Model Overview

The e-JS4 is a pure electric B-segment SUV developed by JAC Motors for overseas markets, positioned for urban commuting and everyday family duties while blending practicality, running economy, and eco-friendliness. Sold domestically as the "iEVS4", it adopts the e-JS4 nameplate across international markets. In April 2019, the iEVS4 was officially launched in China with a post-subsidy price tag between RM129,500—RM159,500 across four variants. In overseas markets, the e-JS4 is priced at around 30,000 Swiss Francs in Western Europe, carries a tax-inclusive price of around 28,990,000 Chilean Pesos (approx. RM220,000) in Chile, and starts from around 16,890,000 Tenge (approx. RM270,000) in Kazakhstan.

In terms of dimensions, the e-JS4 measures 4410mm × 1800mm × 1660mm in length, width, and height respectively, riding on a 2620mm wheelbase. The five-door, five-seater electric crossover offers an unladen ground clearance of approximately 200mm and a generous 520L boot, expandable to 1050—1210L with the rear seats folded down, giving it a distinct space advantage in its class. Kerb weight ranges between 1,690—1,765kg depending on the specification.

Design Language

Built on the platform of the petrol-powered JAC Refine S4, the e-JS4 mirrors the overall silhouette of its ICE counterpart. The front fascia adopts the signature closed-off grille design common to electric vehicles, housing the charging port behind the emblem, with sharp character lines delivering a modern and youthful aesthetic. Along the sides, a two-tone body paint scheme pairs with blacked-out C-pillars to create a floating roof effect, complemented by 18-inch alloy wheels that inject a sporty stance. At the rear, full-width tail lights linked by a sleek chrome strip ensure high visibility and sharp road presence.

Inside, the e-JS4 cabin features a predominantly black colour scheme, accented by silver chrome trims and subtle blue highlights that accentuate its EV identity. Perceived cabin quality is commendable, featuring leatherette upholstery and soft-touch padding throughout, presenting a clean, practical, and functional ambience well-suited to its segment positioning.

Powertrain & Performance

Propulsion comes from a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor churning out a maximum output of 110kW (approx. 150 PS) and a peak torque of 330—340N·m. It employs a single-motor, front-wheel-drive layout with a peak motor efficiency exceeding 95%. Market specifications vary slightly: the European-spec version is rated at 142kW (approx. 193 PS) and 340N·m, whereas the Brazilian version delivers the same 110kW output.

In terms of acceleration, the 0–100km/h sprint is completed in 9.4—9.8 seconds, while the Brazilian variant clocks 7.5 seconds owing to different powertrain calibration. Top speed is rated at 150—160km/h. Power delivery is smooth and progressive, proving more than adequate for daily urban commutes; the drive prioritises plush comfort and energy efficiency over outright sportiness.

Battery options are supplied by Gotion High-tech in Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) or Ternary Lithium chemistry, available in 55kWh, 61kWh, 65.7kWh, and 66kWh capacities. On the range front, the domestic iEVS4 delivers a combined range of up to 470km under the NEDC cycle, and up to 530km at a steady 60km/h cruise. The export e-JS4 delivers a WLTP range of 410km and an NEDC range of approximately 385km. For charging, it supports 11kW AC charging, completing a 0–100% full charge in around 8 hours; DC fast charging is supported up to 60kW, taking roughly 45—60 minutes to juice the battery from 30% to 80%. The crossover is also equipped with a liquid-cooled constant-temperature battery thermal management system that maintains the pack between 10—35°C, ensuring battery longevity and consistent range in diverse climates.

Chassis & Handling

Under the skin, the e-JS4 employs a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam semi-independent suspension setup—a tried-and-tested configuration in this segment that balances ride comfort with cost efficiency. Stopping power is managed by front ventilated discs / rear solid discs, paired with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system. It rides on 225/45 R18 tyres, striking a neat balance between road grip and visual appeal. The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) offers a light steering weighting and direct response, making tight urban manoeuvres effortless. Power goes directly to the front wheels without complex torque vectoring systems, which is more than adequate for daily driving needs. Crucially, the e-JS4 chassis was fine-tuned in collaboration with the JAC-Volkswagen joint venture, enabling the vehicle to deliver global-standard NVH insulation, handling stability, ride compliance, and braking performance as major selling points.

