Model Overview

The Wuling Xingyun is a compact petrol-electric hybrid SUV under SAIC-GM-Wuling's Wuling badge. As the latest addition to Wuling's Silver Badge SUV lineup, the Xingyun joins the Xingchen and Xingchi to form Wuling's product offensive in the compact SUV segment. Officially launched on 20 September 2023, the model is offered in two variants—Standard and Flagship—with official retail prices of RM89,800 and RM105,800 respectively. Positioned in the entry-level family hybrid SUV market, it hinges on an aggressive value-for-money strategy of "getting a hybrid at standard petrol car prices", going up against rival RM100,000-class hybrid SUVs such as the Wuling Xingchen and Dongfeng Aeolus Haohan.
Design Language
The Wuling Xingyun adopts the brand's "Meteor Rhythm Electric Sense" design language, showcasing rounded, curvaceous body lines that set it apart from other "Xing" series stablemates. Up front, it sports a "Starry Rain" grille embedded with 171 starlight chrome elements, flanked by "Star Pupil" split headlamp clusters. The exterior is fitted with a total of 292 LED light elements, supporting multiple rhythmic light show modes. Along the sides, it features a sleek, streamlined profile refined with 12 aerodynamic drag-reducing measures. The rear is defined by a full-width LED tail lamp bar, complemented by dual exhaust garnishes (though it is mechanically a single-sided, single-exit setup). In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,610 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Four exterior colours are available: Starry White, Starry Brown, Starry Purple, and Starry Green.
Inside, the Xingyun features a two-tone light-and-dark cabin scheme, equipped with a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a 7-inch full digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch floating central touchscreen display. Soft-touch leather upholstery covers eight high-frequency touchpoints, accounting for 34.6% of the cabin's surface area. Gear selection is handled via an electronic rotary dial shifter. The seats feature an ergonomic wrap-around profile with an extra 20 mm of high-density comfort foam in the cushions and backrests, with the driver's seat benefiting from 6-way power adjustment.
Powertrain and Performance
The Wuling Xingyun is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid setup comprising a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine delivers a maximum output of 100 kW (approx. 136 PS), while the electric motor produces 130 kW (approx. 177 PS), yielding a combined system output of 130 kW and 320 Nm of peak torque. Power is transferred via an electromagnetic single-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). In typical urban driving conditions, the 0–60 km/h acceleration sprint takes just 3.2 seconds. Under the WLTC cycle, combined fuel consumption is rated as low as 5.5 L/100 km, allowing its 48-litre fuel tank to deliver a cruising range of up to 872 km on a full tank. It runs on RON 92 petrol and above, with a top speed rated at 135 km/h. The vehicle is backed by a three-year or 100,000-kilometre warranty.
Chassis and Handling
Under the skin, the Wuling Xingyun rides on a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam semi-independent setup. Steering is managed by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system, with drive sent exclusively to the front wheels (FWD). Braking duties are handled by front ventilated discs and rear solid discs, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). The vehicle rides on 215/55 R17 tyres. Kerb weight ranges between 1,565 kg and 1,600 kg, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 2,050 kg. Tuned predominantly for family ride comfort, the chassis delivers an inherently smooth and pliant on-road driving experience. However, media reviews have noted that noticeable engine noise intrudes into the cabin when the powertrain is working under heavy load.
Cabin and Equipment
On the infotainment front, the Xingyun comes standard across the board with a 10.25-inch floating central touchscreen and a 7-inch full digital instrument panel. Running on Wuling’s proprietary Ling OS smart connectivity system, it supports advanced voice commands, pre-set scene modes (Cooling, Warming, Rain & Snow, Smoking, etc.), over-the-air (OTA) updates, and smartphone remote vehicle controls. Standard creature comforts across all variants include keyless entry with push-start button, cruise control, automatic air conditioning, and heated side mirrors. The range-topping Flagship variant further gains a panoramic glass roof, music-synced dynamic headlamps, power-folding side mirrors, one-touch power windows with anti-pinch on all four doors, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The boot offers 367 litres of luggage capacity, expanding up to 1,486 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Safety and Driver Assistance
In terms of safety, the Wuling Xingyun is built on a high-tensile steel body structure. Standard active safety kit across the lineup includes ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Hill-start Assist Control (HHC), and Auto Brake Hold. The Standard variant is fitted with dual front airbags, while the Flagship variant adds front side airbags. A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and rear child safety door locks are standard across the range. For parking assistance, the Standard variant comes with a reverse camera, whereas the Flagship variant steps up to a 360-degree HD surround-view camera. Cruise control is standard across all models. In terms of advanced driver assistance, the Xingyun is not equipped with Level 2 (L2) or higher ADAS suites.
Market Performance and Reception
The Wuling Xingyun has struggled to gain commercial traction since its launch. In 2023 (its debut year), cumulative sales stood at around 2,917 units; full-year sales for 2024 hovered between 2,869 and 4,473 units; in 2025, annual sales plummeted to just 2 units; and deliveries dropped to zero in the first quarter of 2026. Monthly registrations have languished in the single digits or at zero for consecutive months since August 2024.
In terms of consumer sentiment, owners generally praise its accessible pricing and impressive fuel economy, with several automotive reviews highlighting it as a "standout value-for-money hybrid SUV". However, its drawbacks are equally pronounced: consumer complaint platforms such as 12365auto have seen multiple reports regarding unusual engine noises; the low rear-seat hip point and non-adjustable seatback angle also compromise long-distance passenger comfort; while cabin material tactile quality and suspension damping still leave room for refinement. On the whole, while the Xingyun carved out an attractive niche in the RM80,000–RM110,000 compact hybrid SUV segment with its 2.0L hybrid powertrain, 5.5 L/100 km fuel efficiency, RM89,800 base price, and Ling OS cockpit, its commercial performance fell well short of expectations due to brand perception limitations, quality feedback concerns, and intense market competition.
