FARNOVA is an emerging new energy vehicle brand in China, established by Farno Group Holdings Limited (08153.HK). The brand belongs to Shenzhen FARNOVA Vehicle Holdings Co., Ltd. (later successively renamed to entities such as Farno Automobile (Changde) Manufacturing Co., Ltd.). In actual operations, the Hong Kong‑listed Farno Group acts as the holding platform to integrate its new energy vehicle business. The brand headquarters was initially in Shenzhen, with Hunan Changde later designated as the main production and manufacturing base, where a new energy vehicle industry chain production base was planned and constructed in the Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone. The brand was founded in 2020, and the founder and chairman of Farno Group is Guo Genlin, the core figure and largest shareholder behind the brand.
The English name FARNOVA is derived from the founding team's expression of "innovation" (Nova) and "future" (Future). Initially positioned as a manufacturer of luxury new energy vehicles, the brand focuses on the research and manufacturing of high‑end passenger cars, new energy commercial vehicles, and special vehicles. Product planning covers all‑carbon fibre super pure electric sports cars, pure electric luxury coupes, pure electric double‑decker buses, new energy pickups, new energy heavy trucks, and high‑end custom models, aiming to build unique brand competitiveness through lightweight materials, industry chain integration, and overseas market development.
Brand founder Guo Genlin graduated from the Department of Computer Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology. He worked in the electronics industry early on, supplying companies such as Lenovo, Founder, and Giant. In 2009, Guo Genlin established Shenzhen Farno Yacht Company, which became famous in the industry for building large power sailing yachts and high‑performance yachts, earning him the nickname "Godfather of Chinese Sailing." Among the more than ten companies held by Guo Genlin, over half are related to the sailing yacht business. Around 2015, Guo Genlin began to lay out a new energy vehicle direction, subsequently acquiring the heavy truck brand Perlini and related patent assets, and carrying out lightweight renovation work on new energy heavy trucks. At the end of 2019, through the Farno Group he controlled, he acquired Shenzhen FARNOVA Vehicle Holdings Co., Ltd. by issuing convertible bonds, formally entering the new energy vehicle manufacturing field.
Industrial Layout and Manufacturing Base Construction (2020) . In July 2020, Farno Group Holdings Limited (then called Kedi Agriculture Holdings Limited) signed a cooperation contract with Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hunan, planning to invest about 7.5 billion RMB to build a new energy vehicle industry chain production base in Changde, covering new energy buses, pickup, heavy truck production lines, and high-efficiency battery integrated management system production lines. According to official planning, the Changde base is expected to reach an output value of 30 billion RMB and pay more than 1 billion RMB in annual taxes. In August of the same year, Shenzhen FARNOVA Vehicle Holdings Co., Ltd. was officially established (registered on March 28, 2018, with the legal person change crossing with the brand creation time), serving as the operating entity for FARNOVA Vehicle business segments.
Brand Launch and New Model Debut (September 2020) . On August 21, 2020, Farno Automobile was officially registered, with a registered capital of 1 billion RMB. On September 23, Farno Group held a new product launch conference at Shenzhen Seven Star Bay Yacht Club, releasing two lightweight new energy vehicles - Farno All-Carbon Fiber Super Pure Electric Sports Car (EV-SEDAN) and Farno All-Aluminum Body Pure Electric Bus. Both new models were announced as rolled off the assembly line and put into mass production. EV-SEDAN is a four-seater two-door Coupe style pure electric luxury grand tourer, developed in cooperation with Swiss ABB Group, using Northvolt battery technology. Public data mentioned that this car can achieve 800km range with 15 minutes charging and meet Level 3 autonomous driving requirements. The electric bus body is made of all-carbon fiber composite materials with an aluminum alloy frame, core battery provided by BYD, with a total vehicle range of 400km and a maximum speed of 80km/h.
As an important part of the brand's early events, Farno also had a strategic cooperation with Qiantu Automobile. In September 2020, Changde Farno and Qiantu agreed to build a production base in Changde. Qiantu provided professional technology and qualification assets, while Farno Group was responsible for funding and providing international sales channels. Farno Group also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Kundulun District People's Government of Baotou City, planning to build a new energy vehicle research and manufacturing base in Baotou.
