Model Overview

The BYD Han is the flagship sedan of the BYD Dynasty series. First introduced in July 2020, it marked a defining strategic step in BYD's transformation from a value-oriented automaker into a technology-driven brand. Positioned as an executive sedan, the Han family was the first mass-produced model to feature the proprietary Blade Battery and remains a pivotal milestone in BYD's move upmarket. In October 2025, the BYD Han Long Range Edition was officially launched, introducing comprehensive upgrades across six core areas: aesthetics, comfort, smart ecosystem, intelligence, safety, and efficiency. The Han DM-i Long Range Edition debuted in 4 variants priced from RM159,800 to RM189,800 after subsidies, while the Han EV Long Range Edition arrived in 3 variants priced between RM173,800 and RM205,800 after subsidies. Building upon the Han lineage, BYD launched the next-generation flagship Han L sedan in November 2025, offering dual powertrain options of Han L DM and Han L EV with official retail prices of RM209,800 to RM279,800, and an entry price starting from RM194,800 after trade-in subsidies. Positioned above the core Han range, the Han L delivers supercar-level performance and tech at an RM200,000-class price point. To date, cumulative deliveries of the Han family have surpassed one million units, setting a major industry milestone.

Design Language

The BYD Han carries forward the signature "Dragon Face" design philosophy penned by former Audi Design Director Wolfgang Egger, seamlessly marrying Oriental luxury with modern technology. The front fascia of the Han Long Range Edition features a closed-off front grille flanked by floating Dragon Crystal LED headlamps, complemented by full-width Dragon Whisker daytime running lights with high visual recognition and integrated adaptive high-beam assist. The side profile embraces a sleek fastback silhouette and flush pop-out door handles, creating an elongated and sophisticated stance. At the rear, smoked "Chinese Knot" full-width LED taillights feature dynamic sequential turn signals, merging cultural heritage with futuristic lighting design. In terms of dimensions, the Han Long Range Edition measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a generous 2,920 mm wheelbase fitting executive sedan standards. A low drag coefficient of 0.233 Cd reduces energy consumption while accentuating its aerodynamic, sporty profile. The cabin showcases a contemporary luxury theme, extensively trimmed in premium soft-touch materials and genuine wood accents. Nappa leather seats come equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while the symmetrical, wraparound cockpit delivers a refined, flagship ambiance.

Powertrain and Performance

The Han Long Range Edition comes standard with 5th-generation DM technology on the DM-i variants and an all-new 8-in-1 intelligent electric drive system on the EV variants. The Han DM-i Long Range Edition is powered by a dedicated 1.5T plug-in hybrid engine outputting 115 kW, coupled with a front electric motor producing 200 kW and 315 Nm of torque. It delivers an all-electric range of 245 km, a low-charge fuel consumption of just 3.44 L/100 km, and a combined driving range of 1,560 km, enabling zero-petrol daily commutes. The Han EV Long Range Edition offers two CLTC driving ranges of 635 km and 705 km, driven by a 170 kW / 360 Nm electric motor with an energy consumption of only 10.6 kWh/100 km—outperforming several compact city cars—and an agile 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.9 seconds. High-spec EV trims feature a full-domain 800V fast-charging architecture that charges from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, effectively eliminating range anxiety. Meanwhile, the flagship Han L EV boasts a single-motor output of 500 kW and an all-wheel-drive dual-motor combined output of 810 kW, completing the 0-100 km/h benchmark in a blistering 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 305 km/h and an electric range of 701 km, delivering true supercar performance.

Chassis and Handling

The Han Long Range Edition comes equipped with a front MacPherson strut and rear 5-link independent suspension setup as standard, ensuring a supple ride alongside confident cornering stability. High-grade variants feature the DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System, comprising the DiSus central computing unit, electronically controlled dampers, and vertical acceleration sensors capable of processing thousands of road inputs per second to adjust damping rates in microseconds. On rough roads, DiSus-C engages a high-frequency, low-damping comfort mode to soften damper response and absorb road imperfections; when cornering hard, accelerating, or braking, it transitions to a low-frequency, high-damping setting to stiffen the chassis, curbing body roll and pitch for a balanced sporty yet refined drive. Working in tandem with an active road preview function, the system scans up to 15 metres ahead to proactively adjust suspension damping. The Han L steps up further, featuring aluminium alloy front double-wishbone and rear 5-link independent suspension paired with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) variable shock absorbers.

Cockpit and Equipment

The Han Long Range Edition is fitted with the DiLink 100 High-End Intelligent Cockpit, anchored by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch adaptive rotating floating infotainment touchscreen. The multimedia system integrates the DeepSeek AI model, supporting continuous voice interaction and full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The traditional gear lever has been replaced across the range with a steering column-mounted electronic gear selector, freeing up valuable centre console storage. On the comfort front, it adds an on-board dual-temperature mini-refrigerator (4.5L capacity, adjustable between -6°C and 50°C); an Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system paired with acoustic double-glazed glass and nearly 90 sound-deadening points throughout the vehicle ensures a whisper-quiet cabin environment; and an innovative anti-motion sickness system coordinates the chassis, powertrain, climate control, and visual displays to alleviate travel discomfort. High-spec variants boast a Hi-Fi grade bespoke Dynaudio sound system, AR-HUD head-up display, multi-colour ambient lighting, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, as well as heated rear seats.

Safety and Driver Assistance

In terms of safety credentials, the Han family achieved top Good (G) ratings across the board in C-IASI crash assessments and a full five-star rating in C-NCAP, making it the first new energy sedan to earn this dual-excellence accolade. The Han EV secured its C-NCAP five-star rating with an overall score of 91.5%, a 94.30% score in occupant protection, and full marks in active safety systems; in C-IASI testing, it earned top "G" ratings across Occupant Safety, Pedestrian Safety, and Vehicle Safety Assist, delivering outstanding performance in the challenging 25% frontal small overlap test. The vehicle body employs hot-formed high-strength steel across 43 critical structural sections totalling 97 kg, with ultra-high-tensile steel exceeding 1,300 MPa reinforcing key crash structures. For active safety, the Han Long Range Edition comes standard with the "God's Eye" advanced driver assistance system, available in God's Eye C (DiPilot 100) and God's Eye B (DiPilot 300) hardware suites, offering Highway Navigation On Autopilot (NOA), Urban NOA, and full-scenario automated parking assist. Furthermore, the Long Range Edition features the Tyre Blowout Control (TBC) high-speed stability system as standard, providing millisecond-level tri-axial (lateral, longitudinal, and vertical) stabilization during sudden blowouts at speeds up to 190 km/h, extending safety margins into extreme driving scenarios.

Market Performance and Reception

Since its inception, the BYD Han lineup has established itself as the benchmark for premium Chinese sedans. In 2025 alone, Han sedan sales reached 129,500 units, pushing cumulative lifetime sales past the one-million mark.
