Model Overview

The JAC T9 EV is the all-electric iteration of JAC Group's flagship T9 pick-up truck, known domestically in China as the JAC Hunter EV. Built on the ladder-frame architecture of the ICE-powered Hunter, it is positioned as China's first body-on-frame all-electric 4WD pick-up, highlighting "pure-electric rugged off-roading" and "multi-purpose commercial utility" as core selling points. It primarily caters to commercial fleet operators in sectors such as telecommunications, municipal utilities, ports, and airports, alongside individual users including agricultural drone operators and local business owners. In August 2025, the Hunter EV made its official global debut at the Chengdu International Auto Show, with domestic indicative pricing ranging from RM199,800 to RM319,800.

Design Language

In terms of exterior styling, the T9 EV retains the bold, muscular design language of the ICE Hunter while incorporating dedicated EV styling cues. The front fascia features a Galaxy Shield closed-off electric grille accented by an EV-exclusive blue JAC emblem, flanked by "Hunter's Eye" sequential LED turn signals for an elevated tech-forward presence. Its profile is defined by rugged body lines and 18-inch (265/60 R18) two-tone aero-optimised alloy wheels, slashing the drag coefficient by 8% compared to the ICE variant. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 5,330 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height, riding on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. The rear cargo bed measures 1,520 mm long, 1,590 mm wide, and 470 mm deep. A dedicated 90-litre front boot (frunk) is also added to enhance overall cargo versatility. Inside, the cabin adopts an American-style rugged aesthetic, appointed with a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel with diamond stitching and an upgraded rotary electronic gear selector.

Powertrain & Performance

The T9 EV is driven by a front and rear dual-motor AWD system delivering a combined output of 220 kW (approx. 300 PS / 295 hp) and a peak torque of 516 Nm, paired with a single-speed EV transmission. It completes the 0-100 km/h century sprint in 8.4 seconds (with some media clocking it within the 8-second flat bracket), on to a regulated top speed of 140 km/h. Energy is stored in an 88 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL, delivering a CLTC-rated electric driving range of 505 km. For charging, the pick-up accepts 88 kW DC fast charging, taking approximately 35 minutes to juice from 30% to 80% SoC; an 11 kW AC charger replenishes the battery from 15% to 100% in roughly 6 hours and 50 minutes.

Chassis & Handling

The T9 EV is engineered on a robust ladder-frame chassis (body-on-frame construction) underpinned by JAC's dedicated mid-to-large intelligent passenger pick-up platform, featuring a 2-longitudinal and 9-crossmember structure for superior torsional rigidity and rough-road capability. Suspension hardware comprises an independent front double-wishbone setup and a rear leaf-spring rigid axle. Driven by an intelligent dual-motor 4WD system, the pick-up delivers formidable obstacle-clearing and recovery performance. It also comes standard with 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply capability (expandable to 15 kW) and offers four selectable drive modes: Eco, Sport, Standard, and Snow.

Cabin & Equipment

The T9 EV is configured as a five-seater dual-cab. The seats are ergonomically sculpted, with both driver and front passenger seats featuring 8-way power adjustment and heating functions; the rear quarters offer a generous 980 mm of legroom with a 26-degree backrest recline angle to maximise long-distance passenger comfort.

In terms of convenience and infotainment equipment, the cabin is appointed with a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, offering support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, intelligent voice control, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Standard fitment across the range includes 64-colour ambient lighting, a wireless smartphone charging pad, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the active safety front, the T9 EV is equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), featuring Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. Notably, the pick-up has achieved a full five-star ANCAP safety rating in Australia, meeting top-tier international safety standards.

Passive safety is well-catered for with seven airbags fitted as standard. For battery protection, the pack achieves an IP68 dust and water ingress rating and operates reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to 65°C, ensuring dependable resilience against intense heat, humidity, and high salinity. The core EV powertrain components are backed by an 8-year or 400,000 km warranty.

Market Presence & Reception

The JAC T9 EV spearheads JAC Group's global expansion strategy, having debuted in regional markets including Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In Singapore, the T9 EV has been delivered to commercial fleet operators including an airline company after securing initial tender contracts; in Indonesia, it was officially launched as one of JAC's pioneer nameplates, catering primarily to commercial applications such as logistics and mining transport. In Malaysia, the T9 EV (locally badged as the T9 Grand-BEV) is priced at roughly RM199,888 (equivalent to around RM305,000). In export markets, it stands as JAC's first dual-motor 4x4 electric pick-up, positioned to outclass conventional ICE pick-ups in both safety standards and performance.

Note: Specific data cited for the Malaysian market (such as the 340 km WLTP range) differs from China's domestic CLTC figures (505 km) due to distinct homologation testing cycles. Exact specifications may vary depending on local market trims, and official published figures should be taken as definitive.
