Model Overview

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV marks the Maybach brand's first mass-production fully electric SUV, serving as the flagship model spearheading Maybach's electrification strategy. Built on Mercedes-Benz's dedicated EVA pure electric platform, it is positioned as an ultra-luxury full-size all-electric SUV. On 17 April 2023, the Maybach EQS SUV made its global debut at the Mercedes-Benz Brand Night before making its public debut at the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition the following day. In April 2024, during the Beijing Auto Show, the SUV was officially launched in China, debuting with two variants: the EQS 680 Lile Edition and the EQS 680 Lishang Edition, priced at RM1,595,000 and RM1,915,000 respectively. In August 2025, the 2025 Maybach EQS 680 Liyi Edition hit the market with an official recommended retail price of RM1,486,000. As of June 2026, the core variant on sale domestically remains the 2025 EQS 680 Liyi Edition.

Design Language

In terms of exterior styling, the Maybach EQS SUV carries forward the signature "one-bow" aerodynamic silhouette of the Mercedes-EQ family. Up front, it sports a black sealed panel grille adorned with vertical chrome pinstripes, crowned by the classic upright three-pointed star bonnet mascot and prominent "MAYBACH" badging for unmatched road presence. The exterior features Maybach's iconic two-tone paint scheme, cleanly separated by a fine pinstripe waistline. The D-pillars are embellished with the signature Maybach emblem. Its Digital Light headlamps are capable of projecting bespoke Maybach start-up animations. At the rear, the vehicle features full-width 3D helix taillights and a chrome-accented rear apron, alongside prominent "EQS 680" badging. Dimension-wise, it measures 5,135 mm in length, 2,034 mm in width, and 1,721 mm in height, with a substantial 3,210 mm wheelbase. The vehicle achieves an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.26 Cd. For the 2026 model year, a Patagonia Red Metallic paint option and newly designed 22-inch forged alloy wheels have been added.

Powertrain and Performance

The Maybach EQS SUV is powered by front and rear dual permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), forming an electric all-wheel-drive system. The combined maximum system output stands at 470 kW (approx. 639 PS / 630 hp) with a colossal peak torque of 950 Nm. Overseas market specifications state a combined system output of 484 kW (649 hp). The official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 4.5 seconds (4.1 seconds for the overseas variant). Top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h. Powering the system is a 111.8 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack. In selected overseas markets, the SUV is equipped with a larger 122 kWh battery pack. Under CLTC testing cycles, the pure electric driving range reaches up to 611 km. For charging, it supports 200 kW DC fast charging, juicing from 10% to 80% State of Charge (SoC) in approximately 31 to 37 minutes, while a 15-minute quick top-up adds around 220 km of range.

Chassis and Handling

Beneath the skin, the Maybach EQS SUV employs front and rear multi-link independent suspension, with an adaptive air suspension system (Airmatic) featuring damping firmness and ride height adjustments fitted as standard. The air suspension pairs with continuously adaptive damping shock absorbers, tuned specifically for Maybach to deliver maximum ride plushness and composure. Power is distributed via a dual-motor electric all-wheel-drive system. Rear-axle steering is standard equipment, offering up to 10 degrees of rear-wheel steering angle to significantly enhance the low-speed manoeuvrability of this full-size SUV measuring over 5.1 metres long. The steering system utilises an electric power-assisted setup. The chassis adopts a monocoque body construction. It features an approach angle of 18.8° and a departure angle of 19.2°.

Cabin and Features

Inside the cabin, the Maybach EQS SUV treats occupants to an opulent two-tone interior scheme. The front cockpit is dominated by the MBUX Hyperscreen, integrating a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front passenger display into a seamless glass unit. The infotainment runs on the latest MBUX intelligent human-machine interface, supporting 5G connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Upholstered in premium Nappa leather, the front seats come standard with multi-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The rear compartment adopts a first-class individual two-seater layout (four-seater version). Additionally, it features Guard 360° / Sentry Mode with remote vehicle monitoring.

Market Performance and Reception

As the Maybach brand's inaugural all-electric offering, the Maybach EQS SUV holds landmark significance in the ultra-luxury EV segment. However, its market performance has fallen well short of expectations—industry data indicates that the Maybach EQS SUV saw low uptake among traditional Maybach buyers in 2025, recording only 12 registrations nationwide all year, averaging around one unit per month. Automotive enthusiast forums similarly reflect this sluggish demand, with new delivery posts rarely seen in 2026. Industry analysts note that within Maybach’s traditional high-net-worth customer base, internal combustion engine (ICE) models such as the Maybach S-Class and Maybach GLS continue to command absolute dominance. In the ultra-luxury EV segment, the Maybach EQS SUV's main rivals include electrified propositions from elite marques like Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Despite slow showroom sales, the model has garnered praise from motoring critics for its engineering prowess—Car and Driver awarded the 2026 Maybach EQS SUV an impressive 8/10 overall rating, praising its "ultra-luxury cabin, whisper-quiet isolation from the outside world, and effortlessly potent performance". Amid the electrification tide, the Maybach EQS SUV blends the supreme luxury pedigree of the V12 era with zero-emission pure electric tech, providing a distinctive electrified solution for the ultra-luxury SUV segment.
