The 2025 model brings substantial upgrades across its exterior styling, interior appointments, and powertrains. Key competitors in the segment include rivals such as the Haval H6, Changan CS75 PLUS, and Geely Xingyue L.
Design Language
The 2025 Tiggo 8 PLUS adopts Chery's latest "Art in Motion" natural power aesthetics design philosophy. Up front, it features a prominent "blade-mesh" radiator grille with an intricate "X"-patterned chrome motif, flanked by split LED headlamps with V-shaped upper daytime running lights and lower lamp clusters linked to the grille via gloss black trim, delivering a commanding and refined road presence. In profile, the SUV exhibits a broad, squarish silhouette with clean contours, complemented by flush pop-out door handles and dual-tone semi-enclosed alloy wheels. The rear showcases full-width smoked LED tail lamps with integrated "CHERY" block lettering in the centre, accompanied by a dual-segment high-mounted stop lamp and twin exhaust tailpipes. Dimension-wise, it measures 4,730 mm (4,715 mm / 4,722 mm for selected variants) long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,740 mm (1,745 mm for selected variants) tall, riding on a 2,710 mm wheelbase. Five exterior paint finishes are on offer: Graphite Black, Pearl White, Bamboo Grey, Emerald Green, and Galaxy Blue.
Inside, the 2025 Tiggo 8 PLUS features an all-new wrap-around cockpit architecture. The most noticeable update is the departure from the previous dual-screen setup in favour of a standalone 15.6-inch 2.5K floating infotainment display. The conventional electronic gear selector has been replaced with a steering column-mounted shift stalk, freeing up centre console space for a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad and cup holders. Soft-touch materials cover 78.9% of the cabin surfaces, with leather upholstery accounting for 63.7%. Two interior colour schemes are available: Brown and Black.
Powertrain & Performance
The 2025 Tiggo 8 PLUS is offered with three powertrain options. The 1.6T Kunpeng turbocharged engine develops 145 kW (approx. 197 PS) and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT), delivering a WLTC combined fuel consumption of 7.1 L/100 km. A higher-output tune is also available, producing 147 kW (approx. 200 PS) and 310 Nm. The 2.0T engine delivers a robust 187 kW (approx. 254 PS) and 390 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT), with a WLTC rated fuel consumption of 7.7 L/100 km. The C-DM plug-in hybrid variant pairs a dedicated 1.5T hybrid engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
Chassis & Handling
In terms of running gear, the Tiggo 8 PLUS rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The rear suspension features a "three-transverse, one-longitudinal" four-link independent layout comprising two upper control arms, a dual-layer stamped steel lower control arm, and a trailing arm, mounted on a full-frame stamped steel rear subframe. The chassis tuning is distinctly comfort-biased, with pliant initial damping that effectively absorbs road surface chatter, while maintaining progressive body roll control during cornering. The rear wheel hub carriers are forged from aluminium alloy and paired with an anti-roll bar. The steering system also adopts aluminium alloy steering knuckles to reduce unsprung mass. Braking is managed by an integrated electronic brake system (IEBS), providing precise brake force distribution. The vehicle is configured with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.
Cabin & Equipment
On the tech front, the Tiggo 8 PLUS is equipped with a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating central touchscreen alongside a 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster. Powered by an automotive-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip running the Lion 5.0 OS, it supports continuous voice interaction, facial recognition, and remote vehicle telematics via smartphone. Mobile connectivity supports Apple CarPlay and Huawei HiCar. High-spec variants are equipped with a 12-speaker SONY surround sound system, including driver headrest speakers. For seating comfort, upper-tier models offer heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats (featuring 10-point massage with 5 modes and 3 intensity levels). Other convenience features include Chery's C-PURE cabin air purification system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 64-colour ambient lighting. Storage practicality is ensured with 32 compartments throughout the cabin, while folding the second- and third-row seats expands the boot volume to an expansive 1,930 litres.
Safety & Driver Assistance
For passive safety, the Tiggo 8 PLUS employs Chery's "Bedrock Body" architecture, where high-strength steel accounts for 85% of the body structure, incorporating 1,500 MPa hot-stamped steel in critical zones and aluminium alloy front crash beams providing 84% coverage. High-spec models are equipped with up to 10 airbags. For active safety, mid-to-high-spec models feature a Level 2.5 ADAS suite integrating 18 driver assist functions, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go (ACC Stop&Go), Lane Centring Control (LCC), Lane Departure Warning & Prevention, Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Door Open Warning (DOW), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). A 540-degree HD panoramic parking display with a 180-degree transparent chassis view is also included. The top-spec Champion Edition is further upgraded with the Falcon 500 driving assistance suite powered by a Qualcomm 8620 compute chip, supporting Highway Navigation on Autopilot (Highway NOA with automated obstacle avoidance, ramp entry/exit, tunnel cruising, and roadwork detour capability) alongside APA automated parking (covering 300+ parking scenarios with smartphone remote parking assist).
Market Performance & Verdict
The Tiggo 8 PLUS serves as a cornerstone model in Chery's global expansion strategy. In July 2025, the Tiggo 8 Champion Family achieved sales of 14,816 units, securing the monthly sales crown among Chinese-brand petrol mid-size SUVs and completing five consecutive monthly sales championships from March to July that year. Across motorsport and industry evaluations, the Tiggo 8 family has garnered 35 accolades, including top honours in premier events such as the Taklimakan Rally. In terms of user feedback, owners widely commend its punchy low-end torque from the 1.6T Kunpeng engine, composed ride quality, and compelling value-for-money proposition; minor feedback notes occasional low-speed jerkiness from the dual-clutch transmission in stop-and-go traffic. Overall, underpinned by flexible 5- or 7-seater configurations, versatile powertrain options, Level 2.5 ADAS capabilities, and a robust safety cell, the Chery Tiggo 8 PLUS remains a highly competitive contender in the RM100,000 to RM160,000 mid-size SUV segment.
