2026-10-02 21:00:01

Model Overview

The Yudo Yuntu is an all-electric small SUV launched by Yudo New Energy Auto Co., Ltd. Founded in 2015, Yudo Auto was among China's pioneer wave of new-energy automotive startups. In June 2022, Juneyao Group, the parent company of Juneyao Air, took over Yudo Auto for restructuring; the Yuntu marked the brand's first model post-takeover and the debut production vehicle under the "Juneyao Journey" mobility strategy.

The model was officially launched on 28 February 2023, initially offering two variants: the 320km Lingdong and 415km Yuedong, priced at RM85,800 and RM95,800 respectively. From 14 July 2023, prices across the entire Yuntu line-up were revised downwards, with the 320km Lingdong starting from RM69,800 and the 415km Yuedong adjusted to RM89,800. Positioned in the small all-electric SUV market, its key rivals include segment contenders like the Geometry E and Neta V.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the Yuntu draws inspiration from the agile silhouette of a rabbit, adopting the "Rabbit Dynamic Aesthetics" design philosophy. Up front, it features a closed-off fascia with the charging port neatly concealed beneath the front emblem cover; the triangular headlamp units on both flanks sport smoked housings reminiscent of rabbit eyes. The front bumper is flanked by smoked trim inserts, complemented by a smoked trapezoidal lower air intake at the front lip.

Along the sides, the compact and dynamic profile is sculpted with prominent character lines above the doors; gloss-black accents extend across the roof rails, window surrounds, wheel arch cladding, and side skirts. At the rear, it gets a full-width light bar taillight cluster that delivers strong visual recognition when illuminated, paired with smoked lower bumper trim and an integrated diffuser element.

In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,035 mm in length, 1,736 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a 2,480 mm wheelbase. The exterior is available in five oriental-themed paint colours: Xinghan Grey, Shuying Pink, Wangshu White, Biluo Blue, and Cuiwei Green.

Inside, the cabin is fitted with a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch floating central touchscreen. The full-width air-con vent design visually enhances the cabin's sense of width. Gear selection is operated via a steering column-mounted stalk. Three interior themes are offered: "Dream Journey in Bloom", "Cyber Fantasy", and "Dark Night Shadow", with "Dream Journey in Bloom" co-designed in collaboration with Juneyao Air’s "Dream Journey in Bloom 787" aircraft. The entire cabin is also equipped with a 256-colour rhythmic ambient lighting system that pulses to the beat of the music.

Powertrain & Performance

The entire Yuntu range is powered by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor (model "TZ180XS30HP"), sourced from Hopechart Power Co., Ltd. The motor delivers a maximum output of 70 kW (approx. 95 PS) and 165 Nm of peak torque, paired with a single-speed EV reduction gearbox. The official 0-50 km/h acceleration time is 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 130 km/h in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.

For energy storage, the Yuntu utilises lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs supplied by REPT BATTERO. The 320km variant features a 31.95 kWh battery, while the 415km variant packs a 41.7 kWh unit. These deliver CLTC-rated pure electric driving ranges of 320 km and 415 km respectively. On DC fast charging, a 30% to 80% state of charge takes around 30 minutes.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the Yuntu rides on a front MacPherson independent setup and a rear trailing-arm torsion beam semi-independent suspension. The suspension employs a separate spring-and-damper arrangement to maximise packaging efficiency. Braking duties are handled by ventilated front discs and solid rear discs, shod with 205/60 R16 tyres. With a kerb weight of around 1,230 kg, the chassis is tuned to strike a balance between load-bearing capacity and everyday ride comfort.

Cabin & Equipment

On the digital front, the Yuntu comes standard across the range with a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 64-bit high-performance ARM processor. Infotainment is anchored by a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen (supplied by BOE) alongside a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The system runs Yudo's proprietary Amber OS smart operating system, supporting intelligent voice commands, online GPS navigation, 4G connectivity, OTA software updates, and smartphone mirroring. The Unity 3D-powered voice assistant "Yuntu" enables interactive occupant engagement, alongside a built-in Thunderstone KTV in-car karaoke function.

The five-seater cabin is upholstered in synthetic leather, featuring manual seat adjustment, a front centre armrest, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Boot capacity stands at a standard 310 litres, expandable further with the rear bench folded flat. Key convenience features include keyless entry, push-start button, auto brake hold, remote start, reverse camera, selectable drive modes, and regenerative braking.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety-wise, the Yuntu is built with a high-strength cage body structure. Passive safety is covered by standard dual front airbags. Active safety equipment across the range includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Regarding driver assistance, the model is not equipped with Level 2 or higher ADAS features.

Market Performance & Review

Following its market launch, the Yuntu faced sluggish market uptake. According to automotive industry sales trackers, only 311 units were registered in the first half of 2023, after which Yudo Auto ceased publicly releasing sales figures. Analysts attribute the lacklustre sales to weak brand presence, constrained retail channels (which were initially restricted to the Shanghai region), and intense competition from segment rivals. Industry critics also noted that the Yuntu continues to utilise the older Yudo π1 platform, showing limited technological breakthroughs.

In terms of specifications, the Yuntu packs competitive equipment for its class, boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core chip, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, 256-colour ambient lighting, and a 6-speaker audio setup as standard, giving it a notable digital edge among pure electric small SUVs in the RM60,000 to RM90,000 bracket. Owner feedback has been largely positive regarding its styling, interior vibe, and the real-world practicality of the 415km variant. Overall, as Juneyao Group's debut product for Yudo, the Yuntu carved out a differentiated niche in the RM60,000 to RM100,000 pure electric small SUV segment with its "Rabbit Dynamic Aesthetics", 70 kW motor, 415 km range, and Snapdragon-powered smart cockpit; nonetheless, constrained by brand awareness deficits, limited sales network reach, and fierce market competition, its commercial performance fell well short of expectations.
