2026-09-29 17:20:00

The Fulwin A8 is the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) family sedan launched by Chery following the revival of its classic "Fulwin" nameplate, officially hitting the market in early 2024. The 2025 model introduces a new 1.5L PHEV variant, bringing the entry price down to RM79,900 and reinforcing its positioning as a "high-value family car".

Model Overview

Positioned as a C-segment plug-in hybrid sedan under the Chery Fulwin lineup, its key highlights include a generous 2,790 mm wheelbase, dual powertrain options (1.5L/1.5T PHEV), up to 145 km of pure electric range, and five-star global safety standards. The 2025 range comprises five variants with official prices ranging from RM79,900 to RM109,900, offering two pure electric range options of 70 km and 145 km. Key competitors include the BYD Qin PLUS DM-i and Geely Galaxy L6.

Design Language

Measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,843 mm in width, and 1,487 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm, it ranks among the upper tier in its class. The exterior showcases an expansive dot-matrix chrome grille seamlessly integrated with sharp LED headlamps, complemented by a full-width LED taillight cluster. Inside, the cabin features a standard 20.5-inch or 24.6-inch floating dual-screen setup running on the Lion 5.0 intelligent connectivity system powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2025 lineup offers two PHEV powertrain setups:

Variant Engine Combined System Output / Torque 0–100 km/h CLTC Pure Electric Range WLTC Fuel Consumption (Battery-Depleted)
1.5L Variant 75 kW / 125 N·m 225 kW / 435 N·m 8.2 seconds 70 km 4.55 L/100km
1.5T Variant 115 kW / 220 N·m 265 kW / 530 N·m 7-second bracket 145 km 4.2 L/100km

The 1.5L variant is equipped with a 9.525 kWh FinDreams lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and does not support DC fast charging; the 1.5T variant packs an 18.67 kWh battery pack, with DC fast charging taking just 19 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. A 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external discharge function comes standard across the entire range.

Chassis & Equipment

The chassis utilises a front MacPherson strut independent and rear torsion beam suspension setup, with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) standard across the range. In terms of advanced driver assistance systems, high-spec variants are equipped with the L2 Falcon Driving Assist 200 system, supporting 19 features including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA). On the safety front, high-strength steel accounts for over 80% of the body structure, while flagship models feature 10 airbags (including rear side airbags and front knee airbags), setting a high benchmark for the segment.

Market Performance

Prior to its launch, the Fulwin A8 completed a "single-tank 1,600 km+" real-world endurance challenge. The 2025 model lowered its entry price to RM79,900 by introducing the 1.5L variant, going head-to-head with the Qin PLUS DM-i (from RM79,800). In April 2025, it achieved sales of 1,395 units, ranking 13th among PHEV family sedans. Owners have widely praised its spacious cabin, low running costs, and comprehensive safety kit, though the absence of DC fast charging on the 1.5L variant has stirred some debate.
