Fullgood Summer

2026-10-04 00:30:00

Vehicle Overview

The Fullgood Summer is a mid-to-large plug-in hybrid MPV from Fullgood Motor, which made its official debut and commenced pre-sales in April 2025 at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. Tracing its roots back to Songsan Motors founded in 1995, Fullgood Motor carries 29 years of bespoke automotive and motorcycle customisation heritage, driven by its core brand philosophy of "recreating retro charm with modern technology". Positioned as an "FUV Family Joy Car", the Summer is the brand's second mass-production model, targeted at buyers seeking bespoke individual expression alongside family practicality. Contract-manufactured by Nanjing Golden Dragon Bus, pre-sale prices for the new model start from RM238,000, with the first batch of production vehicles slated for delivery in Q4 2025.

Design Language

Styling-wise, the Fullgood Summer pays a profound homage to the iconic Volkswagen T1 Kombi van that took Europe and North America by storm during the 1960s and 1970s. The front fascia retains the signature rounded silhouette and circular headlamps of the T1, upgraded with LED light units, while an expansive front windscreen preserves the vintage charm while complying with modern safety regulations. The body is fitted with 19-inch white-wall tyres and chunky front and rear bumpers that exude an integrated widebody aesthetic.

The MPV's standout design highlight is its world-first "eight-door" layout—featuring three doors on each side, a configuration seen previously only on rare Camper iterations of the Volkswagen T1. The rear appears to adopt split barn doors, further enhancing passenger ingress/egress convenience and adding a sense of occasion. In terms of exterior dimensions, the Summer measures 5,290 × 2,050 (or 2,058) × 1,930 (or 1,950) mm in length, width, and height, with a 3,250 mm wheelbase. A range of exterior paint options is available, including Macaron Green.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the bonnet, the Fullgood Summer is powered by a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system. Its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine is supplied by Liuzhou Wuling Liuji Power, boasting an engine thermal efficiency of up to 43.2%. Paired with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (delivering a maximum power of 140 kW and peak torque of 310 Nm), the setup produces a combined maximum output of 324 hp and a combined peak torque of 550 Nm. Energy storage is handled by a 15 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a pure electric driving range of 60 km. Power is sent to the front wheels via an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT)  in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FF) layout. The vehicle's top speed is rated at 165 km/h.

Chassis and Handling

The chassis of the Fullgood Summer has been tuned by MIRA Ltd. (UK), a global benchmark in automotive engineering and testing . Ride and handling are managed by an independent setup comprising front MacPherson struts and a rear five-link suspension. This setup is relatively sophisticated in its class, engineered to balance dynamic stability with ride comfort. Additionally, reports indicate that the car may incorporate CATL's intelligent skateboard chassis architecture.

Cabin and Features

Inside, the Fullgood Summer adopts a 7-seater layout, rated to carry seven occupants. The versatile interior seating supports magic modular configurations—allowing seats to be arranged face-to-face, folded completely flat into a full-length bed, or folded away to maximise boot space, effortlessly catering to family outings, road trips, and car camping. Modern cabin appointments include a 12.8-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, a 10-speaker sound system, and seat heating and ventilation functions.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

In terms of safety kit, the Fullgood Summer comes standard with active systems such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control (TCS), and Electronic Brake System. Driver assistance features include Cruise Control and Electric Power Steering (EPS). Media reports highlight that beyond its smart driving technology, the vehicle offers "ultra-high aesthetic appeal and exceptional novelty factor". Overall, modern-standard intelligence and safety features are seamlessly integrated beneath its vintage styling.

Market Performance and Reception

The Fullgood Summer has garnered an enthusiastic market response since its unveiling. During the Shanghai Auto Show, its pre-sale orders exceeded 5,000 units. In terms of pricing, while the official recommended retail price is RM328,000, introductory pre-sale prices start from RM238,000. Social media platforms have seen a surge of positive reviews, with netizens praising its "spot-on blend of retro and modernity", "truly unique styling", and "immense cabin space perfect for camper lifestyles".

Both user and media reviews widely agree that the Fullgood Summer successfully marries retro nostalgia with modern technology. Its classic silhouette paying tribute to the Volkswagen T1 and the world-first eight-door design have drawn considerable acclaim; the robust performance and low energy consumption of the PHEV powertrain have earned praise; and the highly flexible seating layout has been lauded for "truly delivering retro appeal alongside genuine practicality". Meanwhile, some quarters have raised questions regarding production capacity and delivery timelines. Overall, anchored by its core USPs of "retro styling + plug-in hybrid + eight-door design + flexible space", the Fullgood Summer has carved out a unique niche in the new-energy MPV market through its distinctive design language and differentiated product positioning.
