Haima 7X-H

2026-09-28 23:00:02

Model Overview

The Haima 7X-H is the first hydrogen fuel cell MPV jointly developed by Haima Automobile and Toyota Motor, positioned as a zero-emission new energy multi-purpose vehicle. Built on the platform of Haima Automobile's existing petrol-powered 7X, it features Toyota's second-generation Mirai hydrogen fuel cell stack system, making it China's first 70MPa hydrogen fuel cell MPV. Having debuted and commenced demonstration operations in 2024, the Haima 7X-H serves as a key strategic model for Haima Automobile in the hydrogen energy sector and represents a flagship milestone for the Hainan Free Trade Port’s whole-industry-chain zero-carbon automotive ecosystem initiative. Currently targeted primarily at commercial fleet operations, the model delivers premium mobility services via the "Nanhai Hydrogen Mobility" brand and platforms such as DiDi and Ctrip. By 2025, the Haima 7X-H fleet had accumulated over 2 million kilometres of fault-free operations and bagged the Technology Innovation Award of the Year.

Design Language

The exterior of the Haima 7X-H inherits the design cues of the petrol-powered Haima 7X, delivering a youthful and dynamic road presence. Up front, it features an aggressive polygonal front grille with a radiant mesh pattern for strong visual impact, flanked by smoked headlamp clusters that seamlessly blend into the grille assembly. The lower bumper incorporates prominent air curtains with aeroblade accents to accentuate its sporty character. In profile, the MPV sports a floating roof aesthetic complemented by a prominent full-length shoulder line; roof rails come standard, with rugged black cladding adorning the wheel arches and side skirts.

Dimension-wise, the Haima 7X-H measures 4,950 mm in length, 1,874 mm in width, and 1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,860 mm. In terms of seating arrangements, earlier demonstration units featured a 2+2+3 seven-seater configuration, though official specifications for the on-sale 2024 model list it as a five-seater version.

Inside, the cabin features a two-tone theme anchored by a continuous dual 12.3-inch screen setup (digital instrument binnacle + central infotainment touchscreen) with full touch support. A two-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a conventional gear selector lever are fitted, flanked by tactile physical switchgear for an uncluttered and ergonomic layout.

Powertrain and Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

At the heart of the Haima 7X-H lies Toyota’s second-generation Mirai hydrogen fuel cell stack system, which stands as the vehicle's core technical highlight. The hydrogen powertrain incorporates 70MPa high-pressure storage tanks with a combined hydrogen capacity of 144 litres. A full refuelling stop takes a mere 3 to 5 minutes, returning a CLTC-rated range of between 650 km and 652 km. Hydrogen consumption is rated as low as 0.87 kg per 100 km, with the fuel cell stack boasting a service lifespan of up to 30,000 operational hours.

For the driveline, the vehicle adopts a rear-mounted motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 200 kW (272 PS) and a peak torque of 330 Nm. It completes the century sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds, with top speed capped at 150 km/h. As a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCEV), the Haima 7X-H emits nothing but water vapour, offering true zero-emission motoring.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the rear-wheel-drive Haima 7X-H rides on front MacPherson struts and an independent multi-link rear suspension setup. This suspension arrangement is standard fare for modern MPVs, striking an ideal balance between ride pliancy and high-speed stability. Stopping power is managed by ventilated front disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes, paired with an electronic parking brake (EPB). It rides on 215/55 R18 tyres. Crucially, the powertrain is engineered to operate seamlessly in freezing temperatures down to -30°C, proving its robustness in extreme weather conditions.

Cabin and Equipment

The Haima 7X-H’s cabin emphasises digital connectivity, driven by the Haima Intelligent Connected Platform that supports telematics remote vehicle control and smart home integration. On the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) front, the MPV is equipped with Level 2 semi-autonomous capabilities, including Home Automated Valet Parking (HAVP), Remote Parking Assist (RPA), Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Speed Limit Assist (SLA). Furthermore, the interior is equipped with an in-cabin vital signs monitoring system to mitigate the risk of children or pets being inadvertently left unattended.

Creature comforts include dual 12.3-inch panoramic display panels, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shift-by-wire gear selector, though specific equipment levels may vary across individual variants.

Safety and Reliability

Safety-wise, the Haima 7X-H is engineered with a comprehensive multi-tier safety architecture: all high-voltage components maintain strict electrical insulation even when submerged; an on-board hydrogen concentration monitoring system tracks leak risks in real time; and a collision safety system instantly isolates the high-voltage electrical network upon detecting an impact.

In real-world endurance trials, a fleet of 50 Haima 7X-H units clocked over 2 million kilometres of zero-fault operations across Hainan’s punishing tropical island climate—characterised by high ambient heat, extreme humidity, high salinity, and heavy rainfall—as of November 2025. This operational record rigorously validates the durability and real-world viability of the hydrogen fuel cell system under demanding operating conditions. The MPV has also served as the official VIP mobility shuttle for major international events such as the Boao Forum for Asia, the World New Energy Vehicle Congress, and the China International Consumer Products Expo.

Market Performance and Industry Reception

By the close of 2025, the Haima 7X-H programme had registered 44 patent filings, including 27 invention patents with 5 officially granted. In 2025, Haima Automobile introduced its hydrogen passenger mobility sub-brand, "Nanhai Hydrogen Mobility", establishing the Haima 7X-H as China’s first hydrogen-powered passenger car deployed in the e-hailing segment through fleet integrations with DiDi and Ctrip. Haima Automobile has additionally launched a dedicated "Hydrogen + Mobility" experience hub at Haikou Meilan International Airport to offer arriving travellers first-hand hydrogen mobility experiences.

Within the industry, the Haima 7X-H was conferred the "Technology Innovation Award of the Year" in January 2026. Representing the flagship engineering collaboration between Haima Automobile and Toyota Motor, its operational deployment marks a crucial milestone in the commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cell passenger cars in China, providing vital practical momentum for the Hainan Free Trade Port's full-value-chain zero-carbon automotive ecosystem.

In terms of market rivals, China's hydrogen-powered passenger car segment remains in its developmental phase, with notable contenders including the Deepal SL03 Hydrogen Electric Version and the fully imported Toyota Mirai. As a dedicated hydrogen-powered MPV, the Haima 7X-H commands a distinctive niche within the multi-purpose passenger vehicle market.