Othello Sports Car Debut and Market Promotion Period (2021—2022) . In September 2021, Farno Automobile launched the pure electric super sports car FARNOVA Othello (English name Othello), officially debuting at the "Night of Cinema" at the Beijing Film Festival. Othello is the technical flagship model of the Farno brand, built based on the brand's independently developed three-electric system, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 1.8 seconds, top speed 420km/h, total output power 1,835 horsepower, peak torque 12,000 N·m, battery capacity 75kWh, range 600km (different sources state 600km or 800km), limited to 200 units globally, estimated price 1.86 million RMB. In the same year, Farno reached a framework agreement with hybrid technology enterprise CALT, planning to establish a joint venture focused on energy saving and new energy vehicle R&D.
Capital Operation and Qualification Acquisition (2021) . In January 2021, Farno Group (08153.HK) subsidiary Farno Automobile (Changde) Manufacturing Co., Ltd. signed a letter of intent with Changchun Huaao Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to acquire 58.39% equity of Guangxi Huaao Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a new energy vehicle manufacturer, for about 390 million RMB. Guangxi Huaao holds all pure electric vehicle production qualification licenses issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission. Farno Group also announced around April 2021 that it would jointly build a new energy vehicle research and manufacturing base with the Kundulun District People's Government of Baotou City, planning to start construction at the end of June 2021 and complete production in 2022.
Sales Realization and Progress Slowdown (2021–Present) . In 2020, 12 pure electric sports cars under the Farno Group were sold and delivered to customers, with an additional 20 orders subsequently placed. The company expected 2020 performance to turn from loss to profit and record net surplus. FARNOVA also signed a sales agency agreement with Tianjin Fazhijie, the latter promising to complete sales of no less than 5,000 FARNOVA vehicles annually. Electric buses also received international orders of 2,000 units in London, Paris, etc., with a plan to complete delivery in 2021. However, as of 2026, the mass production delivery progress and public information of FARNOVA are extremely limited. Apart from a few early delivery records and offline bus orders, the brand has not formed an actual market presence in passenger car delivery scale.
The FARNOVA brand covers multiple categories of new energy vehicle models during the planning stage, but information about actual mass production is relatively vague. The Othello sports car and electric bus are the core exposed models in the product line.
Othello. The flagship technical product of the Farno brand, it also became the representative model for the outside world to recognize the FARNOVA brand. Othello is a two-seater pure electric super sports car. Body dimensions 4670×2082×1135mm, wheelbase 2670mm, curb weight 1350kg. Exterior design was designed by an Italian design team, adopting integrated carbon fiber body, butterfly doors, tail equipped with retractable large rear spoiler and brake plate and other racing design. Interior is minimalist style, equipped with octagonal racing steering wheel, RECARO racing bucket seats, instrument panel primarily displays via HUD head-up display. Adopt front and rear dual motor four-wheel drive system, total output power 1350kW (1,835 horsepower), wheel-end torque 12,000 N·m, 0-100km/h acceleration 1.8 seconds, maximum speed 420km/h, power-to-weight ratio reaches 1:1. Power battery is ternary lithium system, capacity 75kWh, range 600km (maximum stated as 800km under different test conditions). This car is limited to 200 units annually, priced at 1.86 million RMB.
EV-SEDAN (Pure Electric Luxury Grand Tourer). One of the first two mass-produced models launched by the brand in early 2020, positioned as a four-seater two-door pure electric luxury grand tourer, developed in cooperation with Swiss ABB Group. The body uses carbon fiber composite materials extensively, adopting one-shot injection molding integrated technology. The car targets a design specification of 800km range with 15 minutes charging and possesses Level 3 autonomous driving capability.
All-Carbon Fiber Pure Electric Bus. One of the two first batch of mass-produced models released by the brand at the same time, applicable to urban public transport, tourism, and business passenger transport scenarios. The body is made of all-carbon fiber composite materials and matched with an alloy frame, the core battery supplier is BYD, the range can reach 400 km. This model had planned to deliver an order of 2,000 units to cities such as London and Paris. The electric bus adopted a new vehicle control management system and rechargeable energy system, the roof is equipped with solar panels, and the circulation system can be automatically started to cool down when the vehicle interior temperature exceeds 45°C.
Planned Models: Pickup, New Energy Heavy Truck. The Farno Group's Changde base planning includes pickup trucks, new energy heavy trucks, and a lightweight heavy truck modification product line based on the Perlini brand. The heavy truck product is derived from lightweight modification on the heavy truck car brand Perlini previously acquired by Guo Genlin, significantly reducing costs.
