ORA 07

Model Overview

The ORA 07 is an all-electric D-segment four-door coupe introduced by Great Wall Motor's (GWM) ORA brand, primarily targeted at global markets. In its domestic Chinese market, it is sold as the ORA Lightning Cat, which forms the brand's core duo alongside the ORA Good Cat. The model was previously showcased and marketed under names such as the ORA Next Cat in the UK and ORA Grand Cat in Thailand. Across global markets, it officially adopts the unified numeric moniker "ORA 07".

Following the brand's global export announcement in 2022, the ORA 07 debuted in Thailand before expanding to multiple international markets, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the UK. In terms of dimensions, the five-seater EV measures 4,871 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase. Serving as a flagship model in ORA's global expansion strategy, the ORA 07 combines retro-futuristic four-door coupe styling with high-performance EV tech, spearheading GWM's push into the premium electric sedan segment worldwide.

Design Language

The ORA 07 adopts a distinctive "retro-futuristic" design language characterised by sleek, flowing lines and an elegant fastback silhouette. The front fascia features retro oval headlamp units accented with chrome embellishments, retaining ORA's signature family styling. Its streamlined fastback profile is complemented by flush pop-out door handles and frameless doors, achieving an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.22 Cd. Higher-spec variants feature an adaptive electric rear spoiler that automatically deploys at 70 km/h to optimize aerodynamics. Exterior colour options include Tourmaline Grey, Amethyst Purple, Jade White, and the China-exclusive Ice Diamond Pink.

Inside, the cabin features a wrap-around, supercar-inspired cockpit layout, with premium leather and soft-touch materials generously trimming the dashboard and centre console. It is equipped with a triple-pod 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display, flanked by tactile buttons and rotary dials reminiscent of high-end sports cars. The overall interior strikes an impressive balance between accessible luxury and cutting-edge tech.

Powertrain & Performance

Globally, the ORA 07 is offered in two powertrain configurations—single-motor Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and dual-motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD)—both utilising permanent magnet synchronous motors. The single-motor FWD variant delivers 150 kW (approx. 204 PS) and 340 Nm of torque, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds. The dual-motor AWD variant punches out a combined 300 kW (approx. 408 PS) and 680 Nm, slashing the century sprint to just 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 170 to 180 km/h. The AWD variant is also equipped with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that provides precise, real-time torque vectoring between the axles.

Battery options comprise lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) ternary lithium packs. The Standard Range variant packs a 64 kWh LFP battery, whereas the Long Range variant upgrades to an 83.5 kWh ternary lithium pack. Under WLTP test cycles, the Standard Range achieves around 440 km, the Long Range variant delivers up to 547 km, and the dual-motor AWD version offers approximately 520 km; on the NEDC cycle, the Long Range claims up to 640 km, while the AWD Performance model is rated at 550 km. DC fast charging tops out at 88 kW, taking the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in 30 minutes, while AC charging at 6.6 kW or 11 kW (market-dependent) takes around 13 hours for a full 0-100% charge.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the ORA 07 sits on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup, engineered to strike a sweet spot between dynamic handling and ride comfort. Drivetrain options span FWD and dual-motor AWD layouts, with the rear multi-link setup bolstering high-speed stability and cornering grip. Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes come standard across the range. Drivers can toggle between four primary drive modes: Eco, Standard, Sport, and Individual. Select variants also feature specialised driving modes, including a female-oriented "Goddess Mode", a highway-focused "Wave-Breaking Mode", and a high-performance "Super Sport Mode". With its sport-tuned suspension, the EV delivers composed and reassuring dynamic handling out on the road.

Cabin & Features

The ORA 07 runs on an in-house developed smart cockpit operating system, equipped with a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display as standard, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and full-scenario voice commands. Upper-tier variants can also be had with a 9-inch windshield head-up display (W-HUD) for seamless driving telemetry.

In terms of creature comforts, higher-end trims come fitted with a power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Audio is handled by an 11-speaker Infinity sound system by Harman with simulated engine sounds for a more engaging acoustic experience. Select variants also boast dual-zone automatic climate control, a UV cabin sterilisation system, and a smart fragrance system to enhance cabin air quality and comfort. Overhead, a panoramic glass roof flows seamlessly into the rear windshield, flooding the cabin with natural light and accentuating its airy feel.

Safety & Intelligent Driving

The ORA 07 is outfitted with 28 intelligent sensors, including ultrasonic sensors, millimetre-wave radars, and exterior cameras. Utilising a vision-and-radar sensor fusion suite paired with 5G multi-satellite positioning and high-definition mapping, it delivers advanced driver-assistance capabilities. The ADAS suite covers Level 2 driving assist features such as full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). It also supports Highway Assist (HWA) and Navigation on Highway (NOH), delivering intuitive pilot assist functions across specific highway driving scenarios. Additionally, a fully automated fusion parking system allows one-touch remote parking via a smartphone app. For passive safety, the ORA 07 incorporates a five-tier battery safety shield covering structural integrity, pressure management, thermal isolation, insulation, and smart monitoring, effectively mitigating thermal runaway risks and safeguarding critical high-voltage components.

Market Performance & Reception

The ORA 07 has been progressively rolling out across global markets since 2024. In Hong Kong, the Standard Range starts from around HKD 239,900, while the AWD Performance variant is priced from roughly HKD 329,800. In Malaysia, pricing starts from around RM170,000. Across European markets such as the UK, ORA is steadily expanding its retail footprint, positioning the ORA 07 directly against segment heavyweights like the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal.

From an industry standpoint, the ORA 07 has garnered considerable interest from younger buyers and female drivers, thanks to its distinct retro-coupe aesthetic, generous standard kit, and versatile powertrain options. Malaysian motoring media noted during test drives that the car's slippery 0.22 Cd drag coefficient, frameless doors, and active rear spoiler provide standout value for money in the electric coupe space. However, brand equity, charging infrastructure coverage, and driving refinement still leave some ground to cover when stacked against benchmarks like the Tesla Model 3. Overall, as a pivotal model in GWM's global electrification push, the ORA 07 has successfully carved out a uniquely styled niche in the competitive all-electric D-segment sedan market.