Cabin & Features

The e-JS4 cockpit places a strong emphasis on technology and ergonomics. The driver is greeted by a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster, complemented by a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display on the centre dashboard equipped with intelligent voice control, online navigation, and music streaming, alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot. The infotainment system supports intuitive voice commands for navigation, multimedia, and air conditioning controls. Selected higher-spec variants also feature a 360° surround-view camera system.

In terms of convenience features, the vehicle comes fitted with leatherette seats, including a power-adjustable driver's seat and seat heating functions for the front occupants. Automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push-start ignition, and power windows for all four doors are standard across the range. Audio is piped through 4 to 6 speakers, with premium audio setups offered in selected export markets.

Safety & Smart Driving

Safety-wise, the e-JS4 packs a well-rounded suite of active and passive safety equipment. The body utilises a high-strength cage structure with high-tensile steel in critical load-bearing areas to effectively absorb and dissipate collision forces. Active safety is anchored by Bosch ESC (Electronic Stability Control), integrating ABS, EBD, Traction Control (TCS), Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA), Hill-Start Assist Control (HHC), and Auto Brake Hold. Furthermore, an EPB, EPS, and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) come standard across all variants. The flagship trim is equipped with six airbags (dual front, front side, and full-length curtain airbags). The 360° surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors provide added confidence during parking and tight manoeuvres. Overseas variants are further enhanced with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as AEBS (Autonomous Emergency Braking System) and LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System). Selected variants also offer Lane Change Assist and Lane Departure Warning features. Outdoor practicality is elevated by a high-power Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse discharging function, allowing the car to power external electrical appliances with ease.

Market Performance & Reviews

The e-JS4 (iEVS4) has enjoyed positive sales momentum in international markets. In January 2023, JAC Group flagged off a 500-unit export batch of the e-JS4 to Norway, marking JAC Motors' first major overseas export order of the year and establishing its electric passenger vehicle footprint in the traditional automotive hubs of Northern and Western Europe. The e-JS4 is now officially on sale in Norway and across seven Nordic nations, backed by dealer agreements with over 50 European distribution outlets. In Latin America, fleet deliveries were made to the São Paulo State Military Police in Brazil, alongside active market presence in Chile and Colombia. By 2025, JAC Motors had built a global sales network spanning more than 130 countries and regions, with cumulative export volume exceeding 850,000 units. Domestically, the iEVS4 earned a solid reputation in 2019 after successfully completing the 10,000km "10,000-Mile Real-World Road Test Season 2" across four routes in extreme summer and winter climates. In overseas automotive reviews, the e-JS4 has been lauded as a high-value entry-level electric SUV, with its 410km WLTP combined range, commodious 520L boot, and competitive pricing helping it carve out a secure foothold in the budget EV segment. Former Swiss automotive technician Peter Haas remarked after an extensive test drive that the e-JS4 "punches well above its price bracket with first-rate value for money". In independent long-distance range testing, the EV covered 466.5 kilometres on a single charge with 25km of remaining range indicated on the cluster, proving its dependable real-world endurance. On the flip side, some owner reviews have noted that the infotainment system can be slow to boot up, occasional DC fast-charging handshakes occur at select third-party charging stations, and minor fit-and-finish details (such as door handle finishes) leave room for improvement.

All in all, serving as a flagship spearhead of JAC Motors' global new energy strategy, the e-JS4 has secured a firm footing across emerging and developed markets thanks to its dependable range, generous cabin space, and compelling value proposition. Crucially, it stands not only as a showcase of JAC's EV engineering capabilities and international ambitions, but also as a convincing demonstration to European and global buyers of the sheer cost-to-performance competitiveness of Chinese pure electric SUVs.
