Model Overview

The Dongfeng Vigo is an all-electric B-segment compact SUV under Dongfeng Motor Corporation, serving as a core model in the brand's "Globalization Leap" strategy. The EV made its global debut in November 2025 at the 2026 Global Partner Conference in Xiamen, concurrently marking the shipment of its first 10,000 export units. As of 2026, the Vigo has been launched or unveiled across multiple overseas markets, including New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Pakistan, and Rwanda. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,306 mm long, 1,868 mm wide, and 1,654 (or 1,645) mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,715 mm. In its domestic market in China, where it is sold as the Dongfeng Nammi 06, the official retail price ranges from RM89,900 to RM119,900; in Malaysia, introductory promotional pricing starts from RM100,000 (approximately RM155,000 equivalent); while in New Zealand, the limited-time introductory price starts at NZ$37,990.

Design Language

The Dongfeng Vigo features a boxy silhouette tailored for cabin practicality and a youthful aesthetic. Up front, it sports an enclosed grille panel flanked by L-shaped headlamp clusters integrated with a full-width visual signature. The side profile exhibits clean, functional lines paired with semi-flush door handles, while black wheel arch claddings and side skirts deliver a rugged crossover stance. At the rear, it features a full-width LED taillight bar with signature L-shaped graphics on both ends. The standout design highlight is its BMW X5-style split-opening clamshell tailgate, topped with a roof spoiler and high-mount stop lamp, and complemented by a silver skid plate below. Exterior colour options include Wave White, Dawn Orange, Wild Green, Oil Yellow, and Star Sand Silver. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist layout housing an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.8-inch (or 15.6-inch) floating touchscreen infotainment display, with physical buttons eliminated from the centre console. A two-spoke multifunction steering wheel completes the cockpit.

Powertrain & Performance

The Dongfeng Vigo is powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor in a front-wheel-drive layout. Depending on the market specification, maximum motor output ranges between 120 kW and 135 kW (approx. 161–184 hp/PS), with a peak torque of 230–290 Nm. The 0–100 km/h century sprint takes around 9.5 seconds, while 0–50 km/h is achieved in 3.6 seconds, on to a top speed of 150 km/h. Battery-wise, the entire range comes equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, available in 44.94 kWh and 51.87 kWh capacities. These provide a CLTC-rated range of 401 km and 471 km respectively, while WLTP range figures are estimated at 340–380 km. For charging, the 51.87 kWh variant supports DC fast charging up to 167 kW, replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes; AC slow charging is rated at 6.6 kW, requiring 8.3 to 9 hours for a full charge. The vehicle also features a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) power supply function of up to 3.3 kW to power external electrical appliances.

Chassis & Handling

The Dongfeng Vigo is built on Dongfeng Motor’s Quantum Architecture Platform 3 and utilizes the Mach Power 10-in-1 Electric Drive System. Suspension duties are handled by a front MacPherson strut independent setup paired with a rear torsion beam non-independent setup. Drive is configured as front-wheel drive (FWD). While official off-road geometry metrics like ground clearance have not been disclosed, its urban crossover setup offers adequate clearance for everyday road conditions and light unpaved surfaces. Steering is handled by an electric power steering (EPS) system, and the vehicle rides on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.

Cabin & Equipment

The interior user interface centres around the 12.8-inch (15.6-inch on high-spec variants) floating touchscreen infotainment unit and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. Comfort and convenience features include powered leather seats, front seat ventilation, driver's seat memory function, panoramic sunroof, 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, and ambient cabin lighting. Air-conditioning is managed by a single-zone automatic climate control system. Boot capacity is rated at 500 litres. Notably, the steering column only supports tilt adjustment and lacks telescopic reach adjustment.

Safety & Advanced Driver Assistance

In terms of safety equipment, the Dongfeng Vigo comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety and driver assistance features. Core ADAS functions include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) , Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) , Lane Departure Warning (LDW) , Road Sign Recognition Assist (RTA) , and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). These are complemented by a 360-degree surround-view camera and front and rear parking sensors, achieving Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability. Passive safety features include dual front airbags and front side airbags. For peace of mind, the traction battery is backed by an 8-year unlimited-mileage warranty.

Market Performance & Verdict

Since its global debut in late 2025, the Dongfeng Vigo has gained encouraging market momentum internationally. At its Costa Rica launch event alone, the EV secured 270 bookings; while in Rwanda, 19 units were transacted on the launch day itself. The initial shipment of 10,000 units has already been dispatched to overseas markets. Positioned as an entry-level pure electric SUV, the Dongfeng Vigo goes up directly against the BYD Atto 2 (Yuan UP) . Its main selling points include its split clamshell tailgate, generous rear cabin room (with a wheelbase 95 mm longer than the Atto 2), 167 kW ultra-fast DC charging capability, and competitive pricing strategy. On the other hand, its drawbacks include a tilt-only steering adjustment, single-zone climate control, and modest performance outputs. As an integral model in Dongfeng Motor’s global push, the Vigo leverages its practical boxy design, rich kit list, and accessible price point to establish a solid foothold in the international entry-level EV SUV segment.
