Toyota Land Cruiser FJ gets retro round headlights and new off-road bumper, arriving in Japan in January 2027

Toyota has revealed two new styling options for the Land Cruiser FJ in Japan, bringing a more retro look to its compact off-roader. The additions include a set of round headlights and an Adventure Bumper Set, both inspired by the design heritage of earlier Land Cruiser models.

Sales are due to begin in Japan in early January 2027.

Round headlights

The round headlights, known in Japan as "maru-me", will be offered as a factory option. Round lamps have featured on several generations of the Land Cruiser, including earlier FJ models and the 70 Series, making them one of the most recognisable elements of the range's traditional design.

The standard FJ features Bi-Beam LED headlights with a distinctive C-shaped design. The switch to round units gives the front end a very different character. The combination of circular lamps and squared-off bodywork takes the styling closer to that of classic Land Cruiser models.

Adventure Bumper Set

Toyota is also introducing the Adventure Bumper Set, which will be available for dealer installation. The bumper features raised corners at both ends, adding more definition to the front end and giving the FJ a tougher, more purposeful appearance.

Together with the round headlights, the new bumper gives the FJ a more distinctive look, drawing further on the styling cues that have long defined the Land Cruiser family.

For existing owners

The two options will not be exclusive to new vehicle orders. Toyota has confirmed that existing Land Cruiser FJ owners will also be able to have the round headlights and Adventure Bumper Set fitted through its TOYOTA UPGRADE FACTORY programme. The retrofit service is scheduled to launch around spring 2027.

In other words, current owners will have the option to give their vehicles the same retro-inspired look without having to replace their FJ.

The Land Cruiser already has a following among off-road enthusiasts in Hong Kong, particularly with the 70 Series and 300 Series. The FJ takes a different approach, offering a more compact package with styling that harks back to the nameplate's heritage.

If the model eventually reaches the Hong Kong market, these factory accessories could give local buyers another way to personalise it.
