2026-07-01 06:40:02

LINGBOX is a micro electric vehicle brand under Jiangsu Jimai New Energy Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd., founded in 2018 and based in Xuzhou Industrial Park, Jiangsu Province. As a new energy brand under the Jinpeng Group, Lingbox is focused on China's short‑distance urban travel market, positioned as a "new young ride." Its vehicles are designed around a 100 km range and priced in the 30,000 to 60,000 RMB bracket.

Lingbox draws on Jinpeng Group's years of experience in the short‑distance EV industry chain and channel advantages. It holds dual production qualifications for both passenger and commercial vehicles and is the only new energy passenger car manufacturer in the Huaihai Economic Zone. With ultra‑high value for money as its core strength, Lingbox aims to build "an electric car a family can afford with three months of income," and has emerged as a rising star in the A00‑class pure electric vehicle market.

Development History

Founding and Qualification Acquisition (2018–2019)

Lingbox's parent company, Jiangsu Jimai New Energy Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd., was established on August 22, 2018, with registered capital of 2.1 billion RMB, funded by Jinpeng Group founder Lu Shouguang. In January 2019, the company passed the MIIT production access audit and secured dual production qualifications for new energy passenger and commercial vehicles that April—making it the only enterprise in the Huaihai Economic Zone to hold such credentials.

First Product Launch (2020–2021)

On April 20, 2020, after two years of development, Lingbox's first model—the Lingbox BOX—officially entered mass production at the Xuzhou plant. Positioned as an A00‑class micro EV, it was priced at 45,800 RMB (150 km range) and quickly filled a gap in entry‑level EVs in Xuzhou and surrounding areas. The Lingbox BOX went on sale in May 2020. In April 2021, the brand launched the more affordable five‑door, four‑seat Lingbox COCO, further expanding the lineup.

Market Expansion and Peak Period (2022)

The year 2022 marked Lingbox's sales peak, with annual volume reaching 31,639 units and monthly sales consistently breaking 3,000 units—securing a solid foothold in the A00‑class pure electric market. That same year, the three‑door, four‑seat Lingbox Uni went on sale via a "blind‑box pre‑sale" model, pulling in over 1,000 orders in its first month. In November 2022, Jimai New Energy signed a strategic partnership with Lenovo Group to build a 5G‑enabled connected vehicle ecosystem.

Market Decline and Strategic Adjustment (2023–2025)

From 2023 onward, intensifying competition in China's EV market—driven by leading brands and increasingly extreme consumer expectations for value—caused Lingbox sales to slide. Annual sales dropped to 11,140 units in 2024 and further to 7,468 units in 2025, a significant year‑on‑year decline. In response, Lingbox accelerated its push into overseas markets and the commercial B‑end segment.

Brand Portfolio

Lingbox focuses on the A00‑class micro EV market and has built a lineup of three core consumer product lines, all powered by front‑mounted single motors and lithium iron phosphate battery packs.

Lingbox BOX is the brand's first model and its absolute sales anchor, positioned as a "large four‑seat comfortable electric car." It features a five‑door, four‑seat layout, with early versions named after historical figures like Li Qingzhao, Cai Wenji, and Zhuo Wenjun. It has a wheelbase of 2,455 mm, and the boot can expand to 1,350 litres. The 2025 BOX offers the Honey Pomelo Pro and Golden Mango editions, equipped with permanent magnet synchronous motors delivering 30 kW. The Honey Pomelo Pro packs a 19.136 kWh battery with a CLTC range of 210 km, starting at 49,900 RMB. The Golden Mango Edition comes with a 31.2 kWh battery, offering up to 320 km of range and DC fast charging, starting at 61,900 RMB.

Lingbox COCO is positioned as a "national‑trend fun electric car," focusing on practicality and flexible cargo space. Its wide‑body design (3548 mm wide) and fold‑down rear seats expand boot volume to 917 litres, making it suitable for daily commutes and small‑business hauling. It comes standard with a lifetime three‑electric warranty, leather seats, and remote control via smartphone, with a guide price starting around 36,800 RMB.

Lingbox Uni is aimed at younger buyers, positioned as a "second car for happy family transport." It features a three‑door, four‑seat layout, with a wheelbase of just 1,940 mm and a minimum turning radius of 4.5 metres, optimised for tight urban streets and narrow alleys. The 2025 model starts at 29,800 RMB, capturing the essential‑mobility market with an ultra‑low price point.

