2026-10-07 18:50:00

Model Overview

The Jetour VT9 is a seven-seater mid-size SUV under Chery Group's Jetour brand, officially launched at the Malaysia Autoshow in May 2025. Serving as the brand's second offering in export markets (following the five-seater Dashing), the VT9 centres around "technology, space, and family comfort". Built with a 5+2 seating layout, it targets larger families seeking generous specifications and everyday practicality. In Malaysia, the VT9 is offered in two variants – Comfort and Prime – priced officially at RM118,800 and RM123,800 respectively (equivalent to around RM185,000 to RM193,000). As of June 2026, the model is primarily sold in right-hand-drive (RHD) overseas markets such as Malaysia and has yet to be officially introduced in China, where its domestic counterpart is the Jetour X70 PLUS (priced from around RM159,900 in China).

Design Language

The Jetour VT9 adopts a styling direction that balances commanding road presence with a futuristic touch. Up front, the most distinctive feature is the V-shaped radiator grille accented by wing-style chrome trim, delivering a bold and muscular aesthetic. The headlamp assembly features a split design, complemented by full-width LED daytime running lights that create a high-tech light signature. Along the sides, sleek and well-proportioned character lines avoid the bulky silhouette typical of conventional seven-seater SUVs. At the rear, the clean design continues with full-width tail lights and sequential turn signals that stand out at night. Dimension-wise, the SUV measures 4,724 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,720 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. Available exterior colours include Tech Grey, Aurora Green, and Khaki White, among others.

Inside, the VT9 features a minimalist dashboard layout with clean, horizontal lines. The centerpiece of the cabin is a dual 10.25-inch full-LCD display setup – housing the digital instrument cluster on the driver's side and the infotainment touchscreen in the centre, offering crisp graphics and prompt response times. The seats are upholstered in perforated leather, providing commendable support and comfort. A 62-inch panoramic glass roof spans the ceiling, bathing the cabin in natural light and enhancing the airy feel.

Powertrain Performance

The Jetour VT9 range is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 156 PS (115 kW) and a peak torque of 230 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT) in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Rather than focusing on outright performance, this powertrain is tuned for smoothness and fuel efficiency. In urban driving, the throttle response is progressive for effortless getaways, while pulling power builds up steadily as the turbo spools up from around 1,750 rpm. The six-speed DCT delivers seamless gear shifts, ensuring a relaxed, comfort-oriented driving experience.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the VT9 is underpinned by a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. This configuration is widely adopted in this segment to strike a balance between ride comfort and handling composure. A ground clearance of 210 mm provides good rough-road capability. Braking duties are handled by a 3-in-1 brake assist system (ABS+EBD+BA) , while the vehicle rides on 19-inch alloy wheels.

Cabin and Equipment

On the tech front, the VT9 comes standard across the range with dual 10.25-inch screens supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Standard amenities include an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)  with Auto Hold , powered leather seats, a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, a 360-degree camera system, and rear air-conditioning vents. The front centre console armrest also incorporates a cooling compartment function.

Configured with a 2+3+2 seven-seater layout, the second-row seats feature fore-and-aft sliding and backrest recline adjustments. The third row is best suited for children or adults on short trips. The cabin is equipped with multiple USB ports across all zones, dedicated rear air vents for both the second and third rows, and a CN95-grade cabin air filter to filter out airborne contaminants. Audio equipment differs between the two variants: the Comfort variant gets a 4-speaker setup, while the Prime variant is upgraded to 6 speakers. The Prime variant also adds an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a driver's seat memory function.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety equipment forms the main distinction between the two VT9 variants. The entry-level Comfort variant is equipped with 4 airbags, alongside core active safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) , Traction Control System (TCS) , ABS+EBD+BA , and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) . The range-topping Prime variant adds Lane Departure Warning (LDW)  and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) . Note that the entire VT9 lineup does not come equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) or Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) . A 360-degree camera system is fitted as standard across all variants to aid parking and tight manoeuvres.

Market Performance and Verdict

The Jetour VT9 enters the Malaysian seven-seater SUV market with an aggressively competitive pricing strategy, going head-to-head with rivals such as the Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. In terms of dimensions, the VT9 is close to the third-generation Nissan X-Trail (seven-seater version), with its third-row seats positioned mainly for occasional use. Jetour backs the VT9 with a 7-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty alongside a 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty, plus a 5-time complimentary maintenance service package. By the end of 2025, Jetour had accumulated over 2,000 bookings in Malaysia across the Dashing and VT9. Overall, the Jetour VT9 leverages its accessible pricing, versatile seven-seater space, generous comfort features, and extensive warranty coverage to carve out a compelling, high-value family SUV positioning in Southeast Asia.
