2026-09-20 09:00:02

Model Overview

The JETOUR T2 is a flagship model spearheading Chery Holding-backed JETOUR Auto’s 'Travel+' strategy, positioned as a compact adventure off-road SUV. The model range is split into two primary powertrain lineups: petrol (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The petrol version is marketed as the JETOUR Traveller, while the PHEV variant was initially badged as the JETOUR Shanhai T2 before being renamed the JETOUR Traveller C-DM for the 2026 model year. The updated 2026 lineup officially went on sale on 17 November 2025, offering 5 petrol variants priced between RM124,900 and RM164,900 under limited-time promotional pricing, alongside 6 PHEV variants priced from RM152,900 to RM209,900. Built on a monocoque chassis, the range targets the light off-road new energy vehicle (NEV) SUV segment, locking horns with rivals such as the HAVAL Raptor.

Dimension-wise, the 2026 JETOUR T2 measures 4,795 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,880 mm tall, with an extensive 3,023 mm wheelbase. Thanks to its 3-metre-plus wheelbase and nearly 1.9-metre overall height, it delivers mid-size SUV-rivalling cabin space despite its compact SUV classification. Fuel tank capacity is rated at 70 litres, while the PHEV model packs a 43.24 kWh CATL battery pack. As a global strategic model, it has completed homologation across several overseas markets, with an estimated pre-booking price of approximately RM178,900 for the Malaysian market.

Design Language

The JETOUR T2 adopts the brand's 'Highway and Horizon' design language, sporting a classic boxy silhouette with bold, angular contours and a muscular road presence. The front fascia features a smoked radiator grille with illuminated 'JETOUR' lettering at the centre, flanked by squarish LED headlamp clusters. A chunky, black front bumper paired with an aggressive bash plate offers a high approach angle, effortlessly blending rugged utility with modern styling. Down the sides, clean horizontal character lines, flared wheel arches, and large alloy wheels enhance its muscular stance, while blacked-out B-pillars create a sleek, cohesive profile. Round the back, a tailgate-mounted spare tyre cements its rugged 4x4 off-roader aesthetic.

Inside, the cabin features a minimalist, tech-driven cockpit layout with virtually no physical switchgear on the centre console, integrating most controls into the main screen. The seats are available in striking dual-tone combinations such as Black/Red and Blue/White, complemented by retro-style rounded-rectangular air vents. A massive 64-inch panoramic glass roof comes standard across the range, flooding the interior with natural light.

Powertrain & Performance

The plug-in hybrid version is powered by the Kunpeng Super Hybrid C-DM system, pairing a 1.5-litre TGDI dedicated hybrid petrol engine with electric motors. The front-wheel drive (FWD) model puts out a combined system output of 280 kW and 610 Nm of torque; the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant steps up to a 1.5T engine paired with a P2+P2.5+P4 tri-motor setup, churning out a massive combined 455 kW and 920 Nm, with wheel-end torque reaching up to 7,700 Nm for a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of roughly 4.9 seconds. Power is channelled through a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). It is equipped with a 43.24 kWh CATL ternary lithium battery pack, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 129 km or 208 km (covering 100–161 km under the WLTC test cycle). Total combined cruising range stretches up to 1,300 km on a full tank and full charge, with fuel consumption rated at around 6.3–6.4 L/100km in charge-depleted hybrid mode. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% takes between 30 and 37 minutes.

The petrol version is offered with 1.5T and 2.0TGDI Kunpeng Power petrol engines, with the 2.0T mill serving as the headline powertrain for the range-topping AWD variant. Top speed is rated at 200 km/h.

Chassis & Handling

The PHEV AWD model is developed on the Kunlun Off-road Hybrid Architecture and fitted with Chery’s Kunpeng electric AWD system. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts up front, while the AWD variant upgrades to an aluminium alloy H-arm multi-link independent rear suspension over the FWD’s standard four-link setup. The AWD model's rear axle is equipped with an electronically controlled mechanical dog-clutch differential lock derived from the same lineage as the Jeep Wrangler. The underbody is shielded by 7 metal skid plates and certified for a 1.6-tonne braked towing capacity, with factory-fitted tow hitches and electrical connectors available as options.

Off-road credentials include an approach angle of 28°, a departure angle of 30°, a breakover angle close to 20°, minimum ground clearance of 220 mm, and a class-leading water wading depth of 700 mm. The electronic AWD system provides an 'X Smart Off-road' mode and '7+X Smart Off-road' programmes (covering 7 terrain modes including Snow, Mud, and Rock, alongside intelligent terrain adaptation). Body torsional rigidity reaches 31,000–32,000 Nm/deg; for a monocoque SUV, this performance rivals many traditional ladder-frame off-roaders.

Cabin & Equipment

The JETOUR T2 comes standard across the board with a widescreen cockpit featuring a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen infotainment display, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive-grade processor. The infotainment setup supports 4G IoV connectivity, FOTA over-the-air updates, and an AI smart voice assistant capable of managing the dual-zone air conditioning, satellite navigation, and multimedia. Seamless smartphone integration is standard via Apple CarPlay and HUAWEI HiCar. It is also equipped with facial recognition and a Driver Monitoring System (DMS). A 540° panoramic parking camera system (incorporating a 180° transparent underfloor view) comes standard on all variants, alongside 6.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging capabilities. The rear seats feature split-folding capabilities, with the boot offering a standard cargo capacity of 580 litres, expandable when the seats are folded flat. The model is available in both 5-seater and 7-seater cabin layouts.

Safety & Driver Assistance

In terms of passive safety, the JETOUR T2 is engineered with a high-strength safety cage construction boasting submarine-grade torsional stiffness of 31,000–32,000 Nm/deg. For regional safety validation, it has secured a maximum 5-star crash safety rating from ASEAN NCAP. Standard safety equipment includes driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, and full-length curtain airbags spanning front to rear, delivering all-round passenger protection.

Active safety is bolstered by a standard Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) across the lineup. Key ADAS functions include Full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Lane Change Assist (LCA). Higher-spec variants further add automated parking assist. A 540° surround-view monitor and DMS driver fatigue monitoring system are fitted as standard across all variants.

Market Performance & Reception

The JETOUR T2 (Shanhai T2 / Traveller C-DM) witnessed an initial market boom that gradually tapered off. During its early post-launch run, peak monthly sales touched nearly 7,000 units, establishing it as the volume seller in the JETOUR Shanhai lineup. However, heading into 2025, compounded by aggressive segment competition, new energy market shifts, and naming adjustments, sales experienced a sharp drop, hovering below 2,000 units for multiple months. In September 2025, PHEV sales stood at 1,506 units, while its petrol sibling, the JETOUR Traveller, posted 3,986 units. In response, JETOUR rebranded the PHEV variant as the Traveller C-DM in November 2025, consolidating it under the core Traveller moniker.

By the end of 2025, cumulative global deliveries of the JETOUR T2 series had surpassed 414,000 units, with export footprints steadily expanding across emerging ASEAN markets such as Indonesia. Customer feedback highlights its distinct boxy road presence, generous cabin space, frugal PHEV powertrain with dependable EV range, and responsive 8155-backed infotainment system. Conversely, drawbacks include the noticeable sales gap between PHEV and ICE variants, evolving brand recognition, and consumer misconceptions regarding monocoque-based light off-roaders. Overall, as the spearhead of JETOUR's 'Travel+' strategy, the T2 has established a compelling niche in the rugged lifestyle SUV segment through its dual ICE and PHEV offensive. The 2026 update further sharpens its competitive edge through simplified badging, broad powertrain options, and upgraded in-car technology.