Market Performance

Lingbox's sales are largely dependent on the domestic A00‑class consumer market, but intensifying competition has led to shrinking revenue year after year. The brand peaked in 2022 with annual sales of around 31,000 units, but has since declined sharply: 2024 sales fell to 11,140 units, and 2025 continued the downward slide with just 7,468 units sold—a 32% year‑on‑year drop.

The core model, Lingbox BOX, sold 5,624 units in 2025, with December managing only 245 units. The Lingbox Uni moved 1,844 units, while the COCO sold only dozens to a hundred units per month. Industry observers note that the brand's "path to success has been rocky," with monthly sales below 500 units, a thin dealer network, low brand awareness, and product fatigue all limiting growth.

That said, Lingbox has kept a steady flow of orders through exports of right‑hand drive models, helping to sustain some volume.

Core Technology

Lingbox's approach to technology in the A00‑class segment is pragmatic: improve safety and driving features while keeping costs under control. On the powertrain front, core models like the Lingbox BOX use a front‑mounted single‑motor layout with in‑house high‑efficiency permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering 30‑35 kW of power, paired with high‑energy‑density LFP battery packs. From 2025 onward, intelligent battery management has been standardised, using BMS and thermal management to boost range performance in low temperatures.

On chassis and safety, all models come with EPS electric power steering, ABS+EBD braking stability, and dual front airbags—ensuring stable handling at speed and nimble manoeuvrability in town. On the intelligence front, Lingbox has been an early mover in the A00 space, signing a strategic agreement with Lenovo Group in 2021 to explore digital and intelligent transformation in smart factories and cloud solutions. Standard features include a 10.1‑inch central screen, in‑car 4G, keyless start, and initial OTA capability—outpacing rivals like the Wuling Hongguang MINI EV in its price range on smart features.

Global Footprint

Facing mounting pressure at home, Lingbox has made "going global" its core breakthrough strategy, with early bets on right‑hand drive vehicles and emerging markets like Southeast Asia.

Entry into Hong Kong and Macau: In May 2024, Lingbox signed a cooperation agreement with Hong Kong Hengbao Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd., marking its entry into the Hong Kong market. In December 2024, Jimai New Energy completed the first batch of deliveries of the right‑hand drive Lingbox BOX‑R, officially entering the RHD vehicle segment. The model has been optimised for safety and handling to suit Hong Kong conditions, and is expected to open up exports to Macau and Portuguese‑speaking countries.

Deepening in Southeast Asia and the Middle East: In July 2024, Jimai New Energy signed an MOU with Indonesia's Thunderbird Group (GIL) to help bring the Lingbox brand to Indonesia. In Malaysia, local listed company EP Manufacturing has secured a five‑year exclusive distribution and assembly rights agreement for the Lingbox BOX (renewable for another five years). With strong demand for affordable transport in Southeast Asia's fast‑growing economies, Lingbox is exploring CKD factory opportunities in Indonesia, leveraging Jinpeng's existing supply chain. In September 2024, Lingbox and Jimai New Energy exhibited at the 136th Canton Fair, attracting trade interest from Belt and Road countries across Latin America, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Future Outlook

Lingbox's future strategy centres on an "internal and external dual circulation" approach: digitally upgrade production at home to stabilise its A00‑class base, while accelerating RHD exports to drive brand value growth.

On the product front, Lingbox plans to launch several new global models and facelifted versions in 2026 and beyond, compatible with both LHD and RHD markets, continuously refreshing its A00‑class EV lineup. The 2026 series is expected to offer over 400 km of range, extended three‑electric warranties, and Level 2 autonomous driving features, while aiming for E‑NCAP safety certification to meet stricter export requirements. The brand will lean into intelligence and personalisation as differentiators, using Jimai's flexible production lines and partnering with Changjiu Group on after‑sales service to tackle the "hard‑to‑service" problem in lower‑tier cities. Management has made clear that the goal is to become "number one in China's small EV industry"—though that will require major gains in marketing and quality control.

On channels and service, Lingbox is stepping up dealer support and pursuing an online‑offline dual‑track sales model, with direct stores and "vehicle‑battery separation" financing in core markets to lower the purchase barrier. At the same time, Lingbox is deepening its partnership with Lenovo Group on the 5G‑connected vehicle ecosystem, adding digital features to its micro cars—along with custom skins and accessories—to tap into long‑tail demand. The company will also leverage Jinpeng Group's dozens of overseas production bases and network of over 1,000 tier‑1 dealers to help the Lingbox brand take root in broader emerging markets.
