HAVAL Raptor PHEV

2026-10-02 01:20:00

The HAVAL Raptor PHEV is a plug-in hybrid compact SUV from GWM’s HAVAL brand, positioned as an “All-Scenario New Energy Boxy SUV”. First introduced to the market in 2023, it was billed by the brand as the pioneer of the new energy boxy vehicle category. On 19 August 2025, the 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV officially went on sale with six variant trims, priced between RM173,800 and RM208,800, alongside a limited-time promotional trade-in price range of RM153,800 to RM188,800. As a core model in HAVAL’s new energy transition, it is also among the first vehicles to feature GWM’s second-generation Hi4 intelligent electric four-wheel-drive hybrid technology.

Design Language

The 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV retains its signature boxy profile while receiving comprehensive exterior refinements. Up front, it features a Great Wall-inspired block grille, complemented by squared-off mortise-and-tenon LED headlights and a full-width light bar, blending heritage cues with modern tech aesthetics. Round the back, the “HAVAL” script has made way for the “GWM” brand emblem in line with GWM's global strategy, while the tail lamps gain a new 3D internal structure featuring 300 vertical LED diodes that project a distinct light curtain under braking. A new Mint Green paint option joins Moon White, Jiangnan Ink Grey, Midnight Black, and Cloud Valley Grey for a total of five exterior colours. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,800 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, and 1,843 mm tall, with a 2,738 mm wheelbase. For off-road clearance, it boasts an unladen ground clearance of 221 mm, a 25° approach angle, a 32° departure angle, and a maximum water-wading depth of 580 mm.

Inside, the 2026 model gains a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel and switches to a steering-column gear selector, freeing up valuable space on the centre console. Physical switches have been intentionally retained across the cabin for effortless tactile operation during off-road driving. The front seats come with power adjustment, heating, and ventilation, while the rear backrests can be reclined between 27° and 32°.

Powertrain and Performance

The headline upgrade for the 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV is the introduction of GWM’s second-generation Hi4 intelligent electric 4WD hybrid system. This setup employs a P2+P4 dual-motor architecture, featuring a P2 electric motor integrated into the dedicated hybrid transmission on the front axle and an independent P4 motor on the rear axle, forming a dual-axle distributed hybrid layout. The powertrain pairs a new 1.5-litre turbocharged dedicated hybrid engine (GW4B15M) with the front and rear electric motors. The 1.5T engine delivers a maximum power output of 115 kW (approx. 156 PS)—a slight detune from the 2024 model's 123 kW (GW4B15E), but engineered for greater smoothness and fuel efficiency. Total system output stands at 330 kW and 750 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds—matching the performance of conventional 3.0T petrol powerplants.

On the battery and range front, the 2026 Raptor PHEV is offered with three LFP/ternary lithium battery options: the entry variant gets an 18.74 kWh pack offering a CLTC pure electric range of 102 km; the mid-range model features a 27.54 kWh pack with 150 km of CLTC EV range; while the top-spec variant introduces a new 35.43 kWh ternary lithium battery pack delivering up to 200 km of CLTC EV range (151 km under WLTC), yielding an overall combined range of over 1,000 km. DC fast charging is supported. Official combined fuel consumption in battery-depleted mode is rated at 0.93-0.95 L/100 km, while real-world media testing indicates around 6.0 L/100 km.

Chassis and Handling

The 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV comes standard across the range with the second-generation Hi4 electric 4WD system, riding on front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup. Drivers can toggle between seven driving modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and 4WD to handle various terrains. Mid-to-high-spec variants (150 Ultra and above) add an electronically controlled rear differential lock, paired with the iTVC intelligent torque vectoring system to channel drive to the wheel with grip when slip occurs, improving escape capability in light off-road conditions. It is worth noting that the Raptor PHEV features a monocoque chassis, meaning its off-road capability is tailored for 'light off-roading' and general outdoor lifestyle use, setting it fundamentally apart from hardcore off-roaders built on a ladder-frame chassis.

Cabin and Equipment

In the tech department, the 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV comes standard with a 14.6-inch floating central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster, powered by GWM's proprietary Coffee OS 3 with 16GB of RAM. It supports multiple smartphone connectivity protocols, including Huawei HiCar, ICCOA Carlink, and Honor CarLink. The infotainment system integrates the latest-generation AutoNavi navigation, complete with a real-time traffic light countdown display. On higher-spec variants, creature comforts include a head-up display (HUD), wireless smartphone charging pad, a 10-speaker sound system, multi-colour ambient lighting, rear sunshades, and an operable panoramic sunroof.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

The 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV is equipped with GWM's Coffee Pilot Plus advanced driver assistance system, running on a vision-centric architecture. The hardware suite consists of two 8MP front-view cameras, four 3MP fisheye cameras, one 3MP rear camera, one forward-facing millimetre-wave radar, two rear corner radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors—totaling 22 sensing units backed by a TDA4VH chip delivering 32 TOPS of computing power.

As standard, all variants feature Level 2 driver assistance capabilities, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering Assist, and Autonomous Emergency Braking. The flagship Pilot variant steps up to High-Speed NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) operational across 0-150 km/h, offering automated highway ramp entry/exit and assisted lane-change protection. It also supports all-scenario Memory Parking (covering indoor, outdoor, surface, and underground car parks) alongside Reversing Assist.

Market Performance and Reception

Since its market arrival in 2024, the HAVAL Raptor PHEV has posted strong sales numbers. Public data shows the model achieved ten consecutive months of sales growth, breaching the 10,000-unit monthly sales mark during 2024. Moving into 2025, deliveries held steady at around 5,000 units per month, recording 5,018 units in June and clinching top spot in the new energy boxy and lifestyle off-road SUV segment for the first half of the year. In January 2026, monthly sales reached 5,043 units.

In the market, key rivals to the HAVAL Raptor PHEV include other boxy plug-in hybrid SUVs in the segment, such as the Jetour Shanhai T2. Consumer feedback has been largely positive regarding its rugged styling, generous cabin space (notably headroom), seamless power delivery from the Hi4 electric 4WD system, and the practicality of the long-range battery options. Conversely, some reviewers have noted that its fuel consumption in battery-depleted mode is somewhat higher than urban-centric hybrid SUVs at a similar price point, such as the BYD Song PLUS DM-i, while its monocoque construction naturally limits its appeal to hardcore off-road enthusiasts. On the whole, bolstered by a 200 km CLTC electric range, 5.9-second century sprint performance, and high-tech features such as High-Speed NOA, the 2026 HAVAL Raptor PHEV carves out a well-differentiated value proposition in the RM200,000-class new energy 'light off-road' segment.
