The Haval H6 is a compact SUV officially launched on 25 August 2011 under Great Wall Motor's Haval brand. Spanning three model generations to date, its cumulative sales have surpassed 4 million units. It famously held the crown as China's best-selling SUV for 103 consecutive months, earning it the reputation of the "people's champion SUV". With its well-rounded product package, accessible pricing, and continuous technical refinements, the Haval H6 has long been a dominant force at the top of China's SUV sales charts.
On 19 June 2024, the all-new Haval H6 (commonly referred to as the fourth-generation model) was officially launched with an indicative price range of RM117,900 to RM143,900, alongside a limited-time promotional price range of RM103,900 to RM129,900 across five distinct variants. Haval subsequently expanded the line-up with the H6L series (2026 model, offered in four trims: 1.5T Pro, 1.5T Max, 2.0T Max, and 2.0T Ultra) priced between RM117,900 and RM141,900, officially taking the nameplate into the mid-size SUV segment. Meanwhile, the 2025 Haval H6 Guochao Edition remains on sale with a price tag of RM98,900 to RM128,900. In addition, the Haval H6 line-up also offers HEV hybrid and PHEV plug-in hybrid options.
Following multiple aesthetic evolutions, the Haval H6 range has established three mainstream styling directions: "Guochao Edition", "All-New H6", and "H6L".
The All-New H6 adopts the "Home" design philosophy, sporting a "Star Shield" front grille flanked by cascading vertical daytime running lights that together form a bold "H"-shaped front profile. The vehicle measures 4,703 × 1,886 × 1,730 mm with a 2,738 mm wheelbase. Inside, the cabin embraces a clean, modern aesthetic equipped with a 14.6-inch floating central infotainment display, a steering column-mounted electronic gear selector, and premium soft-touch materials across the dashboard fascia.
The 2025 Guochao Edition centres on evolutionary refinement. Its front fascia features a Star Shield dual grille—a matrix patterned grille accented by a 7-horizontal and 13-vertical chrome matrix layout. High-spec models feature "Starlight" LED headlamp clusters housing 23 LED diodes, capable of casting an illumination beam up to 190 metres. Exterior dimensions stand at 4,645 × 1,860 × 1,720 mm with a 2,680 mm wheelbase. At the rear, it features "Star Track Wing" taillights (split-unit design on domestic high-spec trims) comprising 124 LED elements that deliver a distinctive phoenix-feather visual signature when lit. Inside, a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen comes standard (upgraded to 14.6 inches on export models), paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an AR-HUD head-up display on top-tier trims to create an integrated three-screen setup.
The H6L series represents the largest variant in the family, measuring 4,800 × 1,895 × 1,730 mm with an extended wheelbase of 2,810 mm. It steps up to a Starry Surround smart cockpit, featuring a 10-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch floating central display powered by the WindLink X 3.0 operating system.
The Haval H6 range offers four powertrain configurations: 1.5T and 2.0T petrol engines, an HEV full hybrid, and a PHEV plug-in hybrid.
The 1.5T petrol variant is driven by the GW4B15L engine, producing a maximum output of 135 kW (approx. 184 PS) and a peak torque of 275 Nm, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It delivers a WLTC combined fuel consumption of roughly 6.89 L/100 km and a top speed of 190 km/h.
The 2.0T petrol variant runs on the GW4N20A unit, delivering 175 kW (approx. 238 PS) and 385 Nm of peak torque, coupled with a 9-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). WLTC combined fuel consumption is rated at approximately 7.4 L/100 km, with top speed capped at 215 km/h.
The HEV hybrid variant pairs a 1.5T engine with an electric motor to generate a total system output of approximately 179 kW (approx. 240 PS), returning a WLTC combined fuel economy as low as 4.9 L/100 km. The PHEV plug-in hybrid variant offers a pure electric range of 110 to 201 km (NEDC cycle), a depleted-battery fuel consumption of around 5.6 L/100 km, and supports 41 kW DC fast charging. A Hi4 intelligent four-wheel-drive hybrid version is also slated for release. All powertrain variants run on RON 92 petrol, feature aluminium alloy engine blocks and cylinder heads, and meet China VI emission standards.
The entire Haval H6 lineup features a front MacPherson strut independent suspension, with rear setups tailored to specific models. The All-New H6 and H6L adopt a rear multi-link independent suspension. Combined with revised chassis tuning, straight-line stability and ride comfort have been substantially elevated, delivering reduced steering deadband and crisper turn-in response; chassis lightweighting measures have also shaved roughly 100 kg compared to its predecessor. The 2025 Guochao Edition features a rear double-wishbone independent suspension, optimising lateral rigidity for daily urban commuting.
