drums. The vehicle's kerb weight is a featherweight 921 kg. While ground clearance figures have not been officially published, its stance is well-suited for everyday urban commuting. Steering is assisted by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. The suspension setup is tuned for ride comfort, catering primarily to city runabout duties.

Cabin and Equipment

In terms of cabin tech, the Venucia e30 comes with a 3-inch LCD instrument display, while mid-to-high-spec variants are upgraded with an 8-inch central touchscreen. The infotainment suite supports intelligent navigation, AI voice interaction (powered by iFLYTEK), mobile app remote control, 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, and multimedia playback. Gear shifting is operated via a rotary drive selector. LED tail lights and LED brake lights are standard across the range, whereas LED daytime running lights are exclusive to the top-spec variant. The seats are upholstered in fabric, with manual adjustments for both the driver and front passenger. Climate control is manually operated. For cargo flexibility, the rear bench folds down as a single unit, expanding boot capacity up to 1,107 litres. The front centre console includes cupholders and storage trays, although overall in-cabin storage remains modest.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety-wise, the Venucia e30 is engineered around a high-strength body shell. Passive safety equipment includes standard dual front airbagsand a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) across all variants. Active safety covers foundational features including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). It is worth noting that front side airbags and curtain airbags are not available. In terms of advanced driver assistance, the Venucia e30 does not feature Level 2 semi-autonomous driving systems; rear parking sensors come standard, while the range-topping variant adds a reverse camera.

Market Performance and Verdict

Following its market launch, the Venucia e30 saw relatively muted sales. In July 2025, sales reached just 9 units, with cumulative January–July sales at 141 units, before recording zero sales in February 2026. It did experience an early peak in December 2020, when monthly nationwide deliveries reached 1,295 units. Market analysts point out that the Venucia e30 struggled to compete against same-platform rivals such as the Renault e-Nuo and Dongfeng EX1 in terms of pricing and equipment levels; owners also noted its cramped rear quarters and sparse features. Nonetheless, the model draws praise for its nimble footprint, effortless city manoeuvrability, and remarkably low running costs. Owner sentiment remains positive regarding its exterior styling and overall value for money. Overall, leveraging the Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform, a 301 km range, and an accessible price tag, the Venucia e30 established a unique footprint in the RM60,000 to RM80,000 pure electric entry-level SUV segment, but brand recall constraints, basic equipment levels, and internal competition from platform siblings ultimately prevented it from hitting its commercial stride.
