Brand Overview

Silence is an electric mobility company headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, focusing on the R&D and manufacturing of light electric vehicles (LVE). The parent company is Acciona Mobility, under the infrastructure and energy giant Acciona Group. The brand was founded in 2014 by former Dakar Rally driver Carlos Sotelo, but its operating entity Scutum Logistic was established as early as 2012. Silence is positioned as one of Europe's largest specialized electric vehicle manufacturers, with "Battery as a Service" and a swappable battery ecosystem as core features, covering electric scooters, motorcycles, and micro electric vehicles.

Silence is headquartered in Barcelona, with an R&D center in Esplugues de Llobregat, and owns a production factory covering 61,000 square meters in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone, achieving full-chain autonomous production from complete vehicle assembly to battery manufacturing. At the end of 2022, the factory moved to the former site of the Nissan Barcelona factory, completing a comprehensive upgrade of production scale. Silence plans to achieve an annual production capacity of 20,000 S04 micro-cars and 50,000 motorcycles. As of early 2026, Silence has conducted sales business in 26 markets globally, with over 500 sales outlets in Europe.

Development History

Silence's development started from commercial scenarios and gradually extended to the personal consumption sector. Founder Carlos Sotelo established Scutum Logistic in 2012, initially aiming not at the personal electric vehicle market, but to develop electric scooters with efficient range and flexible battery swapping capabilities for B-end logistics industries such as courier, postal, and food delivery.

In 2014, the first product S02 officially went on the market, mainly serving courier delivery and shared mobility operators. The company built its first B-end customer network around S02, establishing a solid industry reputation in Spain. In 2018, Silence launched the three-wheeled electric scooter S03, continuing to deepen into commercial delivery scenarios.

2019 was a key milestone for Silence expanding into the C-end market. The S01 was officially launched for personal commuting consumers. In the same year, a partnership was reached with Seat, selling the S01 under the Mó brand through Seat's dealership network, completing the strategic leap from B-end to C-end. In 2021, former Jaguar Land Rover SVO department head John Edwards and Nissan Sales Director Tony Lewis brought the Silence brand into the UK market. In the same year, the brand announced entering the four-wheeled electric vehicle market, and the first micro electric vehicle S04 was unveiled.

In January 2021, Acciona Mobility announced the acquisition of the majority equity of Scutum Logistic, and Silence officially became the electric mobility brand of the Acciona Group. Benefiting from the group's capital and industrial resource support, Silence entered a fast lane of development: S04 officially went into mass production in June 2023, and participated in the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time in July of the same year for dynamic display.

2024 was a year of significant global channel expansion. Nissan and Silence reached a European distribution agreement. Starting from June 2024, S04 micro-cars and the full range of electric scooters were sold through Nissan dealerships in France, Italy, and Germany. In October 2024, Silence officially entered the UK market, exclusively represented by Nissan. In the same year, Silence also launched large-scale S04 mass production at its Barcelona Free Trade Zone factory.

Between 2025 and 2026, the brand accelerated product and market layout: launching four new S04 models (Unico, Vivo, Plus, Cargo), achieving a comprehensive upgrade of the S04 product line; the S02 launched an upgraded version at the end of 2025, with range increased to 138 kilometers, becoming the best-selling electric scooter in Europe in this class; at the end of 2025, Silence released its first motorcycle S05 Weekender and the GT-SX Grand Touring motorcycle prototype at the EICMA Milan International Motorcycle Show. Silence also deployed shared mobility services in major Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, forming synergies with Seat's Mó shared fleet.

Market Performance

Silence occupies a leading position in the European electric two-wheeled vehicle market. According to 2022 data, Silence's market share in Spanish electric motorcycles was 31.8%, and 9.8% in the European market. In 2023, the brand's market share in European electric motorcycles rose to 20%. By the end of 2025, Silence's market share in Spain further increased to 35.9%, ranking fourth in the French market. S02 was rated by multiple European industry media as "the best-selling electric scooter in the European urban mobility sector".

As of January 2021, Silence had cumulatively sold 21,000 electric vehicles, covering 25 countries globally. Since mass production began in June 2023, the S04 had sold over 800 units through Nissan Europe's 116-dealer network by June 2025, covering over 600 new customers, all of which were net new growth.

In terms of capital, before Scutum Logistic was acquired by Acciona Mobility in 2021, investors also included Caixa Capital Risc and the Spanish Industrial Technology Development Center (CDTI). The European distribution agreement reached between Silence and Nissan in 2024 covers more than 11 European markets, and Nissan's participation greatly accelerated the brand's channel expansion.

In addition, Silence's self-operated shared mobility services operate stably in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, and the synergy with the Seat Mó shared fleet formed an "manufacturer + operator" integrated model.

Core Technology

Silence's technology system is built around the modular swappable battery ecosystem, with all vehicles sharing the same standardized battery solution, achieving full powertrain generality from two-wheeled to four-wheeled product lines.

