Perodua Traz

2026-10-11 15:20:00

Model Overview

The Perodua Traz is a B-segment five-seater compact SUV launched in December 2025 by Malaysian carmaker Perodua, marking the brand’s fourth model built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform. Serving as a rebadged version of the ASEAN-market Toyota Yaris Cross, the crossover was jointly developed by Perodua and Daihatsu, and is locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia with over 95% local content. Derived from the English word "Trust", the Traz is positioned as an urban family crossover, primarily targeting rivals like the Proton X50 and Chery Tiggo Cross in the B-SUV arena. The lineup is offered in two variants—1.5X and 1.5H—with on-the-road prices ranging from RM76,100 to RM82,000 (approximately RMB 125,000 to RMB 135,000).

Design Language

Sporting an "Energetic & Fusion" design theme, the Traz builds upon the Toyota Yaris Cross silhouette while integrating Perodua’s signature X-face front-end styling. The front bumper and grille have been given a distinct local treatment for a sportier and more aggressive stance. Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,655 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Notably, its wheelbase is among the longest in the B-SUV segment—besting the Proton X50 (2,600 mm) and Chery Tiggo Cross (2,610 mm)—while its class-leading 210 mm ground clearance and tight 5.2-metre turning radius ensure confident handling across both city streets and light unpaved terrains. At the rear, a gloss black trim connects the tail lamps with the central Perodua emblem. 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and full-LED headlamps are standard across the range, with the top-spec 1.5H adding LED front fog lamps and dual-tone paint schemes (Silver with Black roof, or Blue with Black roof).

Powertrain and Performance

Under the bonnet, the Traz is powered by the proven 2NR-VE 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 106 PS (78 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm, paired with a D-CVT (Dual-Mode CVT) driving the front wheels. Shared with the Perodua Myvi and Alza, this robust powertrain is well-proven in the Malaysian market and renowned for its mechanical reliability. Fuel consumption is rated at an impressive 21.3 km/L (approx. 4.7 L/100 km) under the Malaysian Driving Cycle (MDC), drawing from a 42-litre fuel tank. Drivers can switch between Eco, Normal, and Power drive modes to suit various driving conditions.

Chassis and Handling

Underpinned by the DNGA-B platform, the Traz shares its structural architecture with the second-generation Alza launched in 2022. Braking is handled by 16-inch ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) and Auto Brake Hold fitted as standard across all variants. The suspension tuning strikes a balance between urban ride comfort and light rough-road capability, complemented by a class-topping 210 mm ground clearance. Boot space is rated at a generous 471 litres in standard configuration—capable of accommodating six pieces of luggage—and houses a 16-inch spare tyre beneath the floor.

Interior and Equipment

The cabin is geared towards day-to-day practicality, finished in a clean all-black theme with sporty red horizontal accents. Standard across the range are a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit (with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), a 4.2-inch TFT multi-info display, fabric upholstery, rear air-con vents, and dual rear USB-C charging ports. It is also the first ICE-powered Perodua to offer tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment. The flagship 1.5H steps things up with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, a 6-speaker audio system (4 speakers on the X), automatic single-zone climate control (standard digital A/C on the X), a 360-degree panoramic view monitor (PVM), a built-in digital video recorder (DVR/dashcam), and a hands-free powered tailgate with kick sensor—another first for Perodua.

Safety and ADAS

The Traz has secured a full five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP safety assessment. Standard passive and active safety kit across the lineup includes six airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), and Hill-start Assist (HSA). Advanced driver assistance comes in the form of Perodua's Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) tailored for local road environments, incorporating Pre-collision Warning and Pre-collision Braking (AEB with vehicle and pedestrian detection), Front Departure Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). However, neither variant comes equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) or Auto High Beam (AHB), leaving blank covers on the right-hand steering wheel control pod.

Market Performance and Verdict

The Traz was officially launched in Malaysia on 17 December 2025. In its first full sales month (January 2026), deliveries reached 1,901 units, hitting the carmaker's initial monthly sales target of 1,900 units right on the mark. The model neatly fills the B-SUV void in Perodua's portfolio between the compact Ativa (A-SUV) and the seven-seater Aruz. On the maintenance front, the total estimated 5-year / 100,000 km periodic service cost stands at roughly RM3,535, which is over RM1,500 more affordable than the segment-leading Proton X50 (around RM5,049). Market analysts point out that with its competitive entry price, class-leading dimensions and clearance, bulletproof powertrain, and wallet-friendly running costs, the Traz offers exceptional value in Malaysia’s competitive B-segment crossover segment. Nevertheless, the omission of ACC and AHB is seen as an obvious equipment drawback by automotive media, serving as a clear product differentiator from its pricier sibling, the Toyota Yaris Cross.
