The HAVAL Xiaolong is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) C-segment SUV launched on 15 May 2023 by Great Wall Motor's HAVAL brand. Positioned as an "all-round electric-vibe, fun and trendy SUV", it is targeted at young urban families. The model is offered in 3 variants, with official recommended retail prices ranging from RM139,800 to RM156,800. Serving as a crucial pillar in HAVAL's new energy flagship product strategy, the Xiaolong, alongside the higher-positioned Xiaolong MAX, establishes the brand's dual-model offensive in the PHEV SUV segment.

The HAVAL Xiaolong embodies what the brand terms the "Ultimate Futuristic Aesthetics" design philosophy. Up front, it features an almost fully enclosed aerodynamic wing-style front grille seamlessly integrated with the space-time blade LED headlamp clusters, delivering a sleek and high-tech visual identity. A lower air intake is retained on the front bumper to cater to the internal combustion engine's cooling requirements.
In profile, sharp dual character lines combine with lightning turbine-styled alloy wheels and a floating roof design to project an athletic, dynamic stance. At the rear, split tail lamp clusters lend a composed and premium look. In terms of dimensions, the HAVAL Xiaolong measures 4,600 mm in length, 1,877 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,710 mm, placing it squarely in the C-segment SUV category.
Inside, the cabin takes inspiration from a starry sky wrap-around concept. It comes equipped with a twin-screen setup comprising a 7-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, complemented by starry laser dynamic ambient lighting. The minimalist dashboard layout features an integrated high-tech floating centre console that ditches the conventional gear selector in favour of wireless charging pads, storage cubbies, and other amenities. The interior is available in two colourways: solid black and two-tone black/beige.
The HAVAL Xiaolong is built on GWM's L.E.M.O.N. Hybrid DHT-PHEV architecture. The powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a front-mounted single electric motor. The 1.5-litre engine puts out 74 kW (approx. 101 PS) and 132 Nm of torque, while the electric motor produces 115 kW. Drive is sent through a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
In terms of pure electric range, the HAVAL Xiaolong offers two NEDC-rated variants: 52 km and 110 km. The 52 km variant does not support DC fast charging, whereas the 110 km variant comes equipped with 33 kW DC fast charging alongside 6.6 kW AC charging. Under WLTC testing, combined fuel consumption dips as low as 1.39 litres/100 km, with battery-depleted fuel consumption rated at 5.3 litres/100 km and a total combined range exceeding 1,000 km on a full tank and full charge.
The vehicle also features 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse power supply, catering to outdoor camping and electrical appliance needs. Driving dynamics reflect typical EV control logic, allowing proximity keyless entry with immediate vehicle power-up upon opening the door, start-up by depressing the brake pedal, and automatic engagement of Park (P) once stationary.
The HAVAL Xiaolong rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. Configured strictly in front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) guise, no all-wheel-drive (AWD) option is offered. Through optimised steering gear ratios and reinforced lateral body rigidity, the chassis has been specifically tuned for steering precision and cornering stability. According to official data, the dampers underwent a rigorous three-stage tuning process spanning over 100 days, striking a fine balance between highway ride comfort and rapid body roll control over undulating road surfaces.
On the tech front, the HAVAL Xiaolong features the Coffee Smart Cockpit system anchored by the 7+12.3-inch twin screens. The infotainment system supports intelligent voice command for navigation, multimedia, telephony, climate control, and power windows, capable of continuous conversation after a single wake-up prompt, alongside custom voice packs such as Honor of Kings. The system also bundles integrated in-car apps such as WeChat, navigation, and iQuting, with support for Over-The-Air (FOTA) firmware updates.
For comfort and convenience, the HAVAL Xiaolong offers 29 interior storage compartments. Boot capacity stands at 420 litres in standard configuration and expands up to 1,175 litres with the rear seats folded down. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat (with optional ventilation/heating), a powered tailgate with height memory function, and a wireless smartphone charger. Additionally, Bluetooth digital key and telematics support allow users to manage pre-cooling, scheduled charging, and vehicle status checks via a smartphone app.
The HAVAL Xiaolong comes standard with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) across the range. The safety suite includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist, Door Opening Warning, Rear Collision Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. It is also fitted with a 360-degree surround-view camera system, while automated parking is available as an option for parallel and perpendicular bays, with selected variants featuring remote parking assist.
In terms of passive safety, the vehicle features a high-tensile body structure and comes standard with dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags.
The HAVAL Xiaolong hit the market alongside the Xiaolong MAX in May 2023. Just 45 days post-launch, the Xiaolong series (combining Xiaolong and Xiaolong MAX) celebrated its 10,000th production unit rolling off the line. However, looking at individual model performance, the HAVAL Xiaolong's standalone sales figures have remained relatively subdued, with industry data indicating that its 2024 market uptake fell short of expectations.
Customer feedback reveals widespread praise for the HAVAL Xiaolong's generous equipment levels—particularly the standard Level 2 ADAS and 360-degree camera suite, which lend it a strong value proposition in its price segment. Conversely, reviewers have noted hard plastic textures across certain cabin trims, while the omission of DC fast charging on the base 52 km variant remains a notable drawback in everyday charging convenience.
In the brand's new energy hierarchy, the HAVAL Xiaolong serves as an entry-level offering positioned below the HAVAL H6 PHEV. Rivalling mainstream compact PHEV SUVs such as the BYD Song Pro DM-i, it faces stiff competition in the competitive RM130,000 to RM160,000 price bracket. As of end-2025, the HAVAL Xiaolong has yet to receive a facelift, with the brand's strategic focus shifting heavily towards the second-generation Hi4-equipped Xiaolong MAX series.
