Model Overview

The Skywell EC11 is the flagship all-electric large commercial vehicle from Skywell Auto, developed by Skywell Group's subsidiary, Skywell New Energy Automobile Group. Positioned as a full-size electric van and multi-purpose light commercial vehicle (LCV), the model serves as Skywell's strategic offering in the new energy commercial vehicle segment, primarily catering to urban logistics, passenger commuting, and cargo haulage.

First revealed in 2020 with plans for testing and evaluation in Australia, the Skywell EC11 made its official debut at the Brisbane Truck Show in May 2021 as the first full-size electric LCV launched in the Australian market. As of 2025, the Skywell EC11 has been on sale in Australia for five years. As of 2025, overseas markets remain its primary sales focus, where it has established a solid market foothold, particularly in Australia.

Design Language

In terms of exterior styling, the Skywell EC11 bears a resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, adopting a classic European van silhouette. The front end is clean and utilitarian, while the extensive use of privacy glass across the side and rear windows balances cabin illumination with privacy. At the rear, it features 270-degree opening barn doors for effortless loading and unloading of bulky cargo. Fitted with electrically adjustable wing mirrors, the overall design prioritises practicality and functionality, aligning with commercial vehicle principles of durability and operational efficiency.

Inside, the Skywell EC11 embraces a minimalist and functional cabin design. The instrument cluster layout is clean and legible, offering both analogue and digital speedometer readouts, with essential controls logically arranged across the centre console. The driver's seat comes with multi-way adjustment, complemented by a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel. Notably, the EC11 is equipped with a digital rear-view mirror system, offering a significantly wider field of view than conventional optical mirrors.

Powertrain and Performance

The Skywell EC11 is driven by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 100 kW and 750 Nm of peak torque, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 10.0 seconds on to a top speed of 120 km/h. The substantial 750 Nm torque output ensures ample pulling power for laden take-offs and steep hill climbs—a critical attribute for heavy-duty commercial haulage.

Powering the EC11 is a 73.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering a manufacturer-claimed pure electric range of 305 km under the NEDC cycle. In real-world urban driving conditions without a full payload, the vehicle achieves a range of approximately 250 km to 300 km, which drops to around 220 km to 250 km when fully laden. The battery is backed by an 8-year or 200,000 km warranty. Supporting 60 kW DC fast charging via a CCS2 port, a 0 to 80% charge takes around 2 hours. On an 11 kW AC charger, a full charge takes roughly 8 hours, reducing to about 4 hours with a 22 kW three-phase AC supply.

Chassis and Handling

The Skywell EC11 features a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Up front, it rides on a MacPherson strut independent suspension, paired with a non-independent leaf spring setup at the rear—a tried-and-tested configuration in the LCV segment that delivers front-axle ride stability alongside robust load-bearing capability. Braking is handled by front ventilated discs and rear drums, complemented by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/75 R16 tyres.

In terms of steering and dynamics, the vehicle is equipped with an electro-hydraulic power steering system that ensures effortless manoeuvrability during low-speed parking while maintaining stability at higher speeds. It also features a regenerative braking system to recapture kinetic energy during deceleration.

Cabin and Equipment

The Skywell EC11 is available in two core configurations: the E-Cargo panel van and the E-Crew passenger van. The E-Cargo variant is offered in a 2- or 3-seater layout, providing a cargo volume of around 12.3 cubic metres and a rated payload capacity of 1.7 tonnes. The E-Crew variant incorporates side and rear windows within the same body shell, accommodating up to 12 occupants for commercial passenger transport.

The centre stack houses an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, supporting navigation projection, Bluetooth connectivity, and multimedia streaming. The cargo area comes standard with an anti-slip aluminium chequered floor, along with a full steel bulkhead partition separating the cabin from the load bay for passenger safety. Standard convenience kit includes power windows, as well as front and rear air-conditioning vents. Furthermore, front and reverse cameras are standard to assist drivers during parking and tight manoeuvres.

Safety and Driver Assistance

For safety, the Skywell EC11 comes equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Active safety is bolstered by standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to help maintain vehicle composure on slippery surfaces or during sudden evasive manoeuvres. It also packs advanced safety tech including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). On the driver assistance front, the EC11's ADAS suite is Level 2.5 certified and complies with stringent European Union regulatory standards, making it one of the earliest models in its class to achieve EU homologation. Driving aids include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and Auto Parking Assist.

On the passive safety front, the EC11 is built on a 16-ring high-strength cage structure, with thermoformed boron steel and ultra-high-strength steel making up nearly 80% of the body, delivering exceptional torsional rigidity. Passive and active safety features also include dual front airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree surround-view camera, as well as Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control.

Market Performance and Reception

Since its Australian market debut in 2021, the Skywell EC11 has filled a crucial void in the full-size all-electric commercial vehicle segment, standing as Australia's first genuine full-size electric LCV. As of 2025, the model has enjoyed a five-year sales run in the country. Between 2024 and 2025, the EC11 was priced in Australia starting from AUD 89,990 (inclusive of taxes), with the flagship E-Crew 12-seater priced at around AUD 120,000.

In terms of market competition, as an early entrant in the large electric van space, the Skywell EC11 enjoyed a virtually competition-free window at launch, arriving slightly ahead of the Ford E-Transit. Market feedback from professional automotive reviews commended its charging capability, notably its support for 22 kW three-phase AC charging—a rare feature in this class. However, reviewers also noted room for improvement in road noise suppression and high-speed NVH refinement.

The Skywell EC11 has established itself as an integral strategic model for Skywell Auto in the global commercial vehicle landscape, laying vital groundwork in channel expansion and brand equity for subsequent passenger EV offerings like the BE11 in overseas markets.