Modular Portable Battery System: developed by parent company Acciona, core product is the 5.5kWh modular portable battery pack, which can be inserted directly into any Silence vehicle. The battery is equipped with a handle and foldable wheels, can be dragged like a suitcase after being pushed out, although heavy, it can be moved without manual lifting. At the level of the charging and swapping network, Silence has deployed 180 swap stations in Spain and 20 swap stations in France, and owners can complete battery replacement within 30 seconds. The battery supports bidirectional inversion charging and discharging functions—serving as a home energy storage device at night and a vehicle power source during the day, and can also serve as an emergency power source when the home power is cut off.

Hub Motor Drive Technology is the exclusive technical highlight of the S04 micro-car, and also one of the first mass-produced models in the road vehicle field to fully enclose the motor within the wheel hub. The S04 is equipped with two hub motors, driving the rear wheels with 22kW power, 0-30mph acceleration time 7.0 seconds, top speed 52mph (approx. 83km/h). This design cancels the central motor and drive shaft, significantly lowering the center of gravity and mechanical loss, while freeing up valuable storage and seating space for the cabin.

In terms of Intelligent Connectivity and Digital Ecosystem, Silence full-series models are equipped with the My Silence mobile App, supporting keyless entry, real-time GPS positioning, remote battery monitoring, driving mode switching, and temporary user permission sharing and other connectivity functions. Vehicles are equipped with TFT color instrument clusters and reversing cameras, supporting one-key switching of driving modes (Eco/City/Sport).

In terms of Durability Verification, according to Scutum Logistic's durability test report, vehicles with over 40,000 kilometers driven and over 400 charges still maintain 95% battery capacity. Silence's main models (S01, S02) have passed EU L3e (125cc class) and L1e (50cc class) road regulation certifications, with top speeds covering the 45–100km/h range, meeting usage needs for different ages and license levels in different European regions.

Overseas Layout

Silence's globalization proceeds with the strategy of "European localization production + giant channel cooperation + policy compliance first". The brand relies on the Barcelona Free Trade Zone production base and gradually radiates to new markets starting from the EU.

Europe is Silence's core market, and the European distribution strategy has entered a rapid replication phase. In June 2024, Nissan first launched exclusive distribution of Silence products in France and Italy, expanding to Germany in September. In October 2024, Nissan officially entered the UK market, holding Silence's distribution and service rights in the UK. In 2025, markets such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Greece, Ireland, and Turkey were successively included in Nissan's dealership network. Silence's cooperation with Seat's Mó brand in Spain and operational experience as a self-operated shared mobility service provider also provided strong endorsement for brand penetration in the European local market.

South America and Asia-Pacific markets are currently still in the early development stage. Silence has an authorized dealer network in South Africa, planning to use this as the first stepping stone for the Southern Hemisphere market, but no large-scale export plan or production line localization plan has been announced. Although the brand has appeared in Asian market industry news such as Japan and Thailand, it mainly revolves around competitor benchmarking analysis, with no substantive landing deployment yet.

Future Outlook

Silence's future strategy is centered on three core directions: product matrix upgrade, swappable battery ecosystem scaling, and global map expansion.

Product Matrix Continuously Enriched. The launch of S05 Weekender at EICMA in 2025 marks the brand's formal entry into the electric motorcycle track. The GT-SX prototype is planned for mass production within the next two years, providing dual-battery configuration and a range of over 200 kilometers, targeting inter-city commuting markets. The S04 product line's four new models (Unico, Vivo, Plus, Cargo) from June 2025 onwards mark the brand's use of a modular platform to achieve full-scenario coverage from personal mobility to commercial delivery.

Swappable Network Ecosystem Accelerated Deployment. The number of swap stations in Spain and France continues to grow, subscription model users can enjoy vehicle-battery separation, reducing single vehicle price by 35%. Silence plans to use the swappable battery model as the core way to attract commercial fleet operators and delivery platforms, building a B-end profit model based on the logic of "eliminating charging waiting time, controllable battery asset management".

Global Distribution Network Continues to Expand. Leveraging Nissan's dealership system, Silence has entered more than 11 major markets in Europe and plans to continue extending to Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The company may gradually increase Barcelona factory capacity to an annual production of 20,000 S04 micro-cars and 50,000 motorcycles, providing sufficient supply for high-growth markets. Jointly with Nissan, the plan is to achieve full coverage of major European cities by 2027, and tentatively progress towards non-EU core markets such as Israel and Turkey.

Silence's long-term goal is to build a closed ecosystem through "vehicle-battery separation swappable model + full category product compatibility", becoming a systematic infrastructure provider for European light urban electric mobility, rather than a simple vehicle manufacturer. With the dual support of the Acciona Group and Nissan, this roadmap is steadily moving from concept to reality.