FARNOVA's technical system is overall developed around three aspects: lightweight body materials, self-developed three-electric system, and international technology cooperation. The brand focuses on the large-scale application and integrated molding of carbon fiber composite structures in new energy vehicle design. The brand claims that this process can achieve a unity of high strength, high safety, lightweight, and fast production cycle.
Three-Electric System and Coreless Permanent Magnet Nano Motor. The Othello sports car is equipped with the three-electric system independently developed by the brand as claimed externally. The motor is a coreless permanent magnet motor, adopting axial magnetic field design, with relatively small size and high power density. This dual-motor four-wheel drive system achieves a total output power of 1350kW (1,835 horsepower) and a peak torque of 12,000 N·m, ranking among the top in the book parameters of mass-produced electric supercars. FARNOVA vehicles also adopt a new vehicle control management system, unifying energy management for the electric drive system, rechargeable energy system, and charging system. In terms of charging system, fast charging mode can be realized, and EV-SEDAN once designed a target of 800km range with 15 minutes charging.
Lightweight Carbon Fiber Composite Materials. Farno Automobile is one of the car enterprises in China to announce large-scale application of carbon fiber composite materials for the body early on. Both Othello sports car and EV-SEDAN use a large amount of carbon fiber integrated molded body structure. The electric bus adopts aviation aluminum for lightweight design, claiming to save 40% energy compared to traditional body materials.
International Technology Cooperation. FARNOVA has formed cooperation relationships with Swiss ABB Group, Swedish Northvolt Battery Technology Company, and Kuka Robotics, introducing over 40 top international new energy patent technologies. Othello batteries come from Northvolt ternary lithium scheme, EV-SEDAN is developed and matched with Level 3 autonomous driving requirements in cooperation with ABB. The former Lamborghini chief designer participated in the exterior design of the electric bus.
Farno Automobile's actual market volume in the passenger car segment is extremely limited. Since the brand was listed, substantial sales and delivery records are mainly about completing 12 Farno super pure electric sports cars by the end of 2020. In the earnings forecast, Farno Group Board once expected 2020 annual performance to turn from loss to profit and record net surplus, but the correspondence relationship between this forecast and Farno Automobile's actual passenger car sales is not clear. The target of annual sales of 5,000 FARNOVA vehicles promised by Fazhijie in the sales agency agreement and the sales authorization covering the full series by China Coal cannot be verified and realized from public terminal sales data.
Regarding electric buses, FARNOVA once announced obtaining 2,000 units international orders from the European market including London and Paris. The brand is also continuously promoted in market demand in Hainan, Southeast Asia, etc. It is speculated that overseas delivery and intended orders on bus products are one of the brand's phased business focuses.
Farno Automobile took the overseas market as a key direction from the early stage of brand creation. The brand is positioned as a manufacturer compliant with both Chinese and European dual standards. Electric buses once obtained a total of 2,000 orders in London and Paris. Farno Group stated that it will promote new energy vehicles and technologies in multiple overseas regions, and plans to establish a brand experience center in Europe and build a manufacturing factory in Mexico. There are already bus orders in cities such as Southeast Asia and the United States. Farno also cooperated with CALT to establish a joint venture, planning to take South America and Southeast Asia as major export markets.
Although FARNOVA has shown a relatively high-profile attitude since its establishment in product definition, technology packaging, and capacity planning, its supercar Othello has failed to achieve scaled mass production delivery for a long time. The production qualification obtained by Farno Automobile through the acquisition of Guangxi Huaao has solved compliance issues, but actual delivery at the user end basically stays at the level of early 20 units. The niche route targeting supercars also makes it difficult to obtain widespread channel feedback.
From the low-key state of FARNOVA around the Zhuhai Airshow and its lack of news in the later period, it can be seen that the brand's actual promotion motivation is relatively insufficient. In view of the fact that the new energy vehicle industry has entered a highly concentrated competition stage, and capital chain strength and market entry thresholds are getting higher and higher, relying solely on ultra-high-end limited models is difficult to support a brand's long-term survival capability. How Farno Automobile subsequently achieves asset revitalization by leveraging its commercial vehicle business, contract manufacturing, and actual orders in the pickup and bus fields has become the core variable affecting its future direction.