Looking at the H6L chassis hardware, it is equipped with ventilated front brake discs, solid rear discs, an electronic parking brake (EPB), and 225/60 R18 tyres. The H6L combines the Starry Surround smart cockpit with refined chassis damping to deliver a composed and comfortable ride for family duties. All-wheel drive models (such as the 2.0T AWD) come with a BorgWarner 5th-generation intelligent AWD system featuring on-demand AWD with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch centre differential, adding an Off-road mode alongside Standard, Eco, Sport, and Snow settings, together with a 600 mm wading depth for superior rough-road capability.
The Haval H6 lineup provides distinct interior equipment strategies across its derivatives. The All-New H6 comes standard with a 14.6-inch high-definition central display, supporting Huawei HiCar 4.0 and ICCOA smartphone connectivity. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, the infotainment system delivers fluid UI performance and responsive, full-scenario voice control.
2025 Guochao Edition cabin: Features a 12.3-inch floating central touchscreen (optional 14.6-inch) and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster (optional 12.3-inch). The dashboard is generously trimmed in soft-touch materials, complemented by faux leather upholstery with contrast stitching. The infotainment setup runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor with the Coffee OS 3.0 platform, supporting multi-dialect voice commands with an impressive 98% wake-up accuracy rate. Amenities include a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, heated/ventilated front seats (on selected variants), 19 interior storage compartments, and a completely flat rear footwell. Boot volume stands at 506 L in standard configuration and expands to 1,485 L with the rear seats folded.
H6L series cabin: Adds a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen, column-mounted electronic gear shifter, dual-density foam seats, front seats with ventilation, heating and massage functions, heated rear seats, two-stage reclining rear backrests, a heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker sound system, and acoustic laminated double glazing. Standard boot capacity is rated at 625 L, expanding to 1,480 L via one-touch seat folding, supported by 28 practical cabin storage compartments.
On the passive safety front, the Haval H6 comes standard with dual front airbags, front side airbags, and front/rear curtain airbags (on selected trims), with top-grade variants adding a driver's knee airbag, all built around a high-strength safety cell structure.
Active safety systems are comprehensive across the board, featuring Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control System (TCS), and Brake Assist (BA) as standard equipment.
For advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), both the 2025 Guochao Edition and All-New H6 come standard with Level 2 ADAS (Coffee Pilot 2.0) across the entire range. This suite includes Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Control (LCC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Auto Parking Assist (APA), and a 540° panoramic camera with transparent chassis view. Level 2 driving assistance is fitted across the lineup, while flagship variants add a 50-metre reverse tracking assistant, transparent chassis display, and a 360° surround-view monitor. However, driver assistance specifications vary on entry-level models; for instance, the 2025 Guochao Urban Edition is equipped only with standard cruise control and a kerbside blind-spot camera.
Since its inception, the Haval H6 has achieved cumulative sales of over 4 million units, setting an unprecedented benchmark by maintaining its position as the top-selling SUV for 103 consecutive months. However, following the accelerated shift towards new energy vehicles (NEVs) post-2025, sales have felt the squeeze: full-year 2025 volume settled at 85,688 units. Moving into 2026, monthly deliveries registered 4,984 units in January, 4,447 units in March, and 3,771 units in April, placing it 22nd in the compact SUV segment and 62nd overall in the broader SUV market. As of May 2026, promotional rebates on the Haval H6L have reached up to RM24,000 in selected regions. The showroom bare-car price for the 2025 Guochao Edition (China VI) has fallen to as low as RM68,900, translating to an on-the-road cost of around RM80,000.
From an ownership and media perspective, the H6 continues to receive solid praise for its balanced dynamics, robust suspension build (front MacPherson + rear multi-link setup), generous active and passive safety kit, dependable resale value, and fuss-free maintenance network. Owner feedback highlights a few areas for improvement: certain variants retain the older Snapdragon 8155 chip rather than adopting the flagship 8295 processor, low-speed gear shifts can occasionally feel hesitant, wind noise insulation at highway speeds remains average, and ADAS features are somewhat pared back on base derivatives.
In summary, the Haval H6 remains a strong, value-packed contender in the RM100,000 to RM150,000 family SUV bracket, backed by proven mechanicals, versatile powertrain offerings, and standard Level 2 ADAS across key trims. Nonetheless, in an evolving automotive landscape where NEV market share has breached the 50% threshold, traditional petrol-powered SUVs face continuous pressure. The market reception and real-world efficiency of the forthcoming Haval H6 Hi4 hybrid will undoubtedly be the decisive factor in whether this legendary nameplate can reclaim its peak market dominance.
